  • The automotive industry is currently experiencing a significant transformation, with electric vehicles, connected technologies, and autonomous driving leading the way. Global Capability Center (GCC) such as the Renault-Nissan Technology & Business Center India (RNTBCI) is playing a crucial role in helping car manufacturers navigate this growth. To discuss this evolving landscape, ET Insights spoke to Debashis Neogi, Managing Director of RNTBCI, where he highlighted the centre’s extensive contributions to the global market, with 70 to 80 per cent of its work being international.
The work spans three main domains: engineering, IS/IT (Information Systems and Information Technology), and global business services. Their engineering activities focus on global projects, supporting the development of vehicles for markets in North America, Europe, and Japan, primarily in the digital phase. India, the third-largest automotive market globally, boasts a vast pool of talent, and this talent is pivotal for the Renault-Nissan especially as software and digitalisation become increasingly integral to automotive manufacturing. The centre also focuses on enterprise solutions in areas like sales, marketing, supply chain, and finance, leveraging AI to enhance productivity. The global business services at RNTBCI include accounting and HR services and the integration of digital tools within these services has led to significant productivity improvements.
Neogi explained how the centre after starting operations in 2008, fulfilled specific tasks and has been growing year-on-year in double digits. Lauding the impact of Ranault Duster in Indian market, Neogi mentioned, the aim now is to become a global competence centre in areas like simulation, after-sales engineering, and software validation. He mentioned how collaborations with deep tech startups and academia further strengthen its innovation capabilities, while diversity initiatives foster an inclusive work environment, promoting better outcomes and productivity.
Terming India as a crucial market for Renault-Nissan, Neogi stressed on the country’s significance as a manufacturing base, with a competitive edge in exporting cars, and the ability to be a hub for technology and digital acceleration. Emphasising the importance of upskilling and reskilling talent, as well as collaboration with universities, Neogi underscored the value of cultivating a mindset to become a leader in the industry.
