"MUNNA" - Big male tiger in Kanha - 16th April 2014

- Male tiger in Kanha National Park, India on 16th April 2014 .
Since identified as "Munna" one of the biggest male tigers in the park.
Scent marking up a track to the end of it's territory, where it pauses, and pauses, and pauses and then walks back down the track - to create panic amongst the jeep drivers.
His paws are massive
It’s not a tiger. It’s a truck. He’s massive

The camera was so far away from that tiger, but still it looks so strong and big....imagine if that camera was taken close to the tiger.

One of the biggest tigers in India has just given you a great sighting. Munna is a legend, there's not yet a tiger bigger than him when he was in his prime. Even now at 10 yrs old, he still looks great. Recently he has just defeated another younger large male tiger in a fight. This is the massive male that Munna defeated and chased away:

Shere Khan in Big Cat Rescue was massive too. Machili is a female legend herself - having reigned Ranathambore for a while.

In india, there was a tiger named Wagdoh.
Wagdoh was the Crowned king of Todoba forest reserve. He was one of largest tiger in the asia weighing over 300kgs. His territory was about 150sq. kms. He mated with many females nd gave birth to around 20 cubs. But his beloved tigress was Madhuri. Madhuri lost her territory to another female nd left Wagdoh's territory forever. At the eame time there was another tiger named Bajrang who had entered Wagdoh's territory. Wagdoh was madly in love with Madhuri so he left his territory in search of Madhuri. He was only defeated by one tiger named Khali as Wagdoh was pretty old nd weak at that time. After the defeat, khali took Wagdoh's beloved Girlfriend Madhuri nd had kids with her. Wagdoh eventually died in 2022.
What happened to his territory? Well it was taken by the upcoming king of todoba, Bajrang. Bajrang was not as big as Wagdoh but was still huge and powerful. He successfully defended his territory and defeated many tigers. He had more than 30 kids nd was nd ruled for years after wagdoh left. Later on, he faced the son of matkasur(another male tiger in tadoba), i.e. Chota Matka. At that time, Bajrang was pretty old as well. He was defeated by chota Matka and died in November 2023 due to extensive bleeding and wounds caused during the fight with Chota Matka.
Now Bajrang's territory is divided among 6 male tigers. After Wagdoh, bajrang expanded hir territory even more and made it the largest territory of a single male tiger in India.

For those who say tigers are shorter than african lions , they must be shown this video. Munna looks taller than any lion.
Only big siberian tigers can match the height of african lion. This tiger doesn't even look that tall.

bunty sharma how are you so sure, do you have the measurements, because visually there is no indication that says this tiger surely taller than any lion.

@@Terabaap4546 i'm sure there are tigers bigger than the one shown in the video, i'm not doubting that, but your claim that the tiger in this video is taller than any lion is a tall claim i feel.For example the lion in this video ---> th-cam.com/video/QvHuiRYIKB8/w-d-xo.html is what i would call a tall lion and you can't be so sure munna is taller than this lion.Unless we have measurements we wouldn't know for sure.Its well known that lion is taller at shoulder just like tiger is longer than lion.

hey Stuart. Excellent camera work. There is one point in this video that, between your steady shot and the tiger standing dead still, I actually had to look at the timer on the video to make sure that the video hadn't frozen for some reason.
It was quite odd how the tiger just froze, the guide thought it had reached to limit of it's territory and was having a hard think about trespassing. How I was that steady still surprises me. Hand held travel camera, no tripod. I think being unable to breath helped!
Munna is such a lame name for a magnificent tiger
probably suited it when it was a cub ("munna" means "child").

Bears pound per pond are better in fight than the big cats, way more stamina and much better protected vital areas.Siberians do hunt subadult mostly black and very rarely brown bears, but the fully grown specimens from both species are generally avoided with the adult browns virtually safe from tigers.

@@anjaliahari1864 In his prime he could have been 270.. he could have been 220. Not really known, nobody measured him. When another "largest tiger" Jai was collared, he was weighed 238 kgs.

Average weight of male bengal tiger is 221 kg. He is bigger than average. I can clearly say he is around 260 kg

@@stulu I'm from Jabalpur the neighboring district of Mandla District where kanha national park is situated.
Though I can't tell about which range's video is this but as per my knowledge Munna or T-17 popularly known as The king of Kanha mostly used to rule over the Kisli (pronounced as "Kiss-Lee" ) range of the Kanha-Kisli national park.
A couple of years or so back he was shifted to van vihar national park as he had killed a local girl. He took his last breath last year in the month of march. But will stay forever in the hearts of wildlife lovers..❤️

Very well thank you. I remember the experience well and only put the video onto TH-cam in it's entirety for you. I was all set to edit out the standing still part! Now enjoyed by many thousands of people. I can still recall us turning the corner in the park to see that magnificent tiger. Heart-stopping. Best wishes to all in Kanha and hope you and the tigers are thriving in these difficult times.

I would absolutely love to know what was going through that big boys head when he took that long pause? Was it about hunting or females or territory maybe even his young? Because in the last couple years they have discovered that male tigers may have more of a relationship with they're young then previously thought
Me too! Thanks for the comment. My initial thought was that I'd need to edit out the long pause but I'm glad I didn't. It just creates that question - what was Munna thinking? I'd say he reached the end of his territory and decided against going any further. Best wishes.

For some reason Male lions have lean back legs it doesn't usually match with huge mane in the front....tigers and even lioness have aesthetic backnlegs

Thanks Samuel. I think he just reached the end of his territory. It was amazing to see him stand as still as that, and then walk back straight towards us. Unforgettable.
