    Your Tiny lice are Mysid Shrimps, Mysis sp. are a Coastal species of small crustacean which form the
    part of the macro planckton that feed our fish stocks, this time of the year they are extremly prolific and
    a vital part of the food chain. The word 'vermin' is not appropriate. Apart from that agreat video and
    very enjoyable.

    I believe it's possible for the coloration to have an impact on the lobster's attitude. I've seen that firsthand in a snake; she was an albino, and I can't help but feel that she _knew_ she had no camouflage, because she was a fighty-bitey maniac...until she realized that it was a human in her territory (handling, cage cleaning, ect). She trusted humans, and felt safe with us, but until she realized that was a hand and not a paw or mouth coming at her, she'd bite. Soon as she figured out it was a person, she settled straight down and turned as sweet as pie.

    • @carlyoung6111
      @carlyoung6111 ปีที่แล้ว

      To me, the weirdest things to get into the pots are the rocks. It is not as if the lobsters and crabs take them in for something to play with while they wait for their pots to be lifted. The rocks are not interested in the bait either. I would love to hear theories of how they get in there.

    Great video as always John. I have 2 questions. Do you need somthing like a lisence or permit to fish, as you say, as a hobby? Do people take (poach/steal) from your pods? Like the way, like a true sheppard, you handle your lobsters👍👍👍. Love from Holland

    So, you got me thinking. You mentioned the lice in your cages on sandbars. I took my grandchildren to beach at low tide, and they played on and in the sandbars and came back bit by what I thought we sandbar flees but maybe they were lice? Who knows. Took them home, put cream on them an off they went.

    Hi John, I'm just being nosy, but how much does it cost to get a string of crab/lobster traps? The ropes, the buoys, the other stuff that goes along. I know you do this for pleasure (and wonderful dinners) so the cost probably is well worth it to you.
    One other question for you...do you have a crab that produces meat like a snow crab? Your brown edibles look like our stone crabs, the spider looks kind of like the snow crab bit much smaller.

The crabs you toss back are a species I’m not familiar with. I watched your channel for about a year & you release them all being undersized. Lobster pots - Cornwall Gym! Hey John, you often tell us about notching a female breeder but wouldn't all females (and males for that matter) be breeders? Are there female lobsters who never breed? Perhaps you can explain that to us. Thanks!

    • @MarkRoy-e2b
      @MarkRoy-e2b ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In any population of animals, not all are successful breeders. Not all human women are fertile. Regarding males, as a general rule, biologists only even count females when they study breeding. That's because while one male can fertilize many females, one female can only produce eggs to be fertilized so often in her life. Like one woman can have one child about every two years, but a man could father children once every couple of days for years. So you can take out 90% of the males and still produce just as many juvenile lobsters.
