Medieval Medicine: An Inky Cure

If you're a Sudanese refugee living in a camp in Northern Africa and you're feeling under the weather, you can go to the camp hospital - efficiently run by Doctors Without Borders and free of charge - or you can visit the local healers.
If you choose the traditional route, the Mullah is is going to be your first stop. He'll listen to your symptoms and then write suras from the Koran on a wooden tablet, wash the ink into a bowl of water and give it to you to drink. Or make an amulet with written excerpts from the Koran.
If that doesn't work then he'll send you to a specialist.

This is not an islamic practice, iv seen no evidence if it. Cursed are those who write and make practices and claim the practice is from God. May Alah guide them, maybe it is their misunderstanding.

There are many Islamic practices in the camps that are not actually referenced in the Koran. The issue is illiteracy more than ignorance - most people cannot read so they learn from an elder who learned from their elder, allowing many non-mainstream misconceptions to creep into their beliefs.
