a lot of people say that this episode would have done better if it was a two parter if it was 2 parts there would be a lot more time to establish things going on in the location and to actually connect with the characters introduced i like this episode but it would be so much better if it got the chance to tell its story at a better pace
I also had this episode as my least favourite avatar episode right next to the great divide, but this episode annoys me more because it was rushed as shown by the later prison episodes of boiling rock. The tone was all over the place. A subjegated town is being shown and then a momo joke. Kataras character decisions were exaggerated to fit the fast plot. The earth bender guy is the most forgettable side character for me personally. And the payoff was too weak, random prisoners we don't know stand up to the guards thanks to a speech.

True, we needed more time with especially haru but also his father in prison since he doesn’t have much to work with either

100% agree. Definitely a an early miss from the writers. The tone is especially inconsistent as you pointed out. A skip for me on rewatch ngl
