      when it's in the best interest for the rest of the children, the decision needs to be made. If she had reduced, at least some of the babies would have survived. Now, none of them did. So, in the end, which decision came out worse? I know it's harsh, but her decision "murdered" (as you put it) her children.

      Well basically the doctor already told them the chances of survival were to be low, therefore the option of termination. Soooo it's not like they weren't aware of the possible consequences. Hope dies last...and with that did all of their children, too.
      I have next to no pity for those two but I feel for the children.

    *I am sorry for their loss however, that’s precisely why the doctor highly suggested selective reduction to avoid this heartbreak. 7 babies trying to survive, one dies others fail too.*

    • @ToLovelyJesus
      @ToLovelyJesus 6 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      Captcha Neon
      Selective reduction is just another word for murder. That wouldn't have been any better than what happened. Because even if they had "reduced" their pregnancy and the other babies had survived, they would still have to live with the blood guilt of killing babies.

    • @gabbsb8068
      @gabbsb8068 6 ปีที่แล้ว +79

      I’m sorry but if I was pregnant with multiple babies and the doctor said to improve the others chance of survival for the other ones I would do the selective reduction. I feel that’s why her babies didn’t have a chance. She was also a small woman and her body probably couldn’t take anymore hence why she went into early labor.

    • @maybewise
      @maybewise 6 ปีที่แล้ว +55

      +ToLovelyJesus It's not "murder". You can't "murder" a part of your body. At the point where they're just a bundle of cells, and not viable, sentient beings, they're just another part of her body, with the POTENTIAL to be a separate life form. But I'm sure it would've been much easier to deal with, if they had a couple/few kids to show for it, instead of having them ALL die, and having planned for nothing. It's like making the choice between letting a doctor amputate your leg, or dying of an infection from your leg, spreading to your heart. It should be a no-brainer.

    • @taunyasaner1183
      @taunyasaner1183 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Remy Mafia you’ve got to be joking to compare those two situations. Those babies ALL had a heartbeat so they weren’t just clumps of cells and an extra part of her body. Your leg being amputated is nothing at all like a selective reduction which is an elective abortion technically.

    • @maybewise
      @maybewise 6 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      +Taunya I'm talking about the point in which they first learned they had a dangerous number of embryos forming. Even if it was after they developed heartbeats, they still weren't viable. They weren't even viable at 5 months. Hence, why they died almost immediately, when separated from their mom's body.

  • @FlowingDepths
    @FlowingDepths 8 ปีที่แล้ว +985

    Sad story, but the human body simply isn't made to carry those many embryos at once! I hope they consider adoption again, so many children out there in need of a good home...

    • @jesstankard6643
      @jesstankard6643 8 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      Sorry you are incorrect. A pregnant woman with multiple babies can carry up to 32 weeks gestation. But are classified as high risk.
      It is extremely rare but I have read/heard of some mothers carrying multiple babies full term.

    • @FlowingDepths
      @FlowingDepths 8 ปีที่แล้ว +52

      It's rare for a reason. Fertility treatments were how she got pregnant in the first place, so high risk or not, the human body still wasn't made to gestate so many. Otherwise it'd be more common with a higher success rate.

    • @jesstankard6643
      @jesstankard6643 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +FlowingDepths if the human body wasnt made to gestate so many embryos in one go then she wouldnt of fallen pregnant at all..
      It is very possible for the human body to hold more then one fetus but the risk factors are there and that is why early intervention/planning takes place.
      Like I said if we werent able to concieve (natually or through IVF) multiples babies then our bodies should naturally (not) keep the pregnancy but that isnt the case.

    • @FlowingDepths
      @FlowingDepths 8 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      Fertility drugs, not IVF, is tied to causing triplet or higher births. Multi-fetal birth brings with it the possibility for life long problems in the babies, and a high risk of prematurity. Again, the woman in the video got pregnant with the help of fertility drugs, and you are partially correct in your last sentence, the human body typically does "naturally (not) keep" such pregnancies. Hence the woman in the video's unfortunate run in with prematurity in her embryos. Again, sad case.

    • @jesstankard6643
      @jesstankard6643 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +Metonymy1979 ... I meant that some people can choose concieving through IVF, naturally or having them implanted..
      I dont see how she is a hypocrite - yes she took the risk and unfortunately miscarried all her babies but she never meant any harm.
      You do realise how hard it is for some couples to even concieve either through having pcos, being told they are unlikely to bare children or have a medical illness that prevents them from even concieving. It is mentally draining and very stressful and unless you have had experienced a miscarriage or are put in her shoes to REALLY understand her reasons for wanting to keep all the babies then you need to back off. End of story.

  • @mrsvanessachristine1822
    @mrsvanessachristine1822 9 ปีที่แล้ว +196

    Obviously a loss is devastating (I can't even imagine) - but the doctors suggest reduction to prevent EXACTLY what this couple unfortunately experienced. Loss/preterm/disability is the norm with pregnancies with this many embryos.

    • @valcarter2952
      @valcarter2952 9 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      +Vanessa Carlsen exactly. I feel for them because i can't imagine this amount of loss, but they seem oblivious and unrealistic. I feel like they set themselves up for failure.

    • @tealeaflist
      @tealeaflist 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Vanessa Carlsen Yeah, like the OctoMom. She had 8 & lost... Never mind... The issue as I see it is that Lindsay left the Local Yokel in charge of the gestation, even after the No Talent Fool said "It's unethical to Stop True Labor" to her weeks before. This gestation needed some World Class Care & unfortunately such was Lacking. I feel she was perfectly within the bounds of Medical Reason to refuse Sel Red, she just needed a better doctor to manage her Septuplets. What they didn't say on this NewsBite is that her Doctor Yokel said "Let me pull the Pessary so I can get a Better Look..." She deserved better care & did not get it. Sad.

    • @tealeaflist
      @tealeaflist 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If they had picked a physician with a decent skillset All of them could have survived. Mom should have launched a search just as soon as she started hearing about how the Local Yokel 'needed her to Reduce' & gone wherever that talent was based. Nadya Suleiman did not reduce nor did she need to, her gestation had Zero Losses despite having 2 pairs of Monochorionic Identicals included, which raised her level of risk Astronomically above this case here, in which each baby had her own placenta. Her doctor gave up in week 22 & pulled out the cervical pessary. That's why all 7 babies died.

    • @deemail100
      @deemail100 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Vanessa Carlsen the problem with that logic is that a large number of women who selectively reduce go on to lose all the embryos...the very action involved can and frequently does cause miscarriage to the rest.... you have to trust than any parents in this situation or a similar one have carefully and painfully considered all the information they are given and then make the best choice for them and their family at THAT moment in time....

    • @tealeaflist
      @tealeaflist 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well said Deemail100. By the time the Sel Red gets performed we are more properly discussing Fetuses & not Embryos. My main Thesis here, if you will, is that this mom was actually in need of World Class expertise, such as that which Nadya Suleiman, the "Octomom" had available to her. The video does not make it clear, however using her name as a search key there is a Wordpress blog of hers that makes more of the awful tragedy apparent. It would seem that Mom had the impression that Mother Earth, God, & the Country Doctor were all that she needed to allow these babies to be Liveborn. I feel she was wrong in this, & that the Country Doctor especially was the wrong choice to make in this gestation that could have benefitted greatly from a medical team Hip to the latest techniques in gestational management. The Old Doc went as far as to tell her that "It's Unethical, to Stop True Labor." Which sounds Nice & Folksy, yet is a Truly Stupid thing to say. Labor which can be stopped is not "True", is it? I am sorry for her Losses.

      Or! You could realize that some women want to give birth to their own children. That doesn't lessen their love for children, but to give birth to a child who is a mix of YOU and your husband is a sacred thing that some women want. And it's rude to suggest that her wanting that isn't right.

    • @YunaRiPain
      @YunaRiPain 6 ปีที่แล้ว +93

      The doctors have to implant multiple embryos at a time because with infertility usually ur body rejects them so to increase your chances of a successful pregnancy this is the method. And usually only one actually makes it to be fertilized. Very rarely does it happen where so many actually latch on, how u get ppl like her or the octo-mom. But yea it sucks and is a really sad story but u cant deny physics when statistics are given to u and u choose to blantly ignore it. #RIPBabies

    It doesn't look like she has enough body fat for that many babies... most women with multiples are bigger. Not necessarily obese, but a higher body fat percentage. Even seven babies is too much for any woman regardless of body type, the odds were definitely not stacked in her favor given how thin she was. Just from a medical standpoint these babies really didn't have a great chance at survival even if they selectively reduced.

    The doctor was right. 7 babies is not natural, we aren't meant to carry that many to term. It was dangerous and a little greedy to try to keep all of them.

    • @charlieskidmore6813

      xPumpkinxMelonx it’s not greedy when it’s their own children, it’s up to them. just imagine thinking that you chose to kill your other babies and kept the others. Unless you’ve carried children yourself you wouldn’t even begin to understand what the bond would be like for a mother and child, just think about 7 of them.

      As much as I feel bad and don’t think it’s right for them to have had to burry 7 children, your right. It was a medical/scientific fact that their wasn’t going to be a away for her to successfully birth all 7 children and leave the hospital with all 8. I mean I do believe that miracles happen and God can do wonders but at some point you have to consider facts.

      clorox bleach having one child already, this is a no brainer. I would in fact selectively terminate some of the fetuses to be able to have a successful birth of one or two. I'd rather have one baby make it than have them all die on me. Our bodies word me to carry that many fetuses.

Lets create an extreme scenario and say there is a ship sinking and lifeboat holds 5, there are 5 kids and 5 elderly. Would you prefer nobody boarded the boat and they all died because you can not save all of them? Don’t get fertility treatments as it’s a known fact that getting the fertility treatments raises the risks of multiple births.. When you’re infertile And go through this most people are sane enough and desperate enough they’d do it. Because they’ve tried so hard for so long they want the best. And if the best is killing a few to save a few most people would do it. Try being infertile for 10+ years then you’ll understand. If you haven’t been infertile you’ll never get it. Stop being so apathetic Ingrid Guevara. You’re shaming women who’ve had to deal with infertility and thats not acceptable, especially coming from someone who is most likely fertile.

      Fertility treatments are fine, but they should be done sensibly! In Europe there are laws that prevent a woman from becoming pregnant of that many fetuses through fertility treatment.
      For example, in my country when IVF is used only two embryos are allowed to be placed back in the womb at a time (the rest can be frozen for a second try). When IUI is used no more than two eggs can be released for the doctor to be allowed to add the sperm.
      Remember these embryos can still split in the womb, so higher number multiples are still not impossible, just less likely.

      Ingrid Guevara Their choice to keep all fetuses, against medical advice, killed all their babies. The chance all of them would go full term where extremely low. Had they followed the doctors plan and removed some when they still where conscious-less cell clumps, there would most likely not have been any baby that had to suffer, though for a short time, and die and the family would have gotten siblings to the first two. No matter how you turn it, babies will die, so why not go for the option that kill the least and only undeveloped cell clumps that's not much more of a child then a sperm or an egg are?

Her doctor wasn't sure she was strong enough to fight through?... Against My doctor's orders, I got out of bed&went to the NICU where my precious miracles where fighting to stay alive. I went up to my daughters incubators&she wrapped her teeny tiny hand around my finger, then I whispered to her, "Stay strong Angel! Don't give up, I know you can win this fight, I love you. mommy loves you. The very next day their doctor informed nurses, my daughter was breathing 75% on her own. She was on her way to recovery! now they're 8yrs old, and in the third grade. Looking at them now you can not tell they were premature baby's. God is Good!*

      Marissa Bernard they had a right to chose to try to get pregnant biologically. Being infertile doesn't mean you're the perfect candidate to adopt children. You shouldn't adopt as a consolation prize but because you genuinely want to bring a child into your family. It's a very sad loss of life. But adoption isn't the easy answer, even foster (which also has a high failure rate and also doesn't allow all families to do, restrictions vary by state).

      As parent you would rather give every child an equal chance to fight and live that to choose to 'terminate' one. Carrying your children inside of you is no different than physically carrying them in your arms. You love each one as an individual ad would die before you let anyone or anything hurt them. You wouldn't choose to 'terminate' the lives of 2 born children to save the lives of the other 5 born children; so why do the same to unborn children.
      But that is simply my decision.
      My thought go out to this family! It is beyond any understanding what they must be going through! RIP to those poor little girls!

    I've never been so disgusted by a TH-cam comment section in my life! So, all of you have the magical, mystical power of seeing alternate timelines, right? You know for sure that if she had gone with the reduction, the rest of her babies would have lived, right? It's such a given because having 7 children is so normal that all outcomes are easily predicted and there is an exact formula to calculate the perfect outcome, right? You all sound so ignorant. She chose between two extremely difficult choices. She could have aborted two or three of her children (still with a very high chance of losing all of the babies), or she could let all of her children have a chance to make it into the world. Either way, there was a high chance of tragedy, and the fact that people are blaming these parents for the deaths of these girls is so sickening to me.

    As someone who feels much empathy for this family and who, like them, believes in a higher power, I will respectfully comment that fertility treatment borders on "playing God" as much as selective reduction does. We medically engineer conception and label it a miracle, but call medically sustaining it a sin? What troubles me is not the [lack of] logic in itself, but the emotional suffering that it costs good people, like this couple, who subscribe to it. It is difficult to watch people suffering when they didn't have to, and that's what makes this story such a sad one.

    • @sprinklefriend
      @sprinklefriend 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually, fertility treatment and "selective reduction" (aka ending the lives of children who are alive) are NOT even close to the same thing. One creates lives, one ends them. Those two things are inherently different.

      They implant as many "embryos" as possible, the couple decides how many they try to implant. The embryo has to thrive though. In this case, they lost 1 out of 7 very quickly. Even so 6 is not common and so rare the UK in 2009 (look it up!) recorded the first natural conceived and survived sextuplets. That's 6 babies. The less embryos in utero the more likely the embryos can survive to fetus and to viable births. Selective reduction gives a chance at life whereas refusing selectively reducing the amount of embryos increases the risk of fetal death. So in this case, their choice resulted in all 7 dying. Your argument is illogical.

    • @Jessica641
      @Jessica641 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +oOMissPoodlePantsOo - Well neither did octomom who gave birth to 8 babies and neither did Kate Gosselin- who gave birth to all her 6. They all made that choice and their kids wouldn't be here if they chose to kill them. This couple had the same hope as the other couples who didn't loose their multiples had. They just weren't the lucky ones. How many singleton pregnancies end up in a loss in stillbirth, miss miscarriage, late term miscarriage, and born too early they can't survive just like these little ones? This happens all the time. Pregnancy is a gamble. Anything can go wrong at any moment. Nothing is a sure thing. Who's to say if they did choose to reduce that any of the others would have survived?

    • @mewtwomotherfuka

      +Jessica641 I get what your saying but usally the kids from multiple pregnacys are there because of science and constant care, They prob. had to be in the hospital for atleast 2 months before they went home. They were all born premature and super small. Idk about you but back in the old days, you push and birth and as long as the baby wasent facing the wrong way or the cord wasent wrapped around their neck. No other medical attention was needed 90% of the time. I mean, imagine anyone spending 2 months or 6 months straight in the hospital. Who would want that?

    I would've reduced. I have many fertility problems due to other medical conditions , and it would be safer for me and my children to reduce. I'm going to be honest -- I'm not a "logical" person. I'm a professional writer -- I spend quite a bit of time in lala land, but I don't see the sense in this. They already had two kids, which for a lot of women with infertility would literally be a miracle. But I wouldn't call this anyone's "fault". It was really just a collection of extremely bad choices that led to an unimaginably tragic circumstance. There's no one to specifically blame, but it certainly could've been prevented.

    • @tealeaflist
      @tealeaflist 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +Addy Norman I would like to hear you expound a little more, they apparently had principles which prevented their reducing. One extremely bad choice was the doctor in charge of the gestation, who literally pulled the plug (cervical pessary) on it when she came in at 21 weeks in PTL.

    • @simgingergirl
      @simgingergirl 9 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      +Michael Ray Overby It was never stated that she had a cervical pessary, and if she had waited too long to come in (they stated that they were in denial), then labor could've progressed too far to intervene. These people already had two children. Women like me would give anything for that. If they had just been happy with what they had -- then this wouldn't have occurred. If they had reduced -- then this wouldn't have occurred. If the fertility doctor had been more cautious -- then this wouldn't have occurred. I'm not gonna get too far into principles, but I think they made the wrong choice. If you have fertility problems, then chances are -- something is going to go wrong in your pregnancy. They're clearly very religious, and it can be hard for people with that kind of passion (for anything really) to be reasoned into doing something other than what they believe they should do. It's sometimes hard for me to understand how people can be so blindly religious, but when comes to certain things (such as writing), I can be just as fanatical. That's about as close as I can come to making sense of this situation. Ultimately, for me, logic trumps faith. If I were lucky enough to ever actually be able to maintain a pregnancy, I would do whatever was medically best -- but that's just me.

    • @tealeaflist
      @tealeaflist 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      They have a WordPress blog, I'll update with the info on that. That's where everything came from regarding her mismanaged labor, including the pessary. The "fertility doctor' only prescribed 1 cycle of Clomid that resulted in the original Septuplets. Your writing is indeed beautifully rational. I'll get you the address to their wordpress site. Thank you for your answer Addy.

But, I hope that couples who have love in their hearts and enough stability in their finances to expand their families will open their hearts a little wider, and adopt children who greatly need their love and stability. IF NOT, love your neighbors, friends, and even strangers. There are SO MANY people who are already on this planet, who need their love and stability. Take care of the ones who need the love and support. Look around and see the need.

    I watched another short documentary about this couple and it is just sad. The couple said they didn't want to "play god" by reducing the pregnancy. But they played god when they used medication that caused her to hyper-ovulate, it is all very hypocritical. Also, the mother obviously has an eating disorder and is malnourished, you can't expect to carry that many babies when you can't even nourish yourself. She was doing exercises when she should have been on bed rest with such high order multiples. So many instances of selfishness with this couple all in the name of "god". I only feel bad for the babies who died.

    • @Eszra
      @Eszra 8 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      +Simiopath I hate to say it but I agree about the eating thing, I mean it's possible, what woman looks that thin after having any amount of babies? My late mom was thin because she had an unknown thyroid problem but I looked it up and the condition they said the mom in this story has a side affect of weight gain, their is most likely something wrong. Not to mention she's more then likely young and yet she looks way older, that tends to be a sign of poor nutrition. My mom still looked 40 when she died.

    • @annamay2632

      septuplet pregnancies almost never occur with standard PCOS treatments, so they had no reason to expect this. if they could not, in good conscience, kill any of their babies without regretting it for the rest of their lives, then they made the right choice. knowing the outcome is not likely to be great doesn't mean she shouldn't have tried her best.

    Honestly, if it would have saved some babies. she should have terminated. Instead of losing all of them, she would have had at least one. Doctors know what is best, so if they tell you that your best chance is something that goes against your "beliefs", and you go against that, I will not be sorry for you.
    You are educated people who took a great personal and monetary loss, just because you thought you were "doing right by god". And now you have no babies. How is that right by God at all??

      Yeah, again, she would have been able to keep a few rather than losing all of them. By your logic, she just committed murder. Good job.
      It's a choice. You do not get to have a definitive say on what I do with my body. And up until 20 weeks (which is the point where a fetus could possibly survive OUTSIDE a body), it is not a "baby".
      Abortion is necessary. Why do you think we have so much poverty? And what about woman who were raped? Do you think it's right they have to bear a pregnancy that they did not want, nor deserve?? Think about these things the next time you want to argue with adults.

    I don't mean to sound insensitive but I'm sure I will, but evacuating even 2-3 of the babies would have given the rest a better chance. I think they were selfish and it cost them their babies.

    • @machinery6047
      @machinery6047 8 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I agree. I am so sad for their loss (which was monumental) and I really understand why a lot of people wouldn't want an abortion in a normal situation... but this isn't a normal situation. Their choice to not evacuate a few caused the deaths of the rest... I understand people are very tightly attached to their personal values but blatantly speaking they gambled with those babies lives, to save themselves from whatever guilt they'd have experienced if they'd listened to the doctor. Seems a bit selfish to me, but it's a really hard choice to make I suppose...

    • @machinery6047
      @machinery6047 8 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      By choosing none of them, they chose all of them. If my doctor told me that's what my inaction would probably do, I would let the doctor select the ones he thought were least viable to evacuate and leave it at that. Would it be a hard decision? Of course. It's playing with lives.
      Probably also helps I'm pro-choice and have no issue with abortion before viability; I can see why someone who is pro-life would abhor this kind of decision.

      There's a huge difference between reducing the number of foetuses inside a woman and killing a child already born. Women are not meant to have litters of children like this. Fertility drugs should be banned. If you can't have a baby of your own, your God is telling you something. Go adopt.

    How can a mother pick and choose which child she keeps alive and which one's she kills? They made their choice and they're living with that choice. They chose to not give up on their babies. To give each and every one a chance at life. Just happened to not end well for them in the end. Unless you have been in this situation then you don't know what you would or wouldn't do. I personally would have done things the way they did. I wouldn't be able to choose one of my kids lives over the other. They were conceived together and carried together. If it's meant for them to die together then so be it. Apparently wasn't meant to be in this case for them to be brought into this world. My heart goes out to them for their loss. Doesn't bother me at all if no one agrees with me or not. We're all in titled to our opinions. I don't judge anyone on how they feel. We're all different.

      You should research selective reduction in scientific articles. She doesn't pick and choose. A doctor determines which are most likely to survive based on placement, whether or not any share sacs/placenta, if genetic testing is done then that is used as well.

      +Amanda Nava if by "killing the other children" you mean having a selective abortion, then yes, she would have had a better chance at a successful pregnancy if she'd done that. No pregnancy is 100% guaranteed to be successful, but there are steps people can take to have a better chance of a successful pregnancy. And in this case, that would have been having the selective abortion.

Your opinions about her body or feelings about her choice to try and birth all of her children are obscenely inhumane and hurtful. Please, try to consider this is a person; a woman, a mother, a daughter, a wife... and she had been so traumatized that she wants to connect with people to share her story and to feel healing through love and support...Not more suffering. I understand the loss is heart breaking, but they could have made the best of it and came out with two very healthy twins or even triplets. Not to mention they named them before the mark of "having a chance". It's like counting your eggs before they hatch. Even women carrying on child are told a date to wait until.

      Have you ever lost a baby? Obviously not. Just because you're told they won't survive doesn't stop a mother from loving the babies inside her. And some people don't want abortions. If I was asked to reduce the amount of babies I would never be able to because I couldn't look at the babies that were alive and think of the ones that didn't make it. I can't believe people are making rude and negative comments. Can't we just be respectful to parents who lost their babies and let them grieve and show them love and support without a bunch of people blaming them and being mean?

    It would be such a horrible thing to have to decide whether or not you should have selective reduction done. When people believe in their faith, it's such a difficult thing to say yes to that because you DO believe in your faith. You believe that your God will look after you and your babies while you're pregnant. You can't tell someone that they're wrong for not doing the selective reduction, or that they should have. You genuinely do believe that the babies will it and you will too. And killing one (or more) of those babies isn't something that some people can live with; not giving them the chance to live.
    I know that I personally would never EVER be able to make that choice. I wouldn't be able to give up on that possibility of my baby/babies of living.
