      IKR they should just call it "soap cutting" instead it's hard for me to find legit soap carving

    What kind of knife did you use? Do you need to have different kinds of knives to carve with?

    • @solace7030
      @solace7030  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's most commonly called a paring knife. That's the only one I use in all my carvings. I try to make them so you don't need anything special to start doing them yourself. I do want to get a set of carving tools, but I like the simplicity of not needing anything special to carve them.

    This is really well done and very enjoyable to watch, it reminds me of those Satisfying videos. Very nice down to the touch of the details!
    I've got a question though. I'm also planning to do soap carving soon for a school project. I’ve been told by my teacher I can slow boil soap on a stove in a pot/pan until it’s liquified, then I have to pour it into a container, wait for it to cool down and harden again, carefully take the now-solid soap out of the container, and from there I can carve it.
    Is that also okay? What’s the difference b/w carving boiled soap vs non-boiled soap?

    • @solace7030
      @solace7030  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've never tried to book the soap. Never seen any examples of people doing it either. I wouldn't think that would work well. The most important thing is the glycerine content of the soap. It's what makes it soft. Irish spring works good. Ivory soap is really brittle. If you want to make the soap bar softer leave it in it's individual wrapper......put it in the microwave for 9 seconds twice. That's what I do. Not 18 seconds but 9 seconds with a short pause between.

    • @solace7030
      @solace7030  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Meant to say "boil" the soap.

    • @solace7030
      @solace7030  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I like to use a pairing knife also. It's like 1 dollar at Walmart. The knife blade is flat on one side and sharpened on the other. Creating an angled edge, not a v edge like conventional knifes......much sharper and it shaves the material off rather than mushing its way through it. Also......make yourself a stencil....out the soap bar in a piece of paper....tracece the edges....then draw inside that what you want to make....then cut around the edges...then place it in the soap bar and poke the lines with your knife.

      Hey, so I pretty much followed your tips and advice, and my school project went pretty well :D I got an equivalent of an A- ^_^ Am pretty proud of myself. What I did was I simply cut my soap drirectly with a paring knife. I also asked my other classmates if they've boiled the soaps themselves, and they said it's not exactly the best way to go (some tried it); and that it's waaayyy easier, simpler and more effective to just cut the soap directly w/ the paring knife. I think one of them also tried microwaving, and it also worked well. My soap's got the glycerine content, and yep I was able to make a stencil for my soap sculpture. I had a lot of fun doing it! (Had to be extra careful with the knife though)
      Thanks so much, and I hope you continue uploading more of these amazing tutorials and videos :D

    Can I use soap with something already written on it

    • @solace7030
      @solace7030  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes.....just slice the writing off. Or leave it on if you want. I'm not sure what you are using it for. Almost all the soaps I use have the band name stamped on it. I slice it off. The best soap bar shape is as full and square as possible.

    what kind of soap your using of that carving ?

    • @solace7030
      @solace7030  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think I used lever for that one. Don't use ivory....that soap is really brittle. Trick is to put the bar of soap in the microwave for 9 seconds... twice. Then it gets softer. Irish spring works good also. The more glycerin in the soap the better.

    • @solace7030
      @solace7030  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Av-mu3dz you can use it if you want but it's really flakey and brittle. Can't get much detail out of it. If you are unhappy with it it's probably because it's difficult to use that type of soap.

    • @solace7030
      @solace7030  4 ปีที่แล้ว
