Do you have any car safety recommendations? Want to see a dedicated "Readiness and Writing Curriculum Video" or a video about how we use visual schedules with Ezra? Let me know below!
Gosh this video is so dear to my heart - thankyou taking the time to share a little of the things that have made Ezra's world that much easier. Can't wait to keep following along!!
I'm late to the party, but for carseats we pulled over and refused to go anywhere until our son buckled. He caught on quickly. Bolding from the van when we stopped or were returning to the van was another issue. We held hands and had two sets of eyes on him when possible.
My oldest (age 10) is on the Spectrum and we have used Handwriting Without Tears (HWT) for most of his homeschool years. We also tried IEW PALS for the writing too. Thankfully he did not get out of the car seat when the car was running, but maybe you can use a carabiner to keep the harness straps attached? I will ask my friend, who has an ASD child that would try to get out of the seat, what she did. The safety item that we still have is a metal security door (in front of the main door) with a deadbolt lock. It was great to slow him down when he was younger. Eventually he figured out how to open it though and we switch to using behavioral measures instead. You can probably use another lock on top too if needed. My son doesn’t elope anymore, so we don’t need it for him now. But the door is great for warmer months, when you want the breeze coming in but need the door locked (we don’t have AC in our home). Thanks for your video! I will pass it onto some friends with younger kids that have special needs.
Our latest favorites are a rolling ten drawer cart (the typical ones you see all over homeschool world) with visuals on the front that we work through from top to bottom during school time. I include fun reward break items in between each learning activity. I discovered my daughter will cooperate much better with teeth brushing with an electric tooth brush. We have a Tonie Box (similar to a yoto) in our house. The marker thing is so true! My daughter hates anything fine motor. Thanks again!
I have a 12 year old son with Autism and his eloping had gotten so bad that we have resorted to having to put a GPS tracker on him. I’m sure your sons not doing it but if he ever does (my son started around 8 years old) Jiobit has been a lifesaver for us. You can set a geofence around your home where it will alarm you if he leaves. I tried the AirTag and it didn’t update quickly enough when he would run. We have it on his ankle with a magnetic key because he will remove it when he wants to elope. Considering we have ponds and water, traffic, etc we don’t take any chances with safety either! These are great suggestions, thank you!
Yes!!! Would love a video on visual schedules and visual aids!!!
I’d love more videos on your visuals. Thank you so much for sharing!

Our son pt got him a car seat with a special harness that can be locked and a hidden puts button. Been a life saver!

When you're ready for pencils, try the hwot ones and Ticonderoga tri-grip. They have a shape to them.
Love, love, love this! Thanks for sharing!❤
Super helpful!! I love how thorough you are. Very much appreciate it!

Thank you for sharing this. My son is 13. I wish I had this info years ago. And the door bell thing 🤯!!!
Thank you so much for sharing all these resources! I have an ASD son that is 5 as well. Very interested in the visuals!

I would love a video on how you create visuals! ❤
You should watch Mummy of four UK she has 4 children with Autism and she uses the Airtags as well
I homeschool my 12 year old with autism in northwest Ohio. There are lots of resources available. I would be more than happy to correspond via email.
