    Hi Becky! Thanks for this tutorial for Amelie Scott "Edge to Edge". I didn't print the designs out, I stitched them out on stabilizer. All sizes, all designs. This allowed me to audition the designs and mark where I needed to start while my piece is hooped in the Magna hoop. It saves me from doing the algebra! BTW, the quilt I did, it started as a queen size. I'm not a quilter, that was my first. It ended up as a lap quilt! Kudos to those real quilter queens. Thank you for not editing out the BOO-BOO'S, showing how to use the tools and making it all work out. Boo ghost turned out fabulously! You crack me up!

      When I started this waaaay-back-when, I also stitched out my designs like they say to in the book. I just found the sticky paper so much easier to use. I'm so glad it worked out for you! I found that 52" by 52" wall hanging to be quite the experience too so I know now I could NEVER do a queen quilt or larger with this system. Good for you!

I've developed insecure complex..you know...scared to death of the machine...I know stupid...but thanks to you, i am invigorated and ready to head to the room and get started again. Love this video tutorial. You have a very nice way about you and are so down to earth! Thank you for all the tips and pointers, even when there was a SNAFU (career military wife here). At least it didn't turn out FUBAR! I'm new to embroidery and now I'm trying to incorporate using my embroidery machine and start quilting my own projects instead of taking them to be long armed. I have a Babylock Solaris (loving it) and a Bernina 770QE that I do my sewing/quilting on. I will look for more of your videos. I truly appreciate your sense of humor and ability to overcome all events. Blessings to you! ♥

      Thanks for your kind words! One of my commanders at one time was also a lay minister and he use the term SNAFU all the time. I asked him, "Do you know what that stands for?" He was baffled and I explained it. He was floored! He said, "Well, I never say THAT again! " lol
      You need to give Amelie Scott's Edge 2 Edge quilting a try in your Solaris. She has recently come out with a pack of jumbo designs just for that large hoop. You'll be able to quilt your projects that way very easily. I've got several videos on using the E2E system. Anything larger than a table runner, you might also consider investing in the Weightless Quilter from DIME. I have it permanently set up behind my machine to hold heavier projects. Thanks for watching and thanks for sticking with being a military spouse. It's a tough job and takes a strong soul to put up with it.

I wish my Ellagante 2 had the same foot I use on my Coronet Longarm that is a cup and just slides over edges of the quilt without getting caught. Hi Becky, great tutorial! I use the Amelie Scott edge-to-edge all the time. I'd like to give you a couple of more hints. When you advance you stitch by one (1) to bring up the bobbin thread...after I bring it up, i minus a stitch to bring it back to stitch #1. Also, I turn off my End Trim so that I don't have the short threads on the back....when you turn off the End Trim the machine will move and give you a long end tail and then you hit the cutter button. And lastly, it's a good idea to do a column of designs and then work your way to the right...after they are all done, you turn your project around and do the "B" side...this way the bulk of the quilt is always to your left. You were okay as the Boo was a wall hanging, but if it had been a quilt it would be a lot to deal with. I love your videos and love how you showed how to overcome that stitching mess on the corner...I think I would have sat and cried! lol

    • @PowerToolsWithThread
      @PowerToolsWithThread  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you SO much for all your tips! I tried the column thing as the instructions say and I don't know how but I ended up with diagonal patterns. It was a total mess. Maybe I should have marked the true vertical lines to keep me straight. My failure with that is the reason I decided to go ahead and get a longarm for anything larger than a wall hanging or table runner. But your thoughts to turn off Trim Tails is brilliant. I'll have to check the manual to see how to do that. I just love our little community. Together, we are so helpful and smart! Thanks again!

    I have her Amelia Scott designs as well. I Love it, the only thing that I need to get is the magnetic hoop. I understand what you are doing because Ive done it except I had to actually hoop it, with a regular hoop , talk about a pain . But other than that its a sweet system

    • @PowerToolsWithThread
      @PowerToolsWithThread  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely, that magnetic hoop makes all the difference. I've used a regular hoop too and if you don't have the ability to nudge/tug the fabric exactly where you need it to be, then the pain factor can be high.

  • @kathyclayton4318
    @kathyclayton4318 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    That is just adorable! I love it! I am so glad that you showed the problem that you were able to resolve. I have done a little bit of this using my Dream Machine that is similar to your machine. It will use the snowman sticker to line things up. I didn’t know it would align the pattern if it was not straight though. Wonder if mine does that? What happened to you was a big fear of mine. So much that I tried to tape my project around the edge and it created even more of an issue I think. My wall hanging is still not completed because I didn’t plan well on the placement of the design runs. Now my design runs way, way off the edge of the fabric of the project plus the extra fabric that I taped to it to allow for the pattern to sew out completely. I was wondering if I can use the + button and move the pattern forward until the design that is going to stitch is now ON the fabric again, not stitching where the design is off the fabric. I had no idea what in the world I was doing when I started this and just decided to jump in and do it and see what would happen. Well now I know that I need to plan better on where each of the stitch outs will happen rather than just “wing it”. Thanks so much. I learned a ton from this video. I love how you don’t panic! Me! I would have stopped the video and trashed the entire thing! UGH! I even have a set of those tools that you whipped out but have never used them yet. I think I will go work on that wall hanging and get it finished. I am going to remove all of the tape and try it without all of the mess of the tape. Hopefully the pressure foot won’t get caught, but if it does I know how to fix it and move on. I was doing the wall hanging as practice to get ready to do a lap-sized quilt. This was probably 6 months ago or more and the quilt is still waiting. Yes, I watched your other video that was recommended by DBJJ and that’s what gave me the initial confidence to even try it. And I even asked you questions and got some help. But I gave up when I realized that the design was going to stitch out way beyond my fabric and I just gave up. There was no way to hoop it that I could see. So I will try some of that interfacing and try to finish it. Now sure how I will cut it off where it gets stitched to the back of the project though. Oh I’ll use “wash away”. Will the sulky stuff that looks like Saran Wrap work? I’ll give that a try. Thanks so much Becky! HAPPY NEW YEAR! Keep the videos coming. I always learn something new, every single time!

    Hi, Becky. You inspired me to buy the embroidery designs. Someone may have mentioned already but you can use Scan N Cut SDX to draw the PES files. I did mine on 12x12 cardstock to test and it was great. A in red and B in blue. I will draw the longer files on freezer paper cut to size and also have the advantage of reusable stick from the back of that. Right now I'm going to test on pot holders. Too wimpy to try more! Ha.

      @@PowerToolsWithThread If you didn't want to embroider, you could at least draw the design in an erasable marker on the quilt back for free motion, etc. I think the Scan N Cut really amplifies the possibilities with those files. Like if you don't have a big enough hoop .... ????? :)

    Becky, notice when you put the A and B papers together, 10 minutes into the video, that the ends of the embroidery match up, but the tops and bottoms of the papers are about 1/4 of inch off. So if you line up the papers on your quilt, the edges will not meet. I am not sure why this happens, but I had a lot of trouble with it. So lining up the design ends, and not putting the papers in line, is very important. Just wanted to share this.

      We mostly stay in RV resorts where the comforts are within reach, e.g. no boon docking/dry camping for us. It's just too hot here not to have both AC units running and we like concrete pads. Alsatian RV is close and that's nice: close to San Antonio but not so close you're in traffic. If we were RVing for the Houston show, we've stayed at South Houston RV Resort and it's very nice. There's a FB group called RV Quilters - they have tons of recommendations for all over the US. Wish I could be more helpful but Texas is so big and there are a gazillion RV camping stops.

    Great tutorial! I’ve done a few edge to edge projects, and that magnetic hoop is invaluable, especially when doing a larger project. Becky, did you know if you hold down the start (green lit) button, it controls/slows down the stitching? That helps when you just want a few stitches at the beginning of your quilting project. I have the Quattro 3, and I’m still learning about all the capabilities it has.

      I did not know that either. I have a Brother Dream Machine and even after 5 years I am still learning about my machine too and I took a lot of classes. I went once a month for more than a year and we made a different project each month. You would think I would have learned it all but there is so much to these amazing machines that I’m not sure anyone can learn it all.

    I am new to quilting with my embroidery machine and really want to try it. What size needle do you use when you do this? Did you use the same thread in the bobbin as on the top? Did you adjust the tension of your bobbin so it does not pull tight like it normally does when you are embroidering? Nevermind - it looks like you can only do this with the sewing/embroidery combo. I have the 1700e which is embroidery only. Am I correct?

    Hi Becky! I just ordered the Edge to Edge software and your videos are wonderful!! Sooo helpful. What size Snap-Hoop are you using? It looks like an 8x12. Do you think a 7x12 snap-hoop would be too small? Thanks for your time and consideration.

    • @PowerToolsWithThread
      @PowerToolsWithThread  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If money were no option, I'd buy them all! lol But in reality, I recommend buying the largest hoop your machine can handle and mine is the 9.5" x 14". In my most recent video (Quilting With Your Embroidery Machine, Part 3, March 20) I show a trick to extend the edges of your project using painter's tape and strips of stabilizer to get a good hooping on a project that is too small for the larger hoop. You can always do a small project in a larger hoop but you don't want to be limited by hoop size on a larger project. Good luck!

    Did you use a monster hoop on that hanging? I'm wondering if I need a smaller hoop to do smaller designs? In otherwords, do you tend to match size of hoop to the size of design? Or is it okay not to?

    • @PowerToolsWithThread
      @PowerToolsWithThread  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should usually use the smallest hoop you have to make a design that will fit. This prevents wasting stabilizer and eliminates a lot of play and fabric jumping inside the hoop. My next smallest hoop after my 5x7 is a 9x14...which is bigger than needed for say an 8x8 design. But I don't have any other choice at the moment. I just make sure to keep it taught. I try to match my hoops as close as possible to the design.

    Do you have batting in your design? I am assuming you do, top, batting, orange background and the WSS, is that correct?

    • @PowerToolsWithThread
      @PowerToolsWithThread  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually forgot to put batting on this one! lol I made this project at a retreat and completely forgot to add the batting. And I normally don't use WSS when I do this technique but I needed something to fully hoop the project as I neared the edge. There wasn't enough project to reach the hoop as I got closer to the sides.

  • @marionphillips5979

    Have you used the Durkee Hoops. You use a sticky stabilizer and lay fabric on top.

    • @PowerToolsWithThread
      @PowerToolsWithThread  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have those for my 7 needle but not for my single needle machine. I do have sticky stabilizer I could load in the hoop, but the idea when making a quilt is not to have any stabilizer at all on the back when finished.

    I am new to your site and also,have the Brother Quattro,6700D, also looking to learn how to do the edge to edge stippling! I am so happy to have watched your video! What size monster hoop did you use for this design in the video. Perfect Christmas gift! Do you only use one of those hoops or do you have and use several? What would you recommend?

    • @PowerToolsWithThread
      @PowerToolsWithThread  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I only have one of those hoops and if you're going to get one, due to their cost, I recommend getting the largest hoop your machine can accommodate. Mine is 9" x 14". Check your manual to see what size is the largest your machine can take. I linked to them below my video. Thanks!

      I think the book has you stitch out the designs on white scraps. Recommend interfacing them to stiffen them up.

    Hey Becky what would use for the larger patterns?

    • @PowerToolsWithThread
      @PowerToolsWithThread  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are limited by the largest hoop your machine can take. The new Luminaire and Solaris machines have ginormous hoops so those larger patterns will work in those larger hoops. Ideally, it would be cool to do two patterns at once, one on top of the other.
