Happy New Year Dan. It was so good to see you again. In the early days of grief you feel guilt because you know life goes on, but moving on feels like a betrayal and like you are leaving your loved one behind. In the throes of my grief my friends always reminded me that they needed me, my garden needed me, my pets needed me, my plants needed me etc. I found hope and purpose in knowing that as much as I needed my friends, family and their support, they needed me just as much too. Whatever you decide to do with the channel, we will be here because we need you to be happy as much as we find happiness in your videos. Although the journey will be bittersweet, let's live in hope. 💕

As a widow I would suggest you give yourself the gift of time ,don’t expect yourself to charge into a new year and accomplish wonderful feats . Let things happen at a leisurely pace because you may find your energy drains quickly ,both physical & emotional . But keeping moving and tiring your body out will help achieve needed restful sleep if you’re not sleeping well , coping is harder .

A phrase you and Sindy would use on Simple Life Portugal was brought to mind from hearing your words today, "Okay, Lets do it" and you would both go off and start something mostly on the land, then nature sounds or music would play. Lots of places where no words are needed. Maybe a good starting idea for "New Beginnings" where words are not needed all the time. The occasional walk, a few down by a stream were lovely. Maybe there's a viewpoint you could drive to on a hill you would like to share or go, just to change your surroundings for an hour or so and still have privacy and take a short video if you feel so inclined to share here later, when you are ready. @@SimpleLifePortugal the fact you got off the sofa, dressed, hair combed, etc...is much more than I was able to when i was grieving. Some days is more than I am capable of period...jammies or pajama pants ...all my neighbors wear them outside for the brief moments we are outside...get something from car, get mail, etc. Some ppl wear them to the store, I would not go that far..(my age might be showing...)...with 7 neighbors on a dead end street...I've thought we should have pj pants parade...see who has duplicates.:-)
I forgot to mention the great work on building your home, and the patience and detail to projects, example the wooden sink, wow! the cupboards, the wooden counter top from end pieces glued together and so much more. You have many skills we can learn from and you are willing to learn and show those as well. Martijn Doolaard has a great channel with a style that might suit you. A lot of his videos show him at work in his beautiful surroundings with little ‘chatter’. Short videos to start, showing you just ‘being’ on your land would be a great start. ❤

Thank you Dan for the video. When I was in a similar situation to yours, I just wanted to go, fell asleep and wake up in few years, when all the pain and worry hopefully dissapeared. Oh.. I so understand what you are tying to do, what you saying.... Just do not be hard on yourself. Take each day, step by step. Sometimes you'll be upset, some days will be more joyfull. Sometimes you'll be feeling like to give up and then again you be fine... Be gentle on yourself and eventually things will be easier.

I believe you have the right thoughts. To change the format of the channel and make it yours. Yes unpack the computer and start a journey of learning. Sindy’s bag can wait. I put my husband’s in the back of the closet for 2 years. Changing the setup of the house in a way that works for you is a good idea, remember that it doesn’t all have to be done at once. Healing takes time. I like when you write on the community page, you are a poet and express yourself well.
I think of her often she was and continues to be an inspiration for me. Thank you for your openness and honesty. At one point in the video when you were struggling a ray of sunshine came over the hill and touched your left shoulder… I like to think it was a warrior princess reaching to comfort.

Yes, take the dogs on a walk...film them walking, playing, show us winter landscape of PT. You have the power of nature on your doorstep. Researchers have said spending time in nature is healing...granted it is harder to do in winter...but no snow yet or it already melted. They say getting out with the animals on their walk, no matter how brief, getting the fresh air in the lungs is important for the healing process as well as help drive away the depression that can slowly creep upon you.

Hey Dan, its me again, 😊! I have been in continuous Prayer for you as you know and your Family and Friends. As i have said before, i have gone through this horrible time your experiencing and I have come through the other side. My Faith helped tremendously because i knew he was no longer in pain. It was hard and easy at the same time, ( if that makes sense) because he didn't have to struggle to breathe. He was a positive fighter like Sindy. And Thom was my biggest cheerleader in life!! His family encapsulated me with love and friendship way beyond his death. But then came the light, like i could hear him say, "What are you doing there? Get up and get moving! You still have our memories and i know you hear me laughing at your dumb stuff and i know your cracking jokes back at me." I was letting the tears flow while typing the upper portion, but now I'm actually smiling because i can hear him laugh 8n my mind! What a unique laugh he had, straight from deep within!!😂 You to will her Sindy as your cheerleader. And when you do some quirky thing, you'll smile or laugh, especially knowing she would have laughed at you or with you!! I better stop now. Customs in portugal holds onto packages and makes ppl pay import taxes on it. Very unlike US. Ppl who have lived in PT for a couple of years advised the newbies not to have anything sent to them from family because customs would literally hold the package til recipient paid the import tax. It wasnt like this before PT entered EU...but now very expensive to send anything out of PT....US doesnt require import taxes but the sender pays through the nose. Since they have a PO Box...shipping them anything might be a problem as well.
@maryr7593 owe, and just to let you know about Customs & Immigration (they work for the same Department now), require somethings being shipped via shipping or Air depends on the Price, have to pay, pay, pay. I used to work with them.
I can see why she loved you so much. Such an intimate raw connection to losing a person who was your partner in life. I must say this, you are very articulate and well spoken. I think she is very proud of you for coming forth with your experience to share with us. You sell yourself short on communication skills, get on the computer and learn, if you need to figure out how to post. We don't need music, just you being real. I could go on and on about this, but I would like to say a few parse words. Just take your own time, if you tube income is important, just video what you are doing in a day, or not. No need for explanations, but if you want to express your sorrow, we will be here for you with a big heart. I loved what Sindy said often when chatting with us... "so that is that."
To add to this, some folks have used signs as a way to chat....like the ones that say, we chose this house, this one adopted us...and go forth to show all pic or vid of dog. Sooo few men show raw emotion so it is refreshing to see it actually. Never apologize for that...clearly in today's world we need more ppl expressing their raw emotion. Too much fakeness of fb and to some extent yt...you never see the more difficult moments. If you have wildlife that visit your streams or whatever, filming some of their activities and posting it would be grand as wel...besides the pups. Life of a chicken? What is their day like? Your couch has missed you for two months....it definitely your embrace and snuggles. I understand the guilt of not getting up...but it hasnt even been a month yet! Embrace the couch and do what feels good to you...filming sleeping animals....my cat moans in her sleep, dreams...everything twitches, sometimes there is an odor in the air...where did that come from? A very relaxed kitty. Plenty of ways to film which dont involve you and dont bother to edit...break into pieces so you have something for following week...esp if income is a need. Otherwise most of us would just say...no need to worry about doing any content for as long as long as you need. Your animals need you as your couch too. Did they get to say goodbye to their momma? Did she get to say her goodbyes to them?

And revisit your dreams for this place that Sindy not necessarily shared with you, and start working on them too. In the early days of grief you feel guilt because you know life goes on, but moving on feels like a betrayal and like you are leaving your loved one behind.
In the throes of my grief my friends always reminded me that they needed me, my garden needed me, my pets needed me, my plants needed me etc. I found hope and purpose in knowing that as much as I needed my friends, family and their support, they needed me just as much too.
Whatever you decide to do with the channel, we will be here because we need you to be happy as much as we find happiness in your videos.

As a widow I would suggest you give yourself the gift of time ,don’t expect yourself to charge into a new year and accomplish wonderful feats . Let things happen at a leisurely pace because you may find your energy drains quickly ,both physical & emotional . But keeping moving and tiring your body out will help achieve needed restful sleep if you’re not sleeping well , coping is harder .

A phrase you and Sindy would use on Simple Life Portugal was brought to mind from hearing your words today, "Okay, Lets do it" and you would both go off and start something mostly on the land, then nature sounds or music would play. Lots of places where no words are needed. Maybe a good starting idea for "New Beginnings" where words are not needed all the time. The occasional walk, a few down by a stream were lovely. Maybe there's a viewpoint you could drive to on a hill you would like to share or go, just to change your surroundings for an hour or so and still have privacy and take a short video if you feel so inclined to share here later, when you are ready. Just ideas, thoughts. I wish you a Happy New Year, thank you for your kind wishes of a Happy New Year to us also. @@SimpleLifePortugal the fact you got off the sofa, dressed, hair combed, etc...is much more than I was able to when i was grieving. Some days is more than I am capable of period...jammies or pajama pants ...all my neighbors wear them outside for the brief moments we are outside...get something from car, get mail, etc. Some ppl wear them to the store, I would not go that far..(my age might be showing...)...with 7 neighbors on a dead end street...I've thought we should have pj pants parade...see who has duplicates.:-)
I forgot to mention the great work on building your home, and the patience and detail to projects, example the wooden sink, wow! the cupboards, the wooden counter top from end pieces glued together and so much more. You have many skills we can learn from and you are willing to learn and show those as well. Rambling - ramble on, it may help - expression - creating - creative expression - allowing ones self expression to express as we learn to be in a new place in our life. Thank you Dan for the video. When I was in a similar situation to yours, I just wanted to go, fell asleep and wake up in few years, when all the pain and worry hopefully dissapeared. Oh.. I so understand what you are tying to do, what you saying.... Just do not be hard on yourself. Take each day, step by step. Sometimes you'll be upset, some days will be more joyfull. Sometimes you'll be feeling like to give up and then again you be fine... Be gentle on yourself and eventually things will be easier.

Yes, take the dogs on a walk...film them walking, playing, show us winter landscape of PT. You have the power of nature on your doorstep. Researchers have said spending time in nature is healing...granted it is harder to do in winter...but no snow yet or it already melted. They say getting out with the animals on their walk, no matter how brief, getting the fresh air in the lungs is important for the healing process as well as help drive away the depression that can slowly creep upon you.

Hey Dan, its me again, 😊! I have been in continuous Prayer for you as you know and your Family and Friends. As i have said before, i have gone through this horrible time your experiencing and I have come through the other side. My Faith helped tremendously because i knew he was no longer in pain. It was hard and easy at the same time, ( if that makes sense) because he didn't have to struggle to breathe. He was a positive fighter like Sindy. And Thom was my biggest cheerleader in life!! His family encapsulated me with love and friendship way beyond his death. But then came the light, like i could hear him say,
"What are you doing there? Get up and get moving! You still have our memories and i know you hear me laughing at your dumb stuff and i know your cracking jokes back at me." I was letting the tears flow while typing the upper portion, but now I'm actually smiling because i can hear him laugh 8n my mind! What a unique laugh he had, straight from deep within!!😂

Customs in portugal holds onto packages and makes ppl pay import taxes on it. Very unlike US. Ppl who have lived in PT for a couple of years advised the newbies not to have anything sent to them from family because customs would literally hold the package til recipient paid the import tax. It wasnt like this before PT entered EU...but now very expensive to send anything out of PT....US doesnt require import taxes but the sender pays through the nose. Since they have a PO Box...shipping them anything might be a problem as well.
@maryr7593 owe, and just to let you know about Customs & Immigration (they work for the same Department now), require somethings being shipped via shipping or Air depends on the Price, have to pay, pay, pay. I used to work with them.
I can see why she loved you so much. Such an intimate raw connection to losing a person who was your partner in life. I must say this, you are very articulate and well spoken. I think she is very proud of you for coming forth with your experience to share with us. You sell yourself short on communication skills, get on the computer and learn, if you need to figure out how to post. We don't need music, just you being real. I could go on and on about this, but I would like to say a few parse words. Just take your own time, if you tube income is important, just video what you are doing in a day, or not. No need for explanations, but if you want to express your sorrow, we will be here for you with a big heart. I loved what Sindy said often when chatting with us... "so that is that."
To add to this, some folks have used signs as a way to chat....like the ones that say, we chose this house, this one adopted us...and go forth to show all pic or vid of dog. Sooo few men show raw emotion so it is refreshing to see it actually. Never apologize for that...clearly in today's world we need more ppl expressing their raw emotion. Too much fakeness of fb and to some extent yt...you never see the more difficult moments.
If you have wildlife that visit your streams or whatever, filming some of their activities and posting it would be grand as wel...besides the pups. Life of a chicken? What is their day like? Your couch has missed you for two months....it definitely your embrace and snuggles. I understand the guilt of not getting up...but it hasnt even been a month yet! Embrace the couch and do what feels good to you...filming sleeping animals....my cat moans in her sleep, dreams...everything twitches, sometimes there is an odor in the air...where did that come from? A very relaxed kitty. Plenty of ways to film which dont involve you and dont bother to edit...break into pieces so you have something for following week...esp if income is a need. Otherwise most of us would just say...no need to worry about doing any content for as long as long as you need. Your animals need you as your couch too. Did they get to say goodbye to their momma? Did she get to say her goodbyes to them?

Dearest Dan, your thoughts are not ramblings to us. They are real and they are honest and they are healing. Make time every day to do that, while just sticking to the routine of your daily tasks, and the monthly, seasonal and yearly ones.
Pick up all the jobs that you and Sindy were busy with and finish them in her honor. Rethink all the dreams you had together and decide if some of them are still your dream as a single person. And revisit your dreams for this place that Sindy not necessarily shared with you, and start working on them too.
I pray for happiness for you too in this coming year with your boys and your girls with their watchful husband. Take joy in the little moments they provide for you.

I just recently got to you know you and Sindy and I am so very sorry to hear of her passing. Grief can be so very hard, especially in the beginning. One day at a time, one hour at at time, one minute if need be. And yes, nights are the hardest. I firmly believe though that she is still with you in spirit. Here is 2024. Dan I watched your ‘ramble’ and thought, ‘This man is very brave.’ Your plans, in their infancy still, make a lot of sense. (Start some work on the land, do some work with your friends, work on a format for the channel that works for you. Allow yourself to grieve.) But do give yourself a break. What has happened is a momentous part of life. Grieving comes in waves. Use your pragmatism, be with others when you need it, and take time to let yourself feel.
