You learn the traffic patterns where to get off to get around construction where traffic builds up etc. Now the opposite can't be said leaving Cinci. Almost always get stuck in traffic at the 65 bridge trying to cross. Cinci is pretty dirty prepared to Louisville.

Few facts about Louisville-Lou-ah-vul, it has the most shotgun houses in the country, use to be New Orleans but Katrina destroyed a lot. The large bat outside the Slugger Museum was actually designed by accident, the designer just leaned a small bat up against the model leaned back and liked it. Louisville puts on one of the largest fireworks shows in the country, it is 2 weeks before Derby and is the official kickoff to Derby. Louisville has 17 Olmsted parks and 6 parkways. Old Louisville is the largest collection of old Victorian homes in the country.

I agree. When I first bought my house here in Louisville, I was looking at shotguns. High ceilings, no hallways (wastes of space), and small yards. The only drawback to me is that the cellar area is not very usable to me. But who doesn't love the architecture and cute rooms?

    Couple corrections from a local
Kfc originated southeast of louisville in corbin.
Frankfort ky is the capital, lexington is just the 2nd largest populated city.
(Recommendation)Hit up louisville cream there in nulu. Best icecream in the city, on market.
Downtown during day is not too bad. Churchill downs area is roughest part of city any time of day. Especially night.
Derby festival has events for two weeks leading up to derby. Dont miss thunder over louisville.
Pretty accurate review besides those couple things.

I'm looking to move to an apt and am considering two areas/complexes at the moment: one is located near the interchange of 64 and 265. So that would be Middletown, I guess. And the other is located further north and west, on Westport Road just a tad southwest of the Standard Club. Any insights on these two areas? Which you prefer? Which most would prefer? I'm visiting in a few months for the first time to decide if we want to move there. What parts of the 98% rest of Louisville would you suggest I visit?

    • @javiermoretti1825
      @javiermoretti1825 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@throwawayaccnt144 This could require a novel. Regarding sites to see and experience, Louisville has an extensive park system, many of them designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, the designer of NYC's Central Park. Cherokee Park is especially nice. Also noteworthy is Berheim Forest just south of Louisville. If you like a wide variety of dining and clubs, try the Baxter Ave./Bardstown Rd. strip. It's been a hot social spot since I was a teenager. Take a cruise on the Belle of Louisville up and down the Ohio River, and then walk the Big Four Bridge pedestrian bridge across the river (bike rentals are also available). If you want shopping, you have it all in Louisville, especially in the East End, which is the wealthier part of the city. The Kentucky Derby is to Louisville what Mardi Gras is to Mobile, Alabama and New Orleans, Louisiana. It's a couple of weeks of festivals, events, the world's largest fireworks show, and it all culminates with the horse race on the first Saturday in May. Also, it's important to note that the metro area is called "Kentuckiana," because Southern Indiana counties of Floyd, Clark, and Harrison are integral parts of the area. In fact, they have been the fastest growing part of the region, especially the hilly plateau north of New Albany called The Knobs (I'm from New Albany, originally). Across the area you will find homes from modest to extravagant. Depending on where you're coming from, you might find the prices relatively modest in comparison. The weather is variable. Cool to cold winters, warm summers, and very agreeable spring and fall are normal. There's lots of outdoor recreation close by and, if you want, both Cincinnati and Indianapolis are about 90 minutes away. I never felt "deprived" growing up. Though my career took me elsewhere, I still consider that area my home. Any other questions, just ask.

Louisville and surrounding cities are the furtherest east to adopt the eastern time zone in the country. Reason, in the 40’s during war time GE began negotiations to build their Appliance’s, but they wanted to be on the same time zone as the NY STOCK Exchange. So they agreed to build the plant to be able to build tanks and planes… and land planes as well… sorry for the TMI

Proud Louisvillian here. KFC didn't start in Louisville. Colonel Sanders lived in Corbin KY when he started KFC; then franchised. Natives say Louavull lol. You're in downtown, most of us are work from home now. That's why you're not seeing alot of people. Frankfort is the capital. There's some areas that aren't safe at night as with any city. The Breonna Taylor case rocked everyone, then the rioters came and destroyed some of our buildings downtown. We've been building back our city ever since.

Okay my friend…here we go…listen closely….how do you say the name of this city? It’s 3 syllables, with a tiny bit of emphasis on the 1st part….
Lou-ah-vull….must let it roll off of your tongue, say it rather quickly …Lou-ah-vull …Lou-ah-vull ……it’s not Lou-a-ville or Lou-ah-VULL……
It’s not that hard……just don’t emphasize the "Vull"……..if you divided the emphasis of the three syllables, it would be "Lou=40% "ah"=30% "vull"=30%
    Lou-ah-vull …….. OK? Great video

Does anyone that has been to the Galt House recall if there is a memorial of some kind for a worker that fell to his death during construction? My mother grew up with a guy at a children's home that fell to death while constructing a motel in Louisville and I believe it was Galt House. I remember reading the plaque (I think it was) when we visited but it's been over 30 years ago and don't remember.

Been here 28 years, trust me it has gone nothing but downhill in the last several years especially. It's funny because when I moved here in 1994 I had a relative who was a multi-millionaire and lived here her whole life. She told me this was just a "hick town". I couldn't understand that comment then. Now I do. Especially after being to places like Chicago. That said, yes it is boring here but crime is not bad (like Chicago now sadly) and standard of living is decent. It's fine if you are older and not looking for much to do. Lot of millennials who moved here during Covid already going back to big cities, should tell you something.
