I believe Canada and Mexico main customer is USA with 80% of export going to USA. It will cause catastropic economic issues with Canada if they prevent Canada goods going to the USA. Reduction in production = layoffs. Canada will need to strategize and find demand somewhere else with partners that is willing to pay the same cost USA is paying for their goods or sell at a huge discount. Mexico and China never retaliated...Mexico submitted a proposal and china said it would resolve the issue in the wto. These tariffs are not about the border. Fentanyl enters the US from China. It is dropped into the ocean along the California shoreline and picked up by fishing boats. The cocaine trade moves cocaine from Mexico, and illegal weapons into Canada through the US/Canada border so what about the US’s part in securing their border? Challanging time for everyone. Everyone that keeps saying lets just stop providing energy or goods to USA don't understand that shutting down and excluding export to USA will damage Canada more. I believe Canada and Mexico main customer is USA with 80% of export going to USA. It will cause catastropic economic issues with Canada if they prevent Canada goods going to the USA. Reduction in production = layoffs. Canada will need to strategize and find demand somewhere else with partners that is willing to pay the same cost USA is paying for their goods or sell at a huge discount. Mass layoff impact is far and wide with the surrounding business + people that lives around the community.

When the Canadian government charges these import taxes to Canadian businesses, they will pass on those costs to Canadian consumers. The only way this can be good for consumers is if the Canadian government CUTS OTHER TAXES that we pay by as much or more than these import tax increases.
Everyone seems to have forgotten that Canada imposed a 295% tariff on Vietnamese and Chinese made furniture in 2021, to make Canadian made furniture more price competitive.

I'm incredibly worried that people are taking this as a personal slight from Trump. We need to focus on getting Trudeau and the Liberal Party out of power. Patriotism is all well and good, and we should be more self-sufficient but we shouldn't forget that according to Trudeau, Canada is the first "post-national state" so he doesn't actually want Canada to be independent, his government just prefers for us to be dependent on China and India rather than America.
