Tavis has always had a deeper understanding of how it really works. At that time he was hated by so many in the black community it was sad. Tavis is solid and he stands firm on the facts. I’ll always respect that !
Tavis told the truth. Obama had no Black agenda. He had agendas for gay, immigrants, etc. but the only time he spoke up for a black person was when they were shot dead.
Hate may be 'orchestrated' by deceitful lies of the antichrists....if you hear anything bad about anyone, even a person of good character, be sure to first ask: 'who, what, when, where, why, who told you that and how' or you may be misled by the antichrists into developing hardness of heart against others.
The only problem I have with tavis is the way he stereotypes all black families based on the crime in the inner cities .....like there's no upscale black communities with minimal crime .....the reason I know is I've never lived in a high crime black area ....and he probably hasnt either .....there are also high crime white inner cities .....Latino ....and even Asian ....but everybody who lives in these areas aren't criminals ......some live where they do because they don't have the credentials to live elsewhere.

This is the missing component to African Americans political understanding. Barack Obama thought he could make change when he went to the White House. But he ran into a big brick wall of white (bigoted) pols, who just didn't want him to succeed. That Obama won 2 terms is a miracle. That he wasn't assassinated is a miracle. Honestly, there wasn't much Obama could do. That comment alone helped Clinton to ingratiate himself to the black community all the while instilling more racist practices again the black community. This can be seen by not only the bills that were passed during the Clinton years but also by looking at who Clinton pardoned or should I say Clinton’s blatant racism in doling out pardons.

Man, as a black man in America, I understand both Obama and Smiley. Smiley had very strong points about Obama and Obama couldn’t do more because he didn’t want to bite the GOP racial bait. They were just waiting on him to come out strong so they could start the name calling (black panther, black terrorist, Muslim terrorist, anti-white agenda prez, etc). So Obama assessed the risks on both sides and figured his people (minority groups) would be more forgiving than the 30% white population who helped get him elected;twice! The guy found himself between a rock of the GOP and a hard place of minority interest groups. He figured the rock was just way too unbreakable and something’s gotta give. I know it’s messed up but it’s the truth. Don’t get discouraged, people. Keep on going to the polls and holding them, all of them, accountable.
Extreamly accurate depection of geopolitics within america. It really was a game of precential and what could give him a liveable legacy; he was all but abandon by most of the dems. Obama really wanted to intervene but the fact, on national tv, had the people who are suppose to work with him said they're intention is to make him a one term pres pretty much laid out his game. That's why all the political talk in the world is irrevent to me in his situation, and the fact were we are now is a backlash he faced.
With the advantage of time, Tavis makes a better case for presenting his criticisms of Obama.....but that's definitely not how he came off at the time. There was always a very histrionic "truth giver" component in his critiques of Obama which are still quite evident in this interview. The line that particularly struck me here was "I don't hate Barrack Obama, I just love my people." Substitute the name "Barrack Obama" with "Black People" in that sentence and you get the exact same line the modern Klan routinely uses to obscure their intense hatred of those very people. They say, "we don't hate Black people, we just love our White people. It really doesn't take a psychiatrist to see through his skillful verbally camouflaged disdain for Obama, though he realizes he has to temper that to avoid losing further standing in the Black community. He claims to love Obama but just look in his eyes...he's barely able to contain his loathing under the surface.
Yes everyone know that Tavis hates Obama why no one knows and he never did one thing to help Obama he sit back and tried to have meetings with Obama and tell him what to do but he didn't campaign for or showed no help for Obama when he was running for president and like I said the black women is who work the position of helping in politics I was surprised to know people like super dog, Shaq, fifty cent and I could go on and on but it is to many to name didn't vote and some of them said they had never voted and it was because they had money and they didn't think nothing of the rest of the black people but we thought for sure they would vote for the first black president but they didn't and then some of them wanted Obama to be the president to the black people only all of the brothers who are agreeing with Travis probably didn't even vote because they are the ones that always want someone to do something for them and every sense slavery the black woman have always been the backbone of helping the black man and when one bite the bullet they want him too look out for them. I did not care for LeBron James but he put his money where his mouth was in the voting rights and help to get so many of the other teams involved and he didn't just kick back and not do nothing because he had money and that made me and lots of other people look up to him because he is someone that is a caring person for his people and not just thinking about himself he is helping not setting back and complaining about what other people are doing Obama is not the only black that Travis thought had problems but I don't see any fruits of his work he had dislikes for other black leaders so God knows his heart and God knows my heart so let him be the judge.
@bryantturner97: Disdain, huh? Personally, I always sensed that Barack Obama himself, like many of those he spent his life running with at private school and in the Democratic machine held black people outside of his immediate circle in deep contempt. He seemed like the typical immigrant, unable to see or cope with Americas flaws and quick to blame America's dysfunctions on black people "not rising to the occasion..." whatever that means...His facial expressions, body language, and most importantly, words and deeds all reflected that disdain and disinterest whenever he was pressed on black issues or on racial issues. Contrast that to his responses to other constituents like the cops, wallstreet, or Israel...Not once did he tell ANY them to "lower their expectations..." So much for being the President of everyone...Just another Dem owed black votes in perpetuity for the civil rights acts that they refuse to defend against the excesses of the extremists in BOTH parties..Many black people were just so grateful to have someone who looked like them "in power" proving that "we finally made it" that they were, and unfortunately, remain blind to that man's real nature and to his agenda, an agenda which ALWAYS placed the interests and well being of black people dead last when they were considered at all. I never voted for him or for the so called opposition, and time has proven that my decision was correct. The Obama years proved once and for all that outside of SOME, local elections that there are no solutions to the anti-black nature of the system within the system itself. Thanks to interchangeable state, we will still be fighting the very same fights over the same issues 100 years from now and calling it progress ONLY because the technology will have changed...
So basically Obama is more important than the entity of Black people. FOH! I will always prioritize my people over a politician. Btw refute what he said about Black Americans under Barrack Obama’s presidency. You nitpick at that statement cause you can’t dismiss the actual criticisms he had against Obama.
Sadly, I voted for Obama twice and was greatly disappointed because i did not benefit from his presidency. I vote different now. No more symbolism but substance.
Indeed, I come from a generation, @ one time couldn't even go to the same Restroom/Restaurant . We have come a long way. I am so proud of most of our people. 💜🙏🏾🤲🏽,
Tavis always fought for the plight of our people and he forever will! I truly stand in his honor for that! But the presidential position is not the head of the American empire, In 1936 John D Rockefeller while on trial said something to the effect of what the president’s position really was ! It’s just an HONORARY POSITION… no president will ever get to advocate every constituency he took an public oath to carry out its just that simple…. We as black Americans have to own our OWN !! Get that!!
Tavis has a lot of people fooled! Supported Obama from the time he got elected and understood what he was up against as the first black president. If he tried to be that "Yo' Brother in Chief," Kamala would not be where she is today, nor would you see a black chief of staff, nor would you see a black supreme court justice, nor would you see a black White House Spokesperson. Something to think about.
This narrative is getting old. Obama spent his entire presidency trying to appease Republicans. He went as far as proposing to cut social security and Medicare just to try to get Republicans to vote on a tiny and unconsequential tax increase on the wealthy. It only felt through cause Republicans turnef it down. Remember that Obama had said multiple times that cutting social security and Medicare was a Nono but he was willing to reneg on his promises just so he can say "see, I told you I was gonna get some bypartisan things done" the same pathological centrist nonsense Biden was pushing at the beginning of hie presidency. The extremism of the Republican Party has exposed the centrist grift. Being a centrist now means wanting to stay ideologically close to the insane far right cult the Republican Party is which is not a defensible position if you claim to support democracy and minorities, poor people… like centrist claim. The reality is they don’t and they rather stay in the center ie the closest to the far right to protect what they care about the most, corporate interest and Capitalism, rather than letting anybody the left in charge and rock their ultra Capitalist boat
No other voting bloc besides Black Americans vote for a candidate at a 93 and 95 rate and expect not to be a priority. Every constituency Obama took a public oath to serve didn't vote for him at nearly the rate that Blacks did, yet the others gained far more from his presidency because he made their issues a priority. Black Americans/ADOS are the shoes that America wears to get to it's destination and discarded shortly thereafter. Also, the "get it on our own" mantra is one that is not reflective of any group's collectively. We built this nation for free, so we shouldn't have to go out and get something else on our own. We're OWED.
I agree with most of Mr. Smiley's statements. However the "Caucasian Jews, Wall Street, & the Gay community invested in Barack Obama's campaign over $1milion each. We're as the black community JUST VOTED. Yes their Was some blacks invested but most was " black celebrities. For there own reasons. It's more then just voting.
Lmao You're a 1000% right that's what it's all about. They are gonna help the people that really really got them elected and donated to them. What can the homeless people do for a president. They don't need their vote. It's like Jim Jones back in 1978. Heat tap into the minds of those poor black souls and Told them what they wanna hear and what they wanna see. Health care for everyone. Everybody can afford health care. I'm going to fix the homeless problem yeah right when. I'm going to secure the border. Not if you're a Democrat you're not.
Nothing wrong with being critical of our political leaders. But we’ve seen our activist, Evers, Malcolm, Martin and give their lives for the betterment of our people, and for generations there’s been little improvement. Obama did his part, in a system that was designed to keep him out. Not a person in this comment section including Tavis, had to deal with the personal threats to him and his family, as well as tryin to run this country. Sadly I see this younger generation throwing our elders under the bus because they may have fallen short...or sold out. The government, and special interest got trillions to make you sell out, or delete you, facts. So, Obama gets a pass in my book, because he was the first, and those inspired enough to follow in his footsteps will do so. Or, simply critique in the safety of your homes, like myself, or television and internet platforms like Tavis and millions of others.
A very good interview.. I had absolutely NO problem with how Tavis and several others held Obama accountable.

1. As opposed to bailing out both the banks and automakers he could’ve bailed out homeowners many of which were black folks..Many of which lost their homes.
2. Had he nominated a black female judge as opposed to nominating Merrick Garland..Mitch McConnell would not have held up the nomination because it woulda been politically disastrous for him to attempt to do so. The consequences of this led to the current makeup of a conservative Supreme Court
3. He shoulda did more to push for Prison and Criminal Justice Reform..He had the ability to do so but he deferred thinking that Hilary Clinton would if she got elected..I could go further like publicly denouncing reparations for the descendants of slavery despite being the first black POTUS..
Facts don’t lie
A LIAR will NEVER have a deeper understanding of anything if he can't face himself or herself with TRUTH & HONESTY! Until you can look in mirror and honestly say....I'm the cause, you will never accept the truth about anything!

This is the missing component to African Americans political understanding. We don't have an agenda to present to an elected official(Republican or Democrat) that we want fulfilled if they want our vote/finances. And then we hold them accountable if the they want our continued support/finances. Tavis had the right idea, but the powers that be within our community cancelled him from the spotlight because he dared questioned our 1st Black president. We'll see if we learned the lesson yet on this next political cycle! Great dialogue!

The Old white guys won't allow it.

I was waiting for him to explain how the black race lost ground economically under Obama? And when did we gain ground economically before Obama for us to lose ground during his tenure????
Well before the 60s their were more black owned businesses and lower unemployment numbers verses whites before they started the minimum wages actually minimum wage policy had a very horrible affect on blacks that’s when their unemployment went up in numbers their was also black Wall Street but under Barack we were in a recession majority of his terms but the U S has the most black millionaires with entertainment music sports and more and that was on the rise before he was elected I believe that played a big part in him getting elected because are country was on the track of uniting

Al was correct. I would liken it to Dave Chappell realizing that certain people weren’t laughing with but at. That comment alone helped Clinton to ingratiate himself to the black community all the while instilling more racist practices again the black community. This can be seen by not only the bills that were passed during the Clinton years but also by looking at who Clinton pardoned or should I say Clinton’s blatant racism in doling out pardons.
Clinton gave jobs to blacks in his administration, but did nothing for the black community as a whole. Clinton preserved Affirmative Action...but big deal. In the dot com boom if you had a college degree you would've gotten a job anyway. There were unfilled jobs at the height of the dot com boom.

I'm not sure he's loathing, but he is definitely telling the truth overall. 🤔 🧐
It requires a high measure of maturity, restraint and humiliation, to receive his message... There were no evidence of hypocrisy in his pronouncements
So basically Obama is more important than the entity of Black people. FOH! I will always prioritize my people over a politician.
