I was a stand up surfer. I'm 56 and now have cartilage breakdown in my hip. I can't pop myself up to stand anymore. Haven't surfed in years and miss it. I gotta get back in the water. I'm still mobile. So went out and got suit, board, and fins. I'm a bodyboarder now. Thanks for the tips and age inspiration.

I started bodyboarding 6 months ago. Age 71. I feel alive every time I'm out there. Plus I swim three times a week and two mornings at the gym. I know I'm eventually going to die , but I want to die Healthy!!

Thanks for this :) I'm 46, and have just moved to be closer to the ocean to take up bodyboarding/surfing again, as a healthy pattern I would like to keep going as I get older (I'm a work from home on the computer guy so the forces keeping me in my seat are strong, and I need to break that).
Loved hearing about what you guys are doing to keep fit, and I agree- moving everyday is likely to be the most important thing. Inspiring stuff!

    Happy birthday Jay ‼️
This is awesome, both of you, thanks for sharing this valuable information 😊 Very valuable for all of us who strive to keep on doing what we live for.
Personally, at almost 58, I exercise every morning before breakfast (after coffee) by doing a floor and stick mobility workout. This brings the body up to speed for the day ahead.
I'd love to surf more often, but surfski , MTB, and another body weight workout also occupy my energy 😀
Whenever possible, i climb stairs instead of taking the elevator and walk my two beasts (dogs), at least 4 times a week, which on its own, is quite a workout!
As for food, a great breakfast and lunch set me up for a light dinner of a lot of vegetables, and high quality protein.
    Last but not last, hydration!

Great tips. I became a morning person too (after many years of being a night owl) for exactly the same reasons - I discovered that I can sneak a surf/boogie in before work. My wife is still asleep, so it is untapped bonus time that comes at the minimal cost of dragging myself out of bed. I get to see the sunrise, get in some water time, and crowds are minimal if not non-existent. It sets my mood and motivation for the rest of the day because I’ve already had my “me time”. Well worth it!

Happy belated birthday, Jay🎉 Thanks to you and your lovely wife, Vicky, for the healthy advice. I am a skater and jumped into surfing a few years ago. Hoping to learn standup boogie boarding with coach, Brian, eventually. Have a blessed day!

45 year old sponger / train 3 /4 days a week switching in between upper and lower body, reps of 20 daily, 5 sets to 100 of each exercise / crunches / leg raises / pushups / pullups / hd band pulls / 30/40 pound dumbbell curls, weak arm does a few extra to failure / proper balanced diet and supplements. swimming olympic laps with fins on and breath work. 30 mile road bike rides flat out, fasting, meditation, decaf coffee, caffeine free = 3x overhead cloudbreak, 3x overhead mentawai slab hunting. i got chopes 3x overhead too. my dreams are mosts nightmares. being sober, drug free and cigarette free is ideal for my equilibrium balance and mindset. if i could look back and say the one thing that did it for me, i think training at maxed out blacks beach is what made me ready to conquer life and become a hard charging sponger. i love the wedge but its just not the same anymore not like the early 90s plus the grom pack is maxed out. hope i can still be traveling and charging into my late 50s too.

No sushi, no poke? OMG! I eat it more for the flavor than for the health benefit. It's so gooood! I grew up on processed food too. I let my wife guide me to the light. Though, I still like my cookies and a little bit of ice cream. I'm 65 and I was in your store last week. Josh helped put a kit together so I could get back in the water after 15 - 20 years. Nice video. Oh, and yes their is knee pain and back pain haunting me.

I (Jay) don't eat much seafood at all, and definitely not sushi/sashimi.
Stoked to hear you're getting after it. Incorporate some stretching. It's helped me a lot!

Florida is a horror for outdoors from the end of May through October. Running and walking is best done 4-7 am. We also have the summer wave drought. A summer hideaway in Oregon might not be so bad.

I live between Hawaii & SoCal now and have been surfing forever, but looking into body boarding instead of investing in another foam deck (i.e. Beater Board)… At any rate, I recently ruptured my long head tendon in my right shoulder/bicep (PT has been going well), but does it matter which arm your leash plug/cuff is placed?
Mahalo for the all the insight into your daily regimen 🤙🏽

You can put the leash on either arm...just personal preference. If you need advice on boards, just fill this out:
