    Same thing with my side panel blowing off but luckily was able to recover it up the highway mostly undamaged! Both tied on inside now! Fantastic seat cover, would really transform an untidy bike (which this is not!)

    The reason im guessing the side panel blew off was because the rubber grommets the side panel inserts into, got pushed back through the metal hole the last time the side panel was removed and put back on. So it wasn't being held on by all the grommets. If you put a little oil on the rubber grommets hole the panel inserts into, it helps the side panel go on easier, with less of a chance of pushing the rubber grommets out again.

    Nice video, and a sweet little girl you have :) I'm picking up one of these bikes tomorrow and riding it 8 hours home. Same year, in blue.....and missing a right side cover which blew off on the owner. I will be making a few calls to wreckers. If not I suppose I will be ordering a set like you have, or perhaps the raw ones and paint the darn thing.

    You should make an updated video to explain some of the buttons and switches you have on it. Good tip with the cords.

    There are actually a couple of reasons why a panel might blow off, it was mentioned below about the grommets pushing through and that is one reason, but over lubrication is another, make it too easy to push in, and they come out too easy. It doesn't sound to nice to do it, but a good method is to put some saliva (spit) on the rubber grommets right before we put it back on, if its wet it slips right in, but when it dries after a couple of minutes, it will have enough friction not to blow off so easily. Missing and pushed through grommets are a very common problem.

    beautiful bike! I'm getting mine back from the shop in a week just bought it, 1993 SE model GW. Never rode one before, I have a honda pc800, so I'm a little concerned and hired a friend to give me 3 hours of training overall, he has one.

      You're gonna love the bike! They're not difficult to ride at all. I doubt if you'll need 3 hrs of training. Lol. Enjoy!

    Found forward/bottom pin missing on my side cover. Know it's been gone because of glue compound I had to remove. I took mold of existing side cover pin with clay ball. Let set overnight epoxy mix poured into clay cavity. Measured pin lengths from rubber gromits on bike, then marked side cover pin positioning! Ruffled up plastic side cover, alcohol bath, let air dry then epoxy pin in place! It's set for 2 days now. Looks stronger then 2 non- broken pins! Time will tell!

    Can I ask where you got your side covers. I ordered from a Honda dealer at 450 bucks Canadian for one only to find out a month later that they dont make them anymore so I had to get my money back. The plastic parts that hold it in the rubber grommet break off in the cold.

    • @2704music
      @2704music  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I got them on ebay. I paid $130 for both sides! The color matched ones are very expensive, but if you don't mind the chrome ones, you'll save a lot of money!

    • @2704music
      @2704music  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I got it on Ebay. Just type in "gold wing gl1500 custom seat covers" and they should pop up. there is the possibility that they're not for sale anymore since it was so long ago.

    you must not have a belly pan. Without the pan air comes up from the bottom and blows those panels off. The belly pan also help when you pass a semi.

      Oh I get it...you're one of those stupid people who make judgements before you actually know what you're talking about! The answer is that you leave enough slack in the rope to be able to take the panels off! Duh!!!
