    With the Goldwing Honda invented the permanent motorcycle. You can find a lot of them unused because the owners aged out and stopped riding. Often with high mileage. These bikes don't fail. There's a Gentleman on TH-cam in his early 80s who has almost 800,000 miles on his Goldwing. He can't wipe the smile off his face!

    The Cadillac of motorcycles. My dad used to have a 92 in the same teal color as this one. For anyone wondering what the ride quality is like. My dad used to ride his down to Daytona from Detroit every year for Bike Week. And did so for about 25 years mainly as an excuse to go on a 2000 mile bike ride. To put that in context if you left home at about 6:00AM you'd be lucky to get there around midnight. Literally, an entire day spent riding. And in terms of reliability, I don't remember my dad ever having to repair or replace anything on the bike in the almost 30 years he owned it.

    this past summer I rode with a cousin of mine to one of his friends home that he rides with. The man has a 1993 Gold Wing with 377,000 miles on it. I seen the bike and the odometer and although it has some scuff marks on it the thing still looks and runs like new.

    I have an 88 and its going on a 5000 mile ride at the end of the month. The Gold Wing is the only item I ever desired to get that once I attained it it exceeded any expectations I ever dreamed of. I am disabled and the wing is the only mode of transportation smooth enough for my destroyed spine to handle for any distance at all. The best cars or trucks can only get me 100 miles down the road before having trouble. The wing is 500+ on a good day. So smooth and can avoid pot holes. Enjoy!!!!

      Thank you for the thumbs up. Well I am back from my trip to the Pacific coast. 4,994 actual miles in 14 days. The Blue Moose turned 104,000 when I pulled back into my driveway. I have a horrible spine. Legitimately 100% disabled and terminal. It was the best 14 consecutive days I've lived in the past eight years. I compare it to sitting in my leather recliner with a much better view than a TV.
      I hit all the National Parks. Spent time enjoying the highest elevation roads in the country. No problem. All the power I could ever need plus! Got caught in an ice storm in the Big Horn Mountains. I had to travel 1.5 miles uphill to a turn out to avoid being road kill. The bike never spun. Never slipped or slides. Granted I have 400k motorcycle experience but that totally shocked ME.
      I would leave tomorrow to do it all over again but I seriously injured my back in two episodes of simply operating an automobile in three days of getting home. Im hurting something terrible.
      I account for this because the bike can be so fined tuned for suspension it was like a majic carpet ride! I made a point of counting the number of ouch that hurts bumps on this trip and the number was 12 times in 5000 miles! Upon my arrival home the next day I drove our explorer four miles to see to see my mother and counted 22 ouch bumps in the road.
      I believe it is the finest vehicle ever produced and there is much evidence as to why disabled plates are available! !!!
      I drove the 2018 model in Cody Wyoming and did not like it nearly as much as this first generation. Great bike and all but not nearly the elements protection ofb the first generation.
      The absolute best bike. Made this old man VERY HAPPY
      Safe riding and God Bless

      I did upgrade the headlights to 3x brighter and whiter than stock. Blowtorch lighting. I also upgraded all reflectors and marker lights to the brightest available making "I didn't see you" a tough sell. I also put on an OEM new backrest. Thats it. Tires had 8k on them.

    • @JohnMartin-dn9ez

      To sum it all up. If you are on the fence or concerned about buying a 25 year old piece of equipment. Dont be. Jump off the fence and go for it!!! You owe it to yourself to experience this luxury and performance at a reasonable price point. You dont have to spend $30,000 to get reliability. I paid $2,400 for mine. If I were to get a "new one" it would be a 97-2000 model. (Under $5,000)

    • @JohnMartin-dn9ez
      @JohnMartin-dn9ez 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Each generation has gotten physically a little smaller. The 18 is alot smaller with a bigger power plant but virtually the same with the exception of the DCT model which is a seven speed "automatic"
      I ran through the scales in Montana for grins and giggles. 1503#.

    very nice bike, My 89 gold wing has 111801mi on it and she runs smooth down the road. This bike is fully loaded and I love it. I'm 38 and I went from a sportbike to this, I might never ride a sportbike again! The only problem is this bike feels like a big sportbike very easy to ride and fast. I always rub the foot pegs because these bikes hug the corners great. Almost to much fun. Great video man thanks!

    Thank you for your video and your generosity of willing to share your knowledge. I just bought a 1993 GL1500 in red, she got 135k miles but the engine is the smoothest of any bike I have ever owned, and I had and have many - gl1000, GL1100 and used to have a 2019 GL1800, K1600GTL, etc. I like the GL1500 the most, not to mention how cheap you can get into a good clean one.

    I can definitely identify with you about being able to budget for an 1800 wing . The 1500s are much more affordable and just as reliable . my 1st wing was a 1999 GL1500 SE i gave just over 10 k for it 11 years ago . i just recently bought another GL1500 via craigslist its a 1990 with 32000 on it . i payed 3 k for and it runs drives & looks fine .ill fix it up some ,ride it for a few years then sell it then i think ill just keep this trend going . id say every few years find a slightly newer one as the prices drop on them just jump on & ride it for a while .

    With full gear, myself, full tank, and my wife we are around 1360 pounds on our 1500. Still rides nice. I would suggest shutting the engine down with the key and not the emergency kill switch. Its for emergencies and not every day use. I had to replace mine once and that was the advice I got.

    If your cruise light turns on but will not engage push both the brake and clutch levers forward. Sometimes its only a millimeter but that is enough to make it work. The sensors are extremely sensitive.

    I just traded a 14ft Jetboat for a 1997 GL1500. It sat for about 2 years. Currently breathing life back into it. Love the sound of my Wing. Sorta like a heavy duty truck sound. The choke is sticky so I had to disconnect the choke cable. Fine for now here in Florida but may need fixed come winter time. New brake pads front and back arriving today. i can't get any of the audio equipment or air pump to work yet. Hope i can figure those out. The Wing is my 8th bike. It looks Great next to my 1982 CB750 Nighthawk. I also have a 1992 Mercedes Benz SL500 for when the weather (Hurricane Season) is too crappy to ride in. I'm 145lbs and thinking this is going to be quite an adjustment for me at 900lbs. Looking forward to the challenge.

    try changing the cruise valve element(under the front side cowl) it deteriates and falls to pieces. line could be clogged. Be wary of aftermarket alternators. they tend to fail at about 1k miles, mine did. luckily I had taken the stock with us on vacation. Would have been stranded 900 miles from home. Except for the main headlight, I have switched to LEDs. They draw alot less power. Still running OEM alternator, no issues. AGM battery as well. no more lead/acid im my machine

My windshield had wiper an fine cracks in plastic, so I made bottom template an made a new bottom right above vent! The electronics for helmet is around $53 (same electronics for Yamaha Venture as well. I got a coiled airline from tractor supply! I have Harley to, haha!! HONDA = Harley Owners Needs Dependable Alternatives.
    They don't like Goldwing riders because it gets the girls. Honda put out a service bulletin about the Goldwing and it's rider capacity limiting it to 4 riders. Harley guys can't keep up with that. LED's are the way to go. They use less amps, and run longer.

    I'm not sure if you are still looking for a pull behind trailer but, I have one that matches your bike. I live in the city and don't have enough room to keep it.

    I've got a 1994 honda wing about 64, 000 miles runs great but I've got a low beam lights that are out one fog lamp is out and horn no longer works. Don't know where to get parts for this thing at. Honda will not touch it. Its to old honda says. Don't really know where to turn on getting this thing fixed. Hate to get rid of it. Can someone give me some advise. Fuses are good headlight bulbs are good just don't work on low beams. High beams yes.

      Too funny I have an 89 also, they call mine the couch. But the Harley's just can't keep up just going down the road. For a stock bike with 111801mi on it these bikes are badass. And my old ass Honda was made in the USA and it's stamped all over it. This bike is more American than the new Harley's.

    My question is , ?? Do the front forks bounce . Im getting an extensive fork drop. Up and down .its a very smooth ride , but sometimes to smooth. Is there an adjustment. Or will i need to rebuild front forks.

      No one has replied. Sorry about that I would recommend Bar Risers. They fit between the bars and Bar Clamps and raise... OR tilt back your bars. They are great, just check the length of your cables before you buy. Jim Outback Australia.

    Hey Cliff, I have a 99 Goldwing I just bought and the radio will come on but the volume is very low and can’t get it any louder. It’s so low that when I start the bike you can’t hear the radio at all. Do you have any suggestions as what I can do to fix it. Thanks and I enjoy your videos

    Hi Cliff. I have a 95 and have engine problems . My Honda dealer said that I have a bad cylinder. Thing is. They nolonger work on my models. So I need to find a mechanic. I live in Conway SC. There's no mechanic that I can find to work on my bike. Do you know anyone or a Honda dealer that would fix my bike ? Thanks

    You have to be careful if you didn't upgrade the alternator. I think they are only about 30 amps. There is a 90 amp one you can put on if you wish to have a bunch of extra lights.

    • @CliffordRice
      @CliffordRice  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Joseph Howard stock alternator is 40 amp.

    • @jennydiazvigneault5548
      @jennydiazvigneault5548 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      They were one of the weak points on the 1500. Mine got a new alternator but it was of the original amperage. I had to replace a battery. I dont have problems with it because I dont put extra aftermarket lights and all the extra electronics that will draw more amps.
