    Lots of good info to unpack here. There are some situations that are just hard to anticipate until you're out there doing the thing live. Congrats on a successful show!

    You are proving every time I watch your videos that train of thought, trying to explain what your trying to do real time isn't as bad as it feels like it would be in my head. Congrats on the live set!

      I don't think i could do it any other way. I tried scripting videos early on and I hated it. In the end I just want to share and maybe help encourage someone like myself who needs a little push. I have gained so much from just going for it and the confidence I have found is priceless. I'm not perfect or even trying to be I just want to have fun, do what I love, and hopefully inspire.

    Thanks for sharing your story. I am confident that as you move along this journey, you will find a system that works for you. The joy (and frustration) of learning. Enjoy the moments along the way and soon, that amazing view will come into focus. Keep having fun!

    Thanks for imparting your experience, might I suggest a small light like the small selfie lights they come with clip to attach to other devices or a small tripod and can charge via usb. I really like the setup/rig.

      That is on my list for sure. Thanks for the advice. One more thing to get is a small dolly so I can travel with this case without breaking my back. This thing weighs around 35/40 pounds. I was so tried by the time I got to the gig and even more so on my way home. It's all a big learning process.

      I learned that lesson the hard way. I will from here on out have several patterns set up for each section. Trying to manage arranging in one pattern was not a good idea lol.

      Live looping scares me a bit but It would be a nice way to do some improvising. Anyway that's yet to be worked out. I need to focus on a solid set I can move through easily before I'm comfortable enough to try that.

    Final compression can help a lot, the bluebox has a built in one also recording.

    • @SoulSearchingGaijin
      @SoulSearchingGaijin  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for the tip. I ended up doing some compression/limiting/ eq on the master out of the DAW before the show. Everything gets routed back into the DAW then out to the mains. This helped a lot.

  • @expandingknowledge8269

    WOW, a lot to think about for live performance, especially using a DAW. I think the more live Gigs you do, the better prepared you will be for the next. Having little time to prepare doesn't help, but just watching the video, it came across as seamless. I think you did Great Greg. I wonder how big name performers like Tangerine Dream, had transitioned to using DAWS, compared to their very early days. I like the immediacy of watching live performance of well seasoned musicians using modern DAWS, like Klaus Schulze. Now why do you prefer A-Minor scale over other scales, just curious. I never use headphones while playing my instruments, even when I record..Read Old School here. Can't wait for your next live Gig Greg!😎

    • @SoulSearchingGaijin
      @SoulSearchingGaijin  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you for the feedback. I'll be much more relaxed and hopefully prepared next time. I don't really know why I use A min so much. I'm not really a keyboard player more of a drummer. A min was always easy for me to play in. I only use headphones due to my living situation. I have lived in a small studio apartments for most of my life and have to worry about neighbors and driving my wife crazy lol.

    Hi! I'm also a TH-camr and I base my entire setup around an iPad Pro + Digitone & Digitakt. In contrast to you I use AUM exclusively. I'm assuming that you're using your Digitakt II as your iPad Pro's audio interface, and that Cubasis sends your Master Clock. In my testing of a few months ago, Cubasis has proven to be 100% unusable to send proper clock to my Elektron machines, so I was really surprised to see you use Cubasis here. I was curious to know if you've encountered such problems in your use case. Cheers!

    • @SoulSearchingGaijin
      @SoulSearchingGaijin  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I really want to have the digitakt be the master clock. I am only using cubasis for sounds at the moment. I went with cubasis because of it's ease of midi learn/mapping. I first tried logic pro for ipad but it still doesn't have an easy way to map my controlers. I am so new to incorperating the ipad so I'm cinda lost honestly. I am actually using a moto 4 in/out interface as I want to have multipale ins/outs. Not the perfect setup for sure. I am looking for a better way that still gives me easy access to midi mapping and quality sounds. Any ideas?

    • @SoulSearchingGaijin
      @SoulSearchingGaijin  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      To add I also haven't been able to get cubasis to sync to external clock. So frustrating.

    • @Silent_Stillness
      @Silent_Stillness 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SoulSearchingGaijin My recommendation as a "seasoned" user is to abandon the idea of having the DT as the master clock entirely, and to instead rely on Ableton Link while being at peace with the fact that there will always be a syncing delay typically of up to 1 bar (also known as a "quantum") between the time where you press play on your master app and the time where music actually starts.
      On paper it is possible for Audiobus to receive MIDI clock from an external source and in a very basic setup that would theoretically get you what you want (although I haven't bothered testing this because it's absolutely not worth it for me in the context of AUM and the complexity/power of my setup).
      Because Loopy Pro is the successor of Audiobus (as it's from the same developer), since Loopy Pro is also a Host application you might want to check if you couldn't get what you want on the external MIDI clock sync front directly with Loopy Pro.
      From my understanding though (even though I have not tested this) despite the fact that Audiobus can both be synced to incoming external MIDI clock AND is compatible with the Ableton Link technology, I'm under the impression that, purely from a logical standpoint, the idea of having multiple Ableton Link synced devices/apps magically sort of work out and adapt to external incoming MIDI clock is simply not possible.
      If you're interested in advanced ideas in the context of an iPad Pro based setup that includes dedicated music hardware, I think my channel might really interest you, especially since you own the Digitakt II, which is literally the best possible device on the market to be paired with an iPad Pro, even more so in an AUM based setup.
      I also have my own forum thread on the Elektronauts forum under the Digitakt section, it's named "My custom iPad Pro based setup, with AUM + Digitakt & Digitone" and can easily be found.
      Directly on my YT channel I really recommend my video "iPad Pro Custom Music Production Setup Review & Guide (with AUM + Elektron Digitakt & Digitone)" as I can't possibly fathom that you wouldn't find at least some significantly useful information that would benefit you in one way or another in there. It's a significant time investment but it's absolutely worth it for someone with real pragmatic reasons to be interested in the subject. Cheers! :)

    • @Silent_Stillness
      @Silent_Stillness 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SoulSearchingGaijin Oh and I realize I also forgot to say, the whole point of involving Ableton Link in an iPad Pro based setup is the ability for example to sync all Ableton Link compatible apps in your setup, whether they are internal to your iPad, or actually external for something like a laptop running Ableton Live for example. In parallel you would use something that's ultra reliable like AUM for example to send MIDI clock to your connected hardware. Even though Cubasis is compatible with Ableton Link, I still found it to be unusable in tandem with AUM while AUM is responsible for sending proper clock to my Elektron machines, as the action of switching my iPad's focus from Cubasis to AUM or other apps on my iPad ruins the timing of the clock, and Cubasis is 100% at fault in this because I never have such a problem with other apps when Cubasis is not loaded. The only option left is to drop the stuff that doesn't work from the equation, at that means letting go of Cubasis. I haven't even bothered contacting the developer about this because I figured if something so major still exists after this many years for this apps, what are the chances it's going to get fixed...
