- I can't tell you enough about the playing of these two masters. Kevin Burke is so smooth he is with no doubt my top favorite fiddler. Cal Scott has written dozens of pbs scores and I love to play his composition, the Lighthouse keepers Waltz. Check out their new cd Across the Black River

ALL BEAUTIFUL MUSIC,LOVED THE TUNE BY JERRY HOLLAND,THANKYOU
Kevin Burke is one of the best without a doubt. Its great to listen to his playing - never seems to rush the tunes, even the fast ones. *****
He's you're virtual immortal teacher, watch him. You can learn alot by watching and listening. Well, anyway he's my virtual immortal teacher. I can't imagine reaching his level, however, he is "the bomb"! Thanks fiddling Sam for this lovely video and audio
Whew, that was fantastic!
I really don't see how anybody could dislike this.
Great great stuff!!!
1. McDermott's 2. Master Crowley's 3. Sean Sa Cheo 4. Paddy Ryan's Dream (a.k.a. Miss Lyle) 5. Last Night's Fun
Lovely smooth style. I've followed Kevin since his days with the Bothy Band. Great musician.
Thanks fiddlingsam for all those great high quality Kevin Burke's clips. Please share any others you might have as well.
Awesome! Thanks!
Beautiful music. Reminds me of the true roots of Bluegrass!
I have this CD, took a workshop last summer w. Kevin. Still don't know how in hell he does it.
Great tunes! First one sounds like a version of Master McDermott's, not sure if it's the same tune. Second tune is Master Crowley's, third tune is Sean Sa Cheo in D instead of the usual A. Absolutely fantastic playing!
I agree, Cal is a highly accomplished musician and he is a real nice guy. Kevin Burke would only pick the best to play with him and to co-record a cd .
love u guy's. Sam
p.s. the last is almost exactly Wind that Shakes... but also called 'New Found Out' by Mulcahy Family on their CD.
@BX500 Last Tune is exactly the 2nd time around of "WTST Barley" by Liam O'Flynn on Planxty's "Cold Blow and Rainy Night." He only plays it first time thru; then he returns to the version he played 1st time thru.
Nice stuff!
Mr. Burke makes it look almost effortless as he plays.
I especially like the second reel!
He totally owns the contemporary style here
Love it.. Thanks
I hope you all enjoy this as much as I do
Sam
There are several versions of Wind that Shakes the Barley. This is one of them.
Your amazing! I hope that some day I will be able to play as well as you do!
An-mhaith ar fad, Sehr gut, Très Bien, Хорошо, Mr. Burke.
Cal Scott, plays a good guitar too!
Tunes (NO songs): Boys of the Lough - Master Crowley’s - Sean Sa Cheo (John in the Fog) - Paddy Ryan’s Dream - The Wind that shakes the Barley.
The Boys of The Lough
I believe the last tune is Wind that Shakes the Barley.
@MichaelMAFox I disagree. You gotta give the guy props for keepin up with such an awesome fiddler.
Wind that shakes the barley , that last one , isn't it?
Sounds good Cal! You never age. Say hi to Sue. Oh yeah, that fiddle player ain't so bad either!
Heh, didn't listen long enough.... Fourth tune is Paddy Ryan's Dream, last tune is kind of like Wind that Shakes the Barley, but the A part sounds different than usual.... great tune, whatever it is!
got anyone a vid of melodie/rondes de loudeac? it's awesome.. guitar and fiddle played by two masters of there instruments.. no need for someone else...
i got a few cds from him ,, hes good
Are you sure that last tune isn't a setting of "The Wind That Shakes the Barley"? It surely isn't "Last Nights Fun". Also, isn't that first tune "The Boys of the Lough"?
First song is the Boys of the Lough, according to Mary Bergin.
Must be on your end. I can play the video with no problem.
Sam
The cat and the fiddle
I believe it is drop d.
@uldalepony agreed.......IMHO Burke and Alistair Fraser are the best....
A bowed triplet is correctly called a treble.
A teacher can. Or another Irish fiddler. Get thee to a session.
@MichaelMAFox ...I very much disagree
The guitar ruins it
Transcendent. OMG!!
