0:25 - I've actually taken to calling them Contested vs Uncontested rolls. Face to face can be parsed by people, but "normal" has almost no contextual meaning.
Great graphics and explanation! When I do demos I ask people if they know the card game Blackjack. You want high enough to beat your opponent but you don't want higher than 21.
Great job! Great quality. I appreciate the teaching videos, it will definitely in my opinion help grow the player base. Finding your videos helped rekindle my interest in the Infinity Wargame. Thank you
@@the_infinitygamer I want learn it, I am going to get a starter set soon, but I am also testing out malifaux… I have lots of friends that play wh40k but none that play malifaux or infinity but when I have some small teams I’ll be able to get a few ppl to play some games and see what we like playing more 😊 I have subd to ur channel coz it’s good, u speak well and info is good also 😊🐶
An epic explanation. Thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos. As a new player they explain things so clearly. I wondered if you had any plans for videos on moving from C1 to N4 (I appreciate you have one overview one already) but specifically covering Fireteams (how they operate, composition examples etc)- as reading the rules is one thing but having it explained would be great as it still seems a bit complicated to me.
Oh no! Honestly infinity is so much easier to learn by throwing dice. A lot of the complicated stuff rarely comes up and the rules make a lot more sense when you see them being used. I’m sure you’d get it really quickly with a Warcor showing you the ropes 😃
Good explanation - thank u for your helpful videos. Can u explain what face2face looks like with more than one A.R.O. ? Are the other A.R.O’s of the non-attacked players are normal rolls ?
I can! That depends on the actions. For example. Let’s say the active trooper faces 3 incoming AROs, all of which are BS attacks. The active player chooses to dodge. In this example, the active trooper rolls one dodge roll and compared that to ALL of the incoming BS attacks to see which ones it beats and which ones go through. If, however, the active trooper faced the same 3 incoming BS attacks but responded with a BS attack of its own, splitting fire between 2 of the attackers then those would be face to face rolls. The third incoming attack is a normal roll. Does that make sense?
Howdy! Great content as always. Is a potential video idea for implementing new rules migrating for Code One to N4 possible? I.E. How groups and fireteams work? If not, that's cool. Your content is still incredibly helpful. 👌
That's a good idea. But specifically fireteams, they are not in N4, rather they are rules that have been converted from N3 and are available in the wiki for use until (presumably) the second book comes out.
Something I'm still a little confused on. Active player moves into LoS with 2 enemy models, both declare an ARO to BS Attack. Active player uses BS Attack for second skill against one enemy model. Is one ARO a Normal Roll and the other Face to Face or are all dice rolled together and each ARO treated as part of a large Face to Face?
Personally I think the core-logic of the game needs to reworked so the player always wants to roll as low as possible, and all stats want to be as high as possible. In the case of the F2F rolls this is an easy fix, lower dice rolls cancel each other out, starting with the lowest.
This would be an unfair advantage for me as I always roll super low which currently makes it easy for an opponent to beat me. In this new set up I’d dominate too easily 😉
@@the_infinitygamer Funny. Your video is legitimately great by the way. But consider the explanation for new players. "You always want high stats and to roll low." Versus; "You want to roll low, except in these scenarios, and also sometimes you want to roll but still higher than your opponent."
I agree with you. Particularly as the general rule is that you want high stats and low rolled apart from in saves where you want high rolls, low damage and high armour/BTS.
At first it sounded complex but once it's explained it just feels logical to me, I'm glad to see that. Simple but in depth.
Same, hopefully this helps some newcomers wrap their head around it quickly 😃
Single handed my the MOST helpful video on TH-cam. Great work!!
Hahaha thank you!!

I agree, I think contested and uncontested is a much better phrase for both!
Great graphics and explanation! When I do demos I ask people if they know the card game Blackjack. You want high enough to beat your opponent but you don't want higher than 21.
That’s a really good way to explain it!
An excellent video and as a new player gearing up for Infinity N4 and Codeone. Incredibly useful.
So glad you liked it and welcome to Infinity!!
Great explanation, thanks! Always found it tricky to get across.
I only recently wrapped my head around rolls over 20 😂
Nice clear explanation, thanks and useful as hadn’t got to the over 20 rolls yet
You’re super welcome!
Awesome video definitely going to be sending this to some new players I'm teaching.
On a side note HMG is Burst 4.
Yup Erich pulled me up on that too. It’s not an IG video without an inaccuracy hidden in there somewhere 😂
New to Infinity (playing first game this weekend probably) and love your channel!
Welcome to the family! I hope you have plenty of fun and learn some great things! Which faction are you playing?
@@the_infinitygamer Nomads. Also eyeing up combined army :)
An excellent choice! Someone has to be the bad guy right?
Very helpful. For some reason the explanations and examples in the book just weren't getting me there.
So glad this was of use!
Very clear and useful!
Thank you Rob!
Nice explanation, very lucid
Thank you very much!

Thank you so much and great to hear you’re back in the game. I really appreciate your comment on this video and it helps motivate me to do more 😃

I definitely need to do one. Apparently fireteams are getting a rules update at some stage but I’m not sure when.
Really appreciate this kind of video, I've painted 4 armies but am still too confused about how to play to actually head down to the LGS

@@MrBadgers Currently new fire team rules are scheduled for "next year".
I really would like to do a fireteam video and have sketched out the content. If I do it now then the new fireteam rules will come out sooner!
@@the_infinitygamer Now you understand how CB works.
😂😂😂
Hello. I wondered about multiple crit rolls. If an attacker crits twice and the defender crits once does one still go through?
No, none go through 😃

One is rolled as a face to face and the other is a normal 😃
Did I miss ties?
No I might have 😂
Okay, but if player A gets two crits, and player B gets one crit...
I'm pretty sure nothing happens, right?
Player A gets a slap for being so lucky.
I genuinely don’t know! That’s a great question.
