I love the "push down" on the puck comment---I hold my bottom hand tight, hit behind the puck on the ice, and still it seems to not get full power--pushing down, hard, at that instant is the trick for me...thanks

Let us know how your slap shot is coming along. The key is to push down with your bottom hand on your shaft. Try taking a little more ice behind the puck (similar to a golf divot), 2-3 inches behind the puck, this will allow your stick to flex a little more. Also try to make contact with your stick blade cupped and on the heel to middle area of your blade, avoid shooting off the toe of your blade and with an open stick blade.

Great explanation, question…four years later would you change anything?

Great question. I think technically most of the fundamentals remain the same. The progression to this would be to add movement to the puck with pull or pushes. Pulls would be starting the puck outside your shooting box and pulling it in when releasing either by pulling it with the toe of your blade or by adding a stick handle before shooting. Pushes would be starting the puck close to the body and pushing the puck to the forehand side with or without a stick handle, its important to move your feet in that direction as well when releasing the shot in order to generate more power.
