I made it a month ago and the synthesis is really simple. I found synthesis with use of additional calcium chloride in reaction mixture. It stated that yield is increased a lot. I got almost over 95% yield which is odd in so small scale.
when we did it in lab, we put the calcium chloride in the first step with the tert-butanol and the acid, as a dryer for the remaining water in the principal reaction, and after that, before the distillation the raw product was dried with anhydrous sodium sulfate
GREAT VIDEO as usual. Oh my god i am so jealous of that machine that measure refractive index. I never even seen a machine that does that. I am a refractive index virgin.....lol
Could you do a video of multiple characterizations (pros, cons, tips, hacks ) with the refractometer and go a little deep on optics and sugars, My uncle have one of those but is the portable kind for blood and urine I think.
Start by slowly adding concentrated H2SO4 to butan-1-ol in a closed vessel, then add solid NaCl or KCl and heat the mixture. Distill it with a condenser to collect the alkyl halide droplets under water in a beaker then carry out purification.
GREAT VIDEO........Maybe next time you should add some anhydrous ZnCl2 like you would for a Lucas test. Probably increase your yield. I made some tert amyl alcohol like 2 years ago. If i would get off my lazy butt and make some sodium i would make some sodium tert amyl alkoxide so i have a BULKY BASE for elimination reactions
JONATHAN..........He did not say exactly but he did use 85 mL and he said it was concentrated. Technically that USUALLY means 34 to 36% but most home chemist probably use about 32% that they get from lowes or ace hardware. I would GUESS he is using the 32%. Seriously ....as long as its at least 32% you should be good. And if you only got 32% HCl and your worried you might be not put in enough. Just throw in 87 mL instead of 85 mL of HCl. KEEP IN MIND he only put like 26% of a mole of the tert butyl alcohol but 85 mL of concentrated HCl is like 85% of a mole. So there is going to be an EXCESS of HCl even if you are off by 2 or 3 mL

I know it is a 2 year old post but if you see this could you post a link to the synthesis?

thank you so much it was very helpfull
I made tert amyl alcohol via a grignard but i want to make an alkoxide out of it to use for elimination reactions cause it is such a BULKY base
thank you so much you are the best
May I know the mass of volumetric flask and the mass of volumetric flask with distillation product?

What is the ideal yield of the reacction or the most common? What yield is cosidered good ?
You could achieve right about 95% at max
very cool vid :)
Hello I'm a student, I need to ask some questions, how can I contact you?
You can find my mail adress in the channel info :)
@@RaExpIn Hi, thanks for the response. I sent you an email which I found on your IG page. Hope you see it :)
thnx ... how can make 1-chlorobutane [butylcholide] ?

my lab guide said 90% yield, i thought i did like shit but now that i see a pro get relatively the same yield im quite happy :))
I wonder if the opposite methyl group could also be substituted?
no.
Makes 2,2-dichloropropane.

Great!
What is the concentration of HCl?
