I used to like him before his bs rant on Obama. He's a hypocrite. Where was that philosophy when he spent a year with Cornell West going around America bashing the brother, knowing FULL WELL the obstacles he had in front of him. Tavis and West were publicly disagreeable for years. He was full of shit then and he's full of shit now.

      2. Had he nominated a black female judge as opposed to nominating Merrick Garland..Mitch McConnell would not have held up the nomination because it woulda been politically disastrous for him to attempt to do so. The consequences of this led to the current makeup of a conservative Supreme Court

This is the missing component to African Americans political understanding. We don't have an agenda to present to an elected official(Republican or Democrat) that we want fulfilled if they want our vote/finances. And then we hold them accountable if the they want our continued support/finances. Tavis had the right idea, but the powers that be within our community cancelled him from the spotlight because he dared questioned our 1st Black president. That Obama won 2 terms is a miracle. That he wasn't assassinated is a miracle. Honestly, there wasn't much Obama could do. Look at the Senate: Mostly old white men who have been there for decades and they're not moving. That's why IMO if Kamala becomes president, she doesn't have a chance to get any legislation passed. The Old white guys won't allow it.

@@Chicago48 You have to try regardless. The way we know what you stand for. If we think that way, we could could say why should we vote for him, he’ll never win the presidency, he’s Black. He overcame those odds, so who knows what he could have accomplished if she held his feet to the fire. Unfortunately we can’t name substantial bills or programs that he tried to pass for African Americans. I’m a native of Chicago. 10 minutes away from his home. I’ve seen it get worse since he’s been in office. He was on the ground in our community and knows what’s needed. Nothing was done to improve the condition. Nothing wrong with being critical of our political leaders. But we’ve seen our activist, Evers, Malcolm, Martin and give their lives for the betterment of our people, and for generations there’s been little improvement. Obama did his part, in a system that was designed to keep him out. Not a person in this comment section including Tavis, had to deal with the personal threats to him and his family, as well as tryin to run this country. Sadly I see this younger generation throwing our elders under the bus because they may have fallen short...or sold out.
The government, and special interest got trillions to make you sell out, or delete you, facts. So, Obama gets a pass in my book, because he was the first, and those inspired enough to follow in his footsteps will do so. Or, simply critique in the safety of your homes, like myself, or television and internet platforms like Tavis and millions of others.

That comment alone helped Clinton to ingratiate himself to the black community all the while instilling more racist practices again the black community. With the advantage of time, Tavis makes a better case for presenting his criticisms of Obama.....but that's definitely not how he came off at the time. There was always a very histrionic "truth giver" component in his critiques of Obama which are still quite evident in this interview. The line that particularly struck me here was "I don't hate Barrack Obama, I just love my people." Substitute the name "Barrack Obama" with "Black People" in that sentence and you get the exact same line the modern Klan routinely uses to obscure their intense hatred of those very people. They say, "we don't hate Black people, we just love our White people. It really doesn't take a psychiatrist to see through his skillful verbally camouflaged disdain for Obama, though he realizes he has to temper that to avoid losing further standing in the Black community. He claims to love Obama but just look in his eyes...he's barely able to contain his loathing under the surface.

I did not care for LeBron James but he put his money where his mouth was in the voting rights and help to get so many of the other teams involved and he didn't just kick back and not do nothing because he had money and that made me and lots of other people look up to him because he is someone that is a caring person for his people and not just thinking about himself he is helping not setting back and complaining about what other people are doing Obama is not the only black that Travis thought had problems but I don't see any fruits of his work he had dislikes for other black leaders so God knows his heart and God knows my heart so let him be the judge.

@bryantturner97: Disdain, huh? Personally, I always sensed that Barack Obama himself, like many of those he spent his life running with at private school and in the Democratic machine held black people outside of his immediate circle in deep contempt. He seemed like the typical immigrant, unable to see or cope with Americas flaws and quick to blame America's dysfunctions on black people "not rising to the occasion..." whatever that means...His facial expressions, body language, and most importantly, words and deeds all reflected that disdain and disinterest whenever he was pressed on black issues or on racial issues. Contrast that to his responses to other constituents like the cops, wallstreet, or Israel...Not once did he tell ANY them to "lower their expectations..." So much for being the President of everyone...Just another Dem owed black votes in perpetuity for the civil rights acts that they refuse to defend against the excesses of the extremists in BOTH parties..Many black people were just so grateful to have someone who looked like them "in power" proving that "we finally made it" that they were, and unfortunately, remain blind to that man's real nature and to his agenda, an agenda which ALWAYS placed the interests and well being of black people dead last when they were considered at all. I never voted for him or for the so called opposition, and time has proven that my decision was correct. The Obama years proved once and for all that outside of SOME, local elections that there are no solutions to the anti-black nature of the system within the system itself. Thanks to interchangeable state, we will still be fighting the very same fights over the same issues 100 years from now and calling it progress ONLY because the technology will have changed...

I have to be in the minority here. I disagree with Tavis in that WE have to utilize what we already have to get farther. Under Obama, unemployment was reduced so that everybody, including Black people could go out and seek jobs. I have several millionaire Black friends that became millionaires by hard work and with utilizing what we had instead of waiting on what one man was going to do for us. That is a slave mentality of constantly waiting on what massa is going to hand out. We have fought for better schools, funding for businesses, professional jobs, etc. When we decided to work hard to overcome all of the obstacles that we have had, we have succeeded and continue to succeed. No the playing ground is not level, yes there is racism, yes there are bad cops, yes there is still poverty. But at some point we have to do our part to make our dreams a reality and stop waiting on someone else to do it for us. • @setaylw

@@j-short5431 I will name a few that come to mind. Under the American Recovery and reinvestment act of 2009 there was education, Healthcare, infrastructure, and renewable energy that were all addressed. This helped Bkack folk in each arena addressed and also created decreased unemployment for black people. Additionally there was Medicaid expansion which helped people with health care and an unprecedented High School graduation rate among black youth. Obama also added 85 million dollars in funding to hbcu's. His initiative called My Brother's Keeper in 2014 sought to narrow opportunity gaps between young men of color and their white counterparts. This also provided grant funding opportunities to establish mentorship and other programs focused on early childhood development. President's task force on 21st century policing also urged independent investigations of police killings. There was also a decreased incarceration rate during his presidency of black males. In addition to this the mere fact that he was the 1st Black President gave more ambition to Black folks to want to accomplish more. I for one went back to school as he provided an incentive through his example of what could be done.

Man, as a black man in America, I understand both Obama and Smiley. Smiley had very strong points about Obama and Obama couldn’t do more because he didn’t want to bite the GOP racial bait. They were just waiting on him to come out strong so they could start the name calling (black panther, black terrorist, Muslim terrorist, anti-white agenda prez, etc). So Obama assessed the risks on both sides and figured his people (minority groups) would be more forgiving than the 30% white population who helped get him elected;twice!
The guy found himself between a rock of the GOP and a hard place of minority interest groups. He figured the rock was just way too unbreakable and something’s gotta give.
I know it’s messed up but it’s the truth. Don’t get discouraged, people. Keep on going to the polls and holding them, all of them, accountable.

Obama really wanted to intervene but the fact, on national tv, had the people who are suppose to work with him said they're intention is to make him a one term pres pretty much laid out his game. That's why all the political talk in the world is irrevent to me in his situation, and the fact were we are now is a backlash he faced.
