This is Gene Mumford, but it is the second group of Larks he sang lead for. the original Larks broke up in late '52. Gene weant back to Gospel for a year, then reformed the Larks with 4 totally different background singers. Signed (again) with Apollo, but they wanted the group to have more of a "pop" sound, and this is the group you see and hear in this video.
This version has Gene Mumford singing on it so it trumps them all. He's my favorite 50's vocalist. Thanks for letting me see him in action for the first time, a real treat! (Fats Domino could sing the telephone book and it would be enjoyable.)
love this video and song. I grew up in the bronx during the 50s and loved the groups that predated the doo wops. My first memory of the Larks was My Reverie. thanks for the post
This group recorded the best version I have ever heard of this tune. They were so talented. The finest vocal group ever to record, IMO. The Group Harmony Alley on WFDU-FM. 7pm - 10pm EASTERN, on your radio at 89.1/FM in the NY/NJ metro area and stream at wfdu.fm The weekly constitution for the roots of the R&B vocal group experience!
They were pretty good alright! They packed a lot of soul in everything they did and had great musicianship. They weren't foolin around, they were REALLY singing!
Mr. Eugene I Love You! One of the best tenor singer of all times!!!

Thanks for giving me a song that my father would sing to me as a child. Still makes me smile every time I hear it!!

Oh my good God!
Don Julian was lead singer in The Meadowlarks & a different group called The Larks, not the above New York based outfit...
ABSOLUTLY "CLASS"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Early do wop, transforming Mills Brothers to Rock and Roll.
Cant believe 5 people down-voted this one. I guess there's no accounting for taste....
DON JULIAN THE LEAD SINGER DIED IN 1998 R.I.P.
This has nothing on the Eddie Cantor or Fats Domino versions, especially not in how they don't even sing the right lyrics...
Eddie cantor is effing Wack !! These dudes are on Fire 🔥
That's Not True !
