Your on the track about closing in the back . I bolted on a strip of heavy conveyor belt 1/2 thick and closed off that gap on mine . Big difference . Much better mulching keeping everything inside going around and no flying debris or turbulence out the back . I like the hammers for heavy wood and brush only never cutting close too the ground . I have the heavy thick Y blades on now and find way more forgiveness and nicer mulching effect and can really cut close too the ground with less damage . They act like a detacher also . Nicer finish with grass then hammers . The hydraulic top link is the way too go like yours . Easy too set the cutting height . My neighbour has the same flail mower as yours with heavy Y blades and six feet wide on a bigger tractor and it’s pretty impressive . It cleans house on some really big branches . He hits a lot rocks also but the Y blades seem too stand up with better relief being able too separate between them .
Great information Stephen😁👍 I too will be using conveyor belt material just have to wait for next season to try it. Thanks for leaving a comment and have a great weekend😁👍🚜💨🍳
I think 🤔 your zero turn would like it if you got one too. Very useful implement. Try a flap disc it works great for sharpening blades. Have a great weekend Canadian Cuz 😁👍🚜💨🍳
Yep 👍 that’s the plan. I was wondering if anyone noticed the short cut😂 I think 🤔 some big tractors can do it from the back. Have a great weekend 😁👍🚜💨🍳
Thanks Martin Your right about the flap disc they do wear faster. I am very happy with the flail mower it also gives me extra room on the trailer. Have a great weekend 😁👍🚜💨🍳
Nice job, Mitch! Nice rock crusher! have not seen the underneath of a flail mower before. Interesting! Soon you'll be able to ditch those bug nets! Cheers!
Thanks Mike I can’t wait 😜 the bugs nets are as annoying as the bugs. I thought the rock was a stump and went over it a couple of times.😂Have a great weekend. 😁👍🚜💨🍳
That’s funny I have a video coming up that shows me using the stump bucket to fix the trail😂👍 thanks for checking out the video have a great weekend 🚜💨🍳
i like your idea of weighing the hammer blades to balance things. I think the easier path is to weigh and mark them all after a first pass of sharpening, then simply assemble them in approximately the same weight around the axel vs making them all the same weight. You can also add a bead of L7018 to thicken them up where the big light nicks are.
Those flail mowers are really cool. The flappy disc seems to do a great job. My brother uses them all the time. There is an abrasives company near me that makes all kinds of wheels and discs, the Norton Company.
Morning Jason I didn’t notice when cutting woody brush but it shows a difference on the grass. Oh and hitting rock 🪨 made me decide to sharpen it. Thanks for leaving a comment have a great weekend 😁👍🚜💨🍳
How did the flail mower work on your lawn? I'm planning on getting one and it will be a do it all for me. It will be my lawn mower and my brush cutter. I still want my lawn to look nice.
Yes that does make sense. So far this is the best video i have seen on the betstco brand. It is way stronger than I would have imagined. I'm hoping it will be a good finish mower as well.
What's the highest cut setting on your flail mower? I like the idea of a flail, but don't want to scalp native grasses. I'd prefer to keep those cut to about 4 " an no shorter.
I would say it’s more than 4”inches but I would have to get back to you on that after putting a tape measure on it. Thanks for checking out the video 😁👍🚜💨🍳
Those darn rocks jump out of nowhere! I've hit a few with my brush hog and actually dented the steel shell. The blades weren't too happy either. Have you used a brush hog on your 2601? If so what did you like better the brush hog or the rotary cutter?
I have not used a brush hog yet😁 I went with the flail mower for extra room on my trailer. So far I am happy with it. Thanks for checking out the video Justin😁👍🚜💨🍳
@@MJADoingStuff I wanted to get a flail but price and availability led me to a brush hog. Some day I would like to get an offset flail mower but its low on the wish list. Have yourself a good one!
Nice work, Mitch. Man I could have used a flail mower when cutting my last trail. I've seen nothing good comments about these mowers. Is there anything about it you just don't like or makes you uncomfortable using it?
Thanks David😁 I think 🤔 it was the perfect choice for me. It takes minimal space to store and trailer plus easy to work on and can get through tight trails. Rocks don’t seem to bother it. Only thing is they are getting expensive. The Betstco company is in Washington state near you I believe. Thanks for checking out video.😁👍🚜💨🍳
You had me at "hydraulic top link".....that's next level, Mitch!
Thanks Brad it makes a big difference when using the box blade. Thanks for checking out the video 😁👍🚜💨🍳
💥 That’s how it’s done Mitch! I’ve gotta do the same thing very soon.
*Keep on tractoring!*
Thanks Jon 😁👍 first time I chopped up a rock with it.😂have a great weekend 🚜💨🍳

I've been using my zero turn as a brush hog.. and have been sharpening the blades a lot! Well done, I'd like to have a flail mower as well.

I'm always impressed with what those flail mowers can chew through! Nice video and good information 👍
Thanks Sam 😁 I am glad we purchased it. Thanks for checking out the video have a great weekend 😁👍🚜💨🍳
Do the bride a favor and put a piece of barn mat at the discharge! I won’t ask how the tractor moved without being in the seat…. Nice work.
Yep 👍 that’s the plan. I was wondering if anyone noticed the short cut😂 I think 🤔 some big tractors can do it from the back. Have a great weekend 😁👍🚜💨🍳
You sure make it look easy. Keep up the good work
Thanks John it was pretty easy. Thanks for checking out the video buddy 😁👍🚜💨🍳
Great job on the hammers. We like those flap discs too. Those flail mowers are good, we set up a new one for a friend recently
Thanks Joseph I am very happy with the flail mower. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment 😁👍🚜💨🍳
Well done, Mitch! I’ve found that flap disks work better than grinding disks but seem to wear out quicker. Your flail mower makes a good mulcher too.
Thanks Martin Your right about the flap disc they do wear faster. I am very happy with the flail mower it also gives me extra room on the trailer. Have a great weekend 😁👍🚜💨🍳

I saw the stump bucket and thought you might widen that narrow part of the trail where you had a hard time getting thru.
That’s funny I have a video coming up that shows me using the stump bucket to fix the trail😂👍 thanks for checking out the video have a great weekend 🚜💨🍳

Norton makes a great product l have been using them for years. Thanks for checking out the video. Have a great Sunday 😁👍🚜💨🍳
Were you noticing it not mowing as well, or was this purely proactive maintenance?
Morning Jason I didn’t notice when cutting woody brush but it shows a difference on the grass. Oh and hitting rock 🪨 made me decide to sharpen it. Thanks for leaving a comment have a great weekend 😁👍🚜💨🍳
Rocks.....baaaaad! 😉🤣
Very 😂👍 thanks for checking out the video 😁👍🚜💨🍳
Can you do over on replacing a roller. Removal and install
Are you talking about the long roller on the flail mower?
How did the flail mower work on your lawn? I'm planning on getting one and it will be a do it all for me. It will be my lawn mower and my brush cutter. I still want my lawn to look nice.
I have used it on grassy weeds but not the good grass (lawn) because the roller will smash it. Hope that makes sense 😁👍🚜💨🍳
Yes that does make sense. So far this is the best video i have seen on the betstco brand. It is way stronger than I would have imagined. I'm hoping it will be a good finish mower as well.
