its very common you just shut it down at middle throttle and start it at low throttle and that should solve it. Only start it at full throttle when cold if the throttle and choke are in one lever. Please pm me if you have any more questions i work on these engines a lot.
My Rider has the same motor used in this video which is helpful. Its a crop duster. I adjusted the valves and now and I'm going to replace the head gasket. Thanks for the DYI video. I used some seafoam in the gas and oil and it stopped smoking for like a day or two then started back up again. I also check the crankcase breather to see if that was working as well.
Question-I have to replace the valve cover gasket on my OHV Kohler engine. When you unbolted the cover, was there much/any oil leakage? Do I need to drain the oil first? Thanks-great vid.
I think mine is blown on the older version of this same motor. Mine smokes tons of black smoke, and it appears that exhasut is comming out of the head. Did you replace the valve cover gasket as well?
Hi, i have a briggs and stratton 26hp v-twin and it is leaking oil. It appears that it is leaking around the muffler but im not 100% sure. Do you have any ideas as to what the problem is?
i dont know if you can help me i have tha same trackto star ok but whent i try to put the blade to cut the grass the tractor die i dont have idea what to look for i hope you can gime a tip or something thanks
What could be causing the white/blue smoke from the engine? Blue or white smoke coming from your engine usually indicates burning oil, which can be caused by: Overfilling the crankcase with oil Incorrect oil grades Operating engine at greater than a 15 degree angle Inoperative crankcase breather Crankcase air leak Blown head gasket Worn cylinder and/or rings Turning/tilting the engine on its side for storage, oil change or any other reason.
GREAT video! I'm curious though....... how did you know it was a blown head gasket causing the problem..... and not worn piston rings? I wonder if bad valve guides could also cause oil burning in an OHV engine.
+jamesus12345 - As long you remove the " Head " correctly.... There is nothing to adjust! But rule of thumb, once you go this route... You want to " Resurface " the Head and " Adjust " the Lifters!
Hey i got the same engine and when i mowe grass engine works steady, or i say evenly but when i park it my engine works not evenly, any ideas whats wrong? I cleaned carburator, same thing,
Thanks for the reply. I was able to change it easily with just a drop or two of leakage.
Good video
you seam to know what your doing good job

Thanks for the look inside, getting ready to tackle mine. Didn't know what I was getting into, but now I do.

You should always resurface the head before you put it back on.
@RCOU97 Yes there is some oil leakage, not a lot. So yes, either drain it or have a rag ready.

also are the intake and exaust rods the same length?

Also what did you clean the piston with?

Blue or white smoke coming from your engine usually indicates burning oil, which can be caused by:

Incorrect oil grades
Operating engine at greater than a 15 degree angle
Inoperative crankcase breather
Crankcase air leak
Blown head gasket
Worn cylinder and/or rings
Turning/tilting the engine on its side for storage, oil change or any other reason.

Is there timing to worry about when doing this like on a car?

did you adjust the valves?
