Every place I lived including an old trailer had a name to remember, however humble, because it was home and to some extent like family, not an inanimate object. It deserved a name because it offered shelter, privacy and protection from the elements and other varmints. The Trailer was Silver Bullet. Being in the future you guys will be a modern day Odysseus spending several years trying to find your Shangri-La with many adventures along the way. There will be a special moment in Illinois when history becomes very personal and close for you all. We enjoy it all. Thank you for keeping us on the ride.

Y'all have a busy year of renovating and planning ahead. Crazy is up for interpretation... what a family experience you'll be on. And, as far as your landing place, you'll know when you get there. Will say though, Kentucky makes for some pretty amazing living... but we may be partial. 😉

    • @TheHollarHomestead

If you go to Northeast Florida, you should visit St. Augustine. Oldest city, numerous historic locations to see. Take the red trolley tour, go to St George St., play on the beach, excellent restaurants everywhere, and Marineland is kid friendly. Also Weeki Wachee Springs State Park is very cool. They have live mermaid shows, boat tours, animal shows......., same with Silver Springs outside of Ocala. Glass bottom boat tours, animal shows, live music...... In Palatka, is Ravine Gardens. The Keys are amazing, but expensive. I would look up state parks, for each state. It is not, as expensive, to stay in those, and they usually have something fun and cheap associated with them. How fun!!

Good for all of you! What an adventure is ahead of you. Idaho is a beautiful state. My dad lived in Garden Valley. It's in the mountains above Meridian/Boise. His property was on the river and there were many humming birds! I loved visiting when he lived there. You will find the right place to live.

Holy cow. So exciting, I'm happy for your family! Don't worry about the people who call you crazy, just do it. I follow several full-time RV travel channels, as that's my 2nd favorite thing to see people doing other than homesteading. Such a great idea to see the country and then decide where to settle down, and you've got to a whole year to plan.
A channel up in Canada started out traveling as A Guy A Girl And A Campervan, and now they're starting a homestead - Back To Reality. Lots of families are out there doing it, and it has to be such an incredible experience for kids too. My video later today might interest you (shameless plug) about WWOOFing. Perhaps you could stay at a few homesteads on your journey...

You guys rock! My wife and I lived in northern California for 3 years and left for what seems to be the same reasons as you. We moved out here to south central Tennessee and the savings between a lower mortgage payment on 15 acres w/beautiful home vs. rent in a tiny shack in Napa Valley; no more out of control water bills since we now have wells; gas at just 55-60% of CA prices; food and dining out costs at 50% less; NO STATE INCOME TAX; much lower property taxes, etc we saved at least $20K per year. It is SO beautiful out here, make sure you take HWY 64 across the bottom of the state vs. I-40 and you'll see what I mean. Contact Justin Rhodes and look at his VLOG if you haven't already - he and his wife just hit all 50 States with their 4 kids and I'm sure they have a ton of lessons learned that will make your adventure that much better. Best of luck to you all and I look forward to following you on your journey! #WhackAdoodle!

I'm also getting use to looking at codes and regulations in each state. the ordnance oh ya its plentiful in many states so be careful you don't land in another strict state cuz they are adding more reductions every year. Best i can figure is a leanyent state will take longer to become ridiculous. Lol your already haven fun lol glad to meet you

Yeah, it's just like really expensive and it's just a house from the 60s, I grew up with some of the same appliances. Had a guy from Scotland stay with me a couple days, was busking his way across the U.S. playing bagpipes for a charity back home (I'm a part time piper so..) He was adamant about going, then was disappointed. Good for Cult of Elvis members only. Other than that.. there is a zoo, Children's Museum, The Mississippi of course, a Bass Pro shop in this huge metal pyramid (used to be a sports coliseum), several community gardens under the "Memphis Tilth" umbrella with associated efforts. not sure what else might be somewhat interesting. Some local micro-breweries...
