Family has been in Hicksville since the 50s. NY state intentionally destroyed the downtown in the 1960s when they widened rte 107. It was a walkable main street prior to that (from what I see in photos), but after the change the downtown was never the same. Time to densify the area immediately surrounding the LIRR station. Did you see all that land dedicated to parking? I'm not anti-car but there is a balance.
The suburban lifestyle just isn't realistic for the trajectory of population. We need buildings to have more than 4 floors to make the most efficient use of real estate. Sure the senior citizens are resistant to that but we should focus on how we move forward for the sake of the younger generations, whom it will have the biggest consequence.

Used to catch the train to MSG for Dead shows in the late 70's and now you can't walk around at night!? Sad
