The ECCO BIOM 2.1 X Country First Run Review: A trail shoe with surprisingly little cushioning

  • The ECCO BIOM 2.1 X Country is a trail shoe that the brand says is designed for speed, comfort and high performance. It uses something called Biom Natural Motion Technology to encourage the foot to move more naturally with a low profile so you can feel the trail underfoot.
There’s a Phorene midsole, that aims to deliver energy return and bounce, a rubber outsole for grip, and the upper combines a mix of three layers, including textiles and Yak Leather.
Tom has been out with the shoe for an initial run to get some thoughts over 10k of trails.

Not into running but bought them before trip to Paris. So glad I picked those, walked for about 20k steps daily and feet did not hurt at all.

Upper first layer mesh torn where the sneaker bends after 2 months. The first time my ecco sneaker broke.

I'm buying them for walking because my tendonitis flared up because of walking in flat squishy shoes. I've been limping for weeks and only have only recently been able to take my own weight, on one foot, while up on my toes. It still hurts while it's recovering and I only have 3 pairs of shoes which I can wear, which hold and support my foot optimally and lessen the pain (especially that which I have at the end of the day). 2 are Ecco boots. Track 2 and Track 25 GTX. The other are Reiker lightweight walking trainers/ shoes.
I think that part of the expense for Ecco shoes is that they probably fund some serious r&d and testing to ensure that your foot is held and moves in the best way possible for the health and safety of your tendons, ligaments and bones. Part of the result of that is the lack of squishy padding.
In my experience, squishy padding and cushioning has been very bad for my Achilles tendons and, also, in other circumstances, on other days, the joint at the ball of my foot.

Same! I have inflammatory arthritis though with wide feet and high arches. Sizing up, ECCO fits quite well. Better than other options available, and BIOM seems to be really comfortable and supportive without being aggressive about it, aka Birkenstocks.

I had a pair of Biom road running shoes. I did like them though the soles had very little cushioning, they also cracked after a few months.

My experience with Ecco is that that are more walking than running shoes

Thanks for the review, Tom. Style-wise I think it looks really nice, so it's a real shame about the way it performs whilst running.

Not a bad walking shoe. Nice and sturdy. Good comfort.

Undeniably , ECCO fitting is one of the best in the world, but hoping they can find a way to get out of PU sole and most of all hire a good designer, especially on their athletic categories.

Eccos are well knows for durability not for performance. And honestly, it’s funny that they are trying to get into sporty things. They should stick to their thing.

just a note of what is happening with my Ecco shoes: my shoes are crambling and falling a part only after 1 year of light use. you don't want to help me and many other's which are complaining on line. tipe : Ecco shoes crambling on line and you will read all I'm talking about it. now your solution is giving me a voucher of 20% off a new shoes ? give me a break . I've paid almost 200 dollars for mine. I"won't give up until you resolve my problem.Pls customers, look on line type the words Ecco Shoes crumbling and you will read all about it. they make no effort to try to help you here. they will take your shoes for " evaluation" they already know about the problem so why even go to this process? if you pay a lot for this shoes considered lost as they will give you a "consolation" trophy to buy on line and guess what? if does not fit you they won't take it back . their police is not work with you really. Shame on you Ecco shoes you know you have this problem and don't want to help us CUSTOMERS.

Ecco shoes fall apart if you don't wear them. The liquid rubber solution is designed to strengthen the rubber as you walk in them. Otherwise it breaks down. You're unhappy with Ecco because you literally just didn't wear them.

You can buy knockoffs for less than $10! Just tells you how much they need to manufacture this.

    • @LouisWinthorpe622
      @LouisWinthorpe622 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

No, it tells you how cheap to manufacture and shitty a knock off is. That's all.
Knock offs have no r&d or quality control and the materials used will not have the same, tested, properties or perform to the same standards that original items do (e.g. the glue).
The fit and finish (cutting and stitching, etc) will not be of the same quality, either.
The price of fake Rolex and Ecco, etc, is, in absolutely no way, an indication of the costs involved in making a high quality, original, item.
The makers of cheap shit products and knock offs only care about making a facsimile of an item, which looks like the item you think it is, for as long as it takes to part you from your hard-earned cash.
After that, they have absolutely no interest in whether that item continues to operate and serve you, in the way you expect it to, for any period of time, whatsoever. They are no-name products. Whereas companies like Ecco have a good name and reputation to maintain.
A thing is not the exact same as another thing, just because it looks vaguely similar to you. My old dad used to think cheap shit was good, too.
But, really, to think such a thing, is either overly optimistic, pessimistic and cynical, or foolish.
