I was looking at Garrisons online until I saw this video and bought one last Friday. No sticking, no nothing.. immediately put a hundred flawless rounds through it and I couldn't be happier!
My wife bought me one over the weekend to replace an old Springfield Armory 1911 I had to sell to make our bills during the faucidemic. I have seen nothing but positive reviews. Your video was topnotch. It was very entertaining and informative at the same time. Keep up the great videos. I have taken my Garrison out to the range a couple times and it has been flawless. I have put 5 different types a ammo through it and not only no jams but it is a very accurate 1911! I love it. My brother turned me into a 1911 fan and I have zero regrets with the Garrison. Well made very simplistic but beautiful at the same time.
My experience mimics yours with the sticking of the slide. After around 100 rounds she is smooth as butter, I initially got the blued version but was so impressed with the accuracy and the fit and finish that I went back and purchased the stainless as well
Did you notice any difference between the blued and stainless version? I have the stainless and it has been excellent since the first shot. Only a few trips to the range so far. But it functions extremely well.
Mine did the same thing sticking out of the box brand new….100+ rounds and a good cleaning and oil and it all went away. Thing runs like a top…100% reliable. The salt blue is gorgeous…hooah 👍
after cleaning i can see it is NOT the serial number. It does not tick untill after the slide passed the disconnector. I can see marking in the frame where the guide rod and spring did some digging n and when disassembled it still sticks. It appears the frame and slide are sticking when the slide comes to the rear. they are not fitted well. they will wear or i can polish.

Bought my 1911 Garison 45 ACP SS 2 months ago. Took it apart and cleaned it. Oiled it and put it back together. Now have about 700 rounds through it. NOT ONE ISSUE with it. Wow what a nice firearm!! Very accurate out the box. My other 1911 Springfield is a Range Officer compact 4in 9MM 5 years old. Also, flawless. I prefer caring my 1911 over my 2 XDm's and XDs. Then again, I am 70 plus with 20 years military. Old people don't like much change LOL.
I have a couple XD's and prefer them hands down over most other polymer pistol and way more than a glock. I carried at 1911 most of my military career and still carry a 1911 today. I whitetail hunt with a range office. Love it
Went and fired my new Garrison just the other day. Was surprised at how easy it was to control considering I was going from a 9mm striker fired compact to a full sized all metal .45 ACP. Is a dream to shoot, incredibly accurate and stable. Gonna be carrying it as my EDC from now on.
I just recently added one of these to my collection. I got the stainless version only because I thought it would wear better as I definitely plan on carrying it in my rotation of 1911s. I did add a full length wilson combat guide rod and as with every 1911 I own I carry wilson combat magazines. It runs flawlessly and is very accurate. I also like that it's a series 70.
It's definitely a handsome 1911. They came out few months after I had picked up a plain Jane SA Mil Spec. I kicked myself for a little bit, but plain Jane has been 100% reliable & it's kinda nice to get back to the basics. But yeah, that Garrison is quite a nice pistol, that still turns my head.
I've got one and it also gets stuck when you rack the slide even without a magazine in the tube. After shooting it for about 200 rounds however, it seems to have loosened up and doesn't get stuck anymore. And the good thing is that she'd had no hiccups so far and has been running well.
I have really enjoyed my Stainless Garrison. I do wish I felt comfortable doing a trigger job myself and making it a little better. I did replace the slide release in mine with a Wilson Combat bulletproof. I also purchased the Bul Armory 9mm 1911 today, have seen good things about them.

I just brought home a Garrison in stainless steel. I had that sticking issure for a bit, and then tore it down and used gun grease, along with oil on parts I couldn't directly get to. The gun not only functioned easier on every manual thing (moving the bushing to the side, racking, removing and replacing the slide stop, etc.) but I haven''t had the issue here. I have not shot it yet, but grease and oil went a long way.
This is exactly how I like my 1911s. Blued, no FCS, just the right enhancements. The Springfield Professional is my favorite pistol but I can't afford that one right now. So this is about just right for me.
Need to get me one of these. Just now diving into 1911’s and picked up a basic rock island 1911a1. Probably buy one of these and if I’m still liking them I’ll buy a higher end brand.

Thinking of getting my first 911. What is your opinion on what springfield tried to pull here in Illinois a few years ago. Should I consider one of their pistols?

What bothers me with the Springers nowdays is the thumb safeties feels like a sponge when in the "off" position. But guess all these things keeps the price point down.

Very Nice Sarge I like it and your right anyone wanting to get into a 1911 , this seems like a good choice just to grab a 1911 if u dont want to spend more $ on the custom stuff
I was thinking of getting a Springfield Operator but after seeing this video I gotta say I might save some money and get the Garrison, Thanks for showing us a nice 1911 that seems to get the job done even though it doesn't break the bank.
It just needs a break in Sarge. I owned a Series 70 Government Model Colt several years ago and regretted having to sell that pistol. When Springfield Armory released the Garrison on the market over a year ago I looked at it and thought WOW 🤩 here’s a traditional looking 1911 with the tweaks that I would make while keeping the look of a Government Model. As a mid tier 1911 I get the impression that overall the Garrison is a well put together QUALITY pistol. They were selling initially for 1,100-1,300 here at home when they first came out. I found one while visiting a friend on vacation in KY for 750. I bought that one in a New York second and made arrangements to ship it to my local FFL at home for the transfer/paperwork and will pick it up this weekend. I love the deep glossy blue finish and am really looking forward to the break in and loosening it up a little. Can’t wait to shoot this one. Thanks Sarge for the review. Be safe.
I opened it up, and the guide rod was really dragging bad on the frame. It's kind of like it was oversized. Sa des the guiderod some and now it runs like a champ. Thanks for
That sticking is probably the disconnector against the bottom of the breach face. I have 4 Loadeds and 3 Garrisons and they almost all do that out of the box where they don’t want to slip over that disconnector.
As I recall Springfield’s 1911 are forged receivers & slides. A good thing for wear & tear. It is my hope that there are no MIM parts. It should be noted your knowledge on 1911s is very good. Thank you for your videos. 👍😊🇺🇸
You are 100% correct, they are forged. Thank you for your comment. I was trained by the Army 40+ Years ago and have been collecting and building 1911's for many years. Thank you for watching
@Dale Ross I own several 1911s. My Ruger S/S shattered the front sight with less than 1000 rounds. Ruger replaced same. I was advised that the front sight was a MIM part. Having carried a 1911 for many years in my government job I had no issues with my 1911s. However, they we’re no MIM parts in same. 👍😊🇺🇸
@Dale Ross Thank you for your response back. Good info. My Les Baer has no issues & 1911s my son built for me have no issues. Having used 1911s in fire fights I never saw a failure from mine or other colleagues. They are a fine piece of equipment!👎😊🇺🇸
They’ve made the enhancements with the match grade barrel and bushing in the right places Sarge. The Novak style sights, slide serrations that mirror the grip angle and the enlarged hammer safety. Yet it maintains the appearance of a Series 70 Government Model. What’s not to like. When I first saw the Garrison a bit over a year ago I fell in love with it. It has the look and feel of a good quality pistol ( mid tier) without the 3,000 dollar price tag of a Wilson Combat. Just like the Mossberg 590SP that I bought new that 1911 will break in nice and be buttery smooth with a break in of 300-500 rounds. Watch and see if she doesn’t get as smooth as oiled silk. It’s obviously a good quality pistol. An heirloom gun that gets passed on.
The stainless steel garrison I looked at in the gun shop was sticking open like that one, and racking the slide was rough also. But I looked at it again a month later and it seemed to be a little smoother. The grips and bushings would have to be replaced with standard grips and bushings. I would definitely want to replace the hammer with a Wilson combat stainless steel retro commander hammer, but that's just what I like.
After cleaning I can clearing see the guide rod had been hanging up in the slide as well as the slide and frame wearing against each other. It is NOT the serial number dragging on the disconnector as some have suggested. It MAY be on some, but this pistol completely sticks when all the way back, past the disconnector. Shoot it. That will fix it. the shop could have done a better job. Thanks for commenting. Now you can buy the stainless model. Thanks for watching
Great review…thanks for sharing. I don’t own a 1911 yet but looking to add one to the stable. Only other 45 ACP that I have is a Ruger P90 that I picked up years ago. Don’t want to spend a lot but don’t want a budget gun either. Liked and subscribed 👍 Hooah
Every gun enthusiast in America should have at least one 1911. The weapon has been defending our country for over 100 years. All things considered, in the end it is still the finest handgun ever produced.
Yep mine also was doing the same thing it needed to be broken in a little bit i actually needed a brushing wrench to takedown mine but it all loosen up over time 💪👍
Having watched almost to the end, and seeing the problems you've run into, I believe Springfield Armory has a QA problem that they have to address on 1911 production. Because of your experience and realization of what is likely going on, you aren't alarmed or overly concerned about correcting these details. They aren't daunting to you. But Springfield should be very concerned about the average buyer and gun owner. You ain't him! And he might (probably) doesn't know you are on TH-cam, to learn from. Most people won't know that just running the gun will clear up most problems of dependability. I have two Croatian creations from Springfield Armory: my favorite, the XDm 4.5 in .45acp, which has been flawless and is a peach to shoot AND very accurate; and my Hellcat OSP. The Hellcat trigger has an engineering flaw, in that the hinge point of the trigger safety is not high enough from the bottom of the trigger, allowing the trigger to be pulled enough aft before the safety lever clears its lock, and the result is that the trigger is locked rock solid. The trigger safety works!!!!!! In the event of a life-threatening situation, your assailant will be safe! Condolences to your family. The Apex trigger upgrade solves the problem. (I'll be glad to go into detail for anybody interested) Both of the XD guns (the Hellcat is really just a baby of...), included a test-target. It only serves to let you know the gun shoots repeated rounds and an MOA. I'm thinking that the USA manufactured 1911s should also go through some firing before being boxed. I'd buy a Springfield in a heartbeat if I had the cash and inclination. The Sarge puts things in perspective, if viewers pay attention. This is all just my opinion of course, but is based on my experience. Thanks again for a learning video.
I would say YES. However, not by a mile, just slightly. You will notice it in the price difference above other qualities. Then you move the Loaded Operator.
The more I see these 1911s the more im liking them that looks like that would be fun to shot that would be a nice working man's Cadillac peace 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

SGT 1911, great video as always. I have been considering swapping to a 1911 for carry. What do you recommend? If you have a video of your carry gun of choice, I'd be very interesting in checking it out.
I have carried a Colt Comander for years recently moved to a Sig Nightmare. I have carried a Nighthawk the last month or so. I did order a Ed Brown Kobra Carry. All in 45 acp. Occasionally I carry a XDs or a Shadow Systems if I plan to get dirty. All if there have videos, except the Ed Brown which I have nor gotten yet. Thanks for watching

Excatly Eddie. Hope you are well and thanks for watching
Would you take this over a full-sized Ruger SR1911?
Yes, probably. I really like the Garrison
I was thinking of getting a Springfield Operator but after seeing this video I gotta say I might save some money and get the Garrison, Thanks for showing us a nice 1911 that seems to get the job done even though it doesn't break the bank.

I like my springfield. Thanks for the Input and thanks for watching
It is a nice 1911 for someone just wanting a more basic traditional style 1911. A great review as always!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for
I’ll keep an eye out for that Sarge. I’m picking mine up today. Take care Sarge and enjoy the day. 👍🫡🇺🇸⚓️USN. Vietnam era.
Hooah
That sticking is probably the disconnector against the bottom of the breach face. I have 4 Loadeds and 3 Garrisons and they almost all do that out of the box where they don’t want to slip over that disconnector.
Nope it was the guide rod dragging in the frame. I sanded it and all is well. Thanks for watching
A great review Sarge. I really like that .45… and I wouldn’t ever want you shooting at me, lol! Thanks, man.
Keep ‘em comin’

You are 100% correct, they are forged. Thank you for your comment. I was trained by the Army 40+ Years ago and have been collecting and building 1911's for many years. Thank you for watching

@Dale Ross I own several 1911s.
My Ruger S/S shattered the front
sight with less than 1000 rounds.
Ruger replaced same. I was
advised that the front sight
was a MIM part. Having carried
a 1911 for many years in my
government job I had no issues
with my 1911s. However, they
we’re no MIM parts in same. 👍😊🇺🇸

@@SGT1911 did you ever get yours to stop binding, mine is doing it now
@@irelandssons No, I have not. I did clean it and see where the guide rod send during had jammed up. Sldo my slide and frame are not fitting
The guide rod was really digging into the frame. scared the frame bad. i sanded it smooth and it nice now
The stainless steel garrison I looked at in the gun shop was sticking open like that one, and racking the slide was rough also.

(I'll be glad to go into detail for anybody interested)
Both of the XD guns (the Hellcat is really just a baby of...), included a test-target.
JR. I also have a couple of XD'S and they are rock solid pistols. They are far superior to any glock. Thanks for the comment and shoot safe
Sgt is the springfield operator really a step above the Garrison?
I would say YES. However, not by a mile, just slightly. You will notice it in the price difference above other qualities. Then you move the Loaded Operator.
