Very helpful review. Thank you. I like what you played as well. For someone who says they do not how to play, the instrument seems suited to the way your mind works musically.
I played bottleneck blues on an acoustic guitar before ever touching a lap steel, they are very similar. Thanks for commenting, you got me playing on my lap steel again! It takes me mental effort to go to the trouble of playing an electric instrument, I think acoustic sounds so much better. I hope you have a great day!
Thought of buying a used Ibanez 4 string bass for $125 at my local shop....I can pull a lot of imagination out of a Rogue for less $$$. Nice review! Thank you!
I still love playing this thing even a year after buying it, it's very easy on the wrists and I like what you said about "pulling a lot of imagination" out of something!
I just bought one, I'm a complete beginner that can't read music and I don't play any instruments. I can't quite figure out what it came tuned to? So I find a TH-cam lesson for beginners that says tune to C6. I did. Sounds ok. I got a book from the music store that says tune to open G. After watching your video I'm thinking I better have the music store change the strings so I can play open G or D. Kind of frustrating to say the least that I can't find any information from Rogue as to the recommended tuning. I think I paid $120? Now I get to drive 40 minutes to music store and spend more money.
Play with that tuning as much as you like and when it's time, change the strings yourself! You'll find it's really easy to do with enough practice. A string winder helps, too. I really enjoy open tunings for messing around with blues and folk. But if you are really going to study this instrument, C6 is much more versatile! I hope you have fun with it.
@@Cheesus4jesus you can never have enough guitars. My favorite for open tunings is an acoustic... If you have any laying around, give it a try. If the action is good, slack key and pyrex slide, if the action is really bad, put it on your lap and use a steel bar. Remember to not touch the frets, use a light touch. :D
15's are what I am using, you can do C6 tuning with these. I like the pair I am using because I don't know how to play Hawaiian tuning very well, but I could do G6 to learn. GHS Electric Lap Steel Strings C6 Tuning 15-36 www.amazon.com/dp/B00AHL2X98/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_axwsDbKNV78M8
I ordered through Amazon twice and still didn't get one. I got refunds, but you can't play a refund. I ended up buying a Harley Benton for less money and shipped from Germany to Canada in 6 days. That being said good luck on your adventure. I'm retired and am just starting out myself.
Since making this review I switched to playing an acoustic guitar on my lap and the sound is so much more pleasing than the pickup on this inexpensive electric. Make sure to post how yours sounds, might have to upgrade my lap steel someday!
Very useful. I just picked up one of these, and this gives me a better understanding of what I’m dealing with here. Rock on 🤘
Thank you for posting! I'm going to try and get me one soon! This was very helpful! ✌😎

I have one coming in a few days. Can rebuild it if needed. Sound very good for 80 bucks. Thanks for this nice review.
just bought this too. liking it so far but i plan to modify the thing intensely.. good video my man.
Did you ever end up modifying it? I'm saving up for an acoustic resonator, but curious if upgrading this puppy might get me more tone.

Great video, lots of useful information. What gauge of strings should one buy for c6 tuning? Thanks

Mine would not play thru amp. Had to clean corrosion out of jack, and resolder wires to it.
Yikes, no wonder these guitars are so cheap.... Probably sat in a warehouse for a few years before you bought it. DX
