I was at that gig. May 6th, 1974 - Sheffield City Hall.
To me it’s like someone has been on another planet. How did it sound actually? Was the sound really loud, balanced(in terms of bass-treble)? Did you hear Blackmore well?
@@scythianarcher4133 That's the way it works with audience recordings; they exist for those that appreciate the actual *performance* of a Monday night in 1974, as opposed to sound quality only. Stick with the pro live recordings (there are plenty) of Purple if you're offended by this one taped from the audience, although it's actually in great "B+" mono quality, considering the recording gear available at the time.
@@vefwrctgycvt Offended by the recording? what are you talking about, man? I absolutely treasure these rare recordings. I’ve heard plenty, but this I’ve heard for the first time, and I really enjoyed it. I just wanted the man to share his real life impressions from the sound that he heard, that’s why I asked some additional questions on the balance of the sound.
This was three months before I saw them in the Astrodome in August of 1974. What a show! The Astrodome is a huge venue and it was packed! And it was LOUD!

Far more dynamic onstage than mach II.
MKIII has aged the best imo. Still love MKII, MKIV and MKI though.
