Today my wife went into hospital to have major surgery, one to enable us to have children. We listened to the new album on our hour drive to the hospital in silence, just in awe and with emotion about what was in front of us. We felt that in some way this album being released on such a huge day for us was a sign. After all, his music has been with us for every key moment of our lives. The surgery was a success. If we have a boy, he will be called Dallas.

I've been listening to a lot of your older music for years now. It's stuff that I picked up around high school, and played on repeat all the time while drawing. Mostly the Bring Me Your Love album, but also a good bit of Sometimes and Little Hell. A lot of those songs are still ones that inspire me to create, with Against the Grain and What Makes a Man? being two of my particular favorites. I've never had a very good memory for music, as much as I enjoy it. I don't really retain lyrics well, and I often need to be listening to at least the melody to recall lyrics well. I don't even remember song titles or artist names well, unfortunately. I just remember songs that I like, and I keep returning to them over and over again in my playlists. Your songs have always had such a provocative atmosphere that stands out to me though. They're relaxing, soft, melodic, and the lyrics resonate when I listen. I honestly never thought to look into your newer music much, and I've found myself doing that with a lot of artists I enjoy. I find 1, maybe 2 or 3, of their albums, get comfy with them, and hold onto those and just don't even consider looking for more. Not really sure why, and it's something I've been trying to break out from so I can give a chance to newer pieces from the artists I love and appreciate. I was reading an article this morning about you discussing this newest album, and what it all meant to you, and how your voice has changed and how that's affected your music. I hate to admit that I was nervous to come looking for your new songs because of that, because I wanted to fall in love with your new music like I had with your old and wasn't sure if I would. Which is a selfish thought, but was there all the same. But I'm loving this already. This is the first song I've listened to of your newer work, and it's so clearly yours, in all of the best ways. It's different, but it's the same in ways I really can't explain. And I'm just finding myself glad to get to listen to it, and to see how your work hasn't only stayed wonderful but has improved as you've grown as an artist. I'm so glad that you're still creating and sharing your work. I wish I'd gone looking for more of it sooner. Even if your work had changed more drastically, it still would've been wonderful just to get to see How it's changed.
