Back in the early JDM days I used to see kids machine just the blocks without the front cover. Both the motor back together and be shocked when the front cylinder didn't seal or there are issues with the oil pump or front cover cracking.
Thanks man ..i bought a e36 and am following your channel closely ..I found the answer in the comments but thank you !! Merry Christmas..if you ever do drift indy I'd love to meet up
I agree, but would have to remove the front timing cover, and the goal was to not takeoff the damper and other pulleys. The block got fully sanded, just not edges of the back of the timing cover but they do not require decking
Timing chain cover has to be level with the block as well since the head also sits on it. If you have one decked at a shop they have to have it installed as well.
Yes for sr20 but doesn’t matter for m50. That part of gasket only seals crank case and not actual compression areas! Just a thin rtv needed where they meet.. And NEVER do that with cometic mls. Don’t use rtv on head gaskets ever actually. They have a specific coating on the outside for sealing
Mfer can rebuild his turbo motor in 1 day haha
luv u
Miss u
You can get great results with a mirror. The "tin side" is always super flat. However... I heard that cabinet door and Ikea shelves work too O.o
Lol never thought of a mirror

number 1 mistake when machining an sr20 is not having the front cover mounted! You are exactly right
What made you steer away from another cutring?
I initially thought it was a cut ring issue, but it turned out to be a head crack! So I still recommend cut rings without the copper spacer
@ Cool, thanks for the response.
why the mls not cutring
I thought I was having issue with them but it turned out to be a cracked head! Gasket was fine but had bought an mls for the thinner .073.

should taken out chain tensioner, front of the block wont be totaly flat

I also put a thin thin layer of gasket maker on my MLS before installing. Might’ve been overkill but it was recommended.

I could tell instantly because you were going back and forth, you will a low area in the center
Low area? Everything is less than .001 with machinist level and feeler gauges. Flat af
needed to level and strap the block firmer for even sanding preasure
