    Blue Mountain Bushcraft and Outdoors is very experienced with this knife. Even likes the serrations.

    I love my LMF2 and I think the sheath system alone with the leg straps and seat belt cutter with pouch is worth more than half the entire cost of the package alone!

    After years and years reading different reviews about the LMFII, good, bad, excellent,.....I decided go after one, I ordered one online. I have to said, is a really good knife, really good. But is not for every one, if you want a pure bushcraft knife? is not for you, off course can do the job but you can find a lot of better options. A survival knife? yes you can. Camping knife? yes you can, all around knife, military knife or just a good knife to have for all this different situations ? yes, is a good knife. Now I have it, it's not my first choice, but I´m really happy with in my collection and I enjoy a lot using it on my trips.

      Joranba I feel the same way. I have the Prodigy, which is just a smaller Lmf, and its an awesome utility knife. I still take a Mora camping and hiking, but if it comes time to bug out, I'm reaching for the Prodigy.

    This Gerber knife & kit are GI issue to US Air Force SERE/air crews. They call it ATAK or ACAK something. I also think the sage green LMF II has a NSN # but I may be wrong. I own a brown/tan Gerber LMF II with the added kit. I think Gerber no longer offers that format to the general public. I paid around $85.00 from PoliceStore.com . I keep the safety tool(with tan nylon sheath) in my Jeep. By my LMF II in the Gerber sheath. I used it a few times but have not gone hunting or camping with it. I put some Ballistol on the LMF II & it's held up. No rust or problems. The blade is meant for military air crews or pilots. Some EOD & special ops units say its worked well. The knife does not have a full tang. This is to aid the cut or saw of cables or wires.

    Hey Tac. ....if it won't perform and pass your qualification with better than an 8 I won't invest the money. ..I'd rather have that $9.00 knife you threaten the Gerber with. (that was great!!!!!). Thanks again Tac Great vid brother.

    as usual great vid Tac. Just tossing in a side note, its not full tang its about 3/4 tang. Definitely agree on the final verdict tho, i do like Gerber and have a LMF 2 myself and i love it, but yeah one of Gerbers problems as seen with this knife is its a bit overpriced. and thats why i love your work, you give a good honest review and have fun doing it.

    It is a fighting knife that you could do other things with,I had the older LMF and the BMF they were killer, the sheath is made to allow for upside down carry on vest

    My opinion of Gerber is that they do have some really cool and unique (sometimes) concepts and designs but they end up dicking it up in execution. Poor material choices, bad craftsmanship, and over priced. I'll use their Downrange tomahawk as a prime example, interesting unique concept, but dicked up with its price for 420HC steel.

    • @Yogangster1995
      @Yogangster1995 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Robert N Exactly! Well said. Their recent designs have been nice, but what always keeps me away is the steel. I'm no steel snob, but I honestly can't stand 420HC. The only plus of it is corrosion resistance. That's about it. Plus for the price tags that they're laying on these blades, they should upgrade to 1095.

    • @robertn4840
      @robertn4840 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yogangster1995 I'm not really even against them using it, but the least they could do is be honest about using it and price it fair. Buck's 420HC is far better than Gerber's and they offer it at a better price for what you get and they tell you flat out that its 420HC

      Exactly my thoughts. I bought and returned three Strongarms, all of which had bevels like that bloody LMF here and where dull as f.... Two were also not straight. No more Gerber for me. Good ideas, terrible execution.

    I think you have one of the older versions Tac. That logo is the old Gerber logo. I have one of the newer versions and mine had none of those problems. Then again, they could just be outliers, but who knows. Good test nonetheless!

    Hey Tac!
    I own an older model of the Gerber and must say it's a pretty darn good knife. The bevel on mine isn't messed up though and it has not let me down yet!
    But I agree, there might be a few better knives for the pricepoint.
    Thanks for your vids and reviews!

    I just bought the smaller Prodigy IMHO its an awesome knife and I think you would like it better than the LMF. Its a great camp knife and mine came fricken razor sharp, also the grip doesn't have that stupid plastic insert (why Gerber would you do such a thing?)..
    Anyways the reason it seems over built sheath wise is because it had to be jump certified, and if ya do think about military the leg straps would be fricken way cool for spec ops guys. You should send it back to Gerber cause of that messed up bevel Tac their warranty is awesome and have them send ya the Prodigy or new Strongarm.

    bought it, used it, blade started coming loose in the handle. so I sent it back to Gerber they sent me another one few months later after I started to use it again same problem started happening so I just started using a 20$ schrade ot165. and its held up way better then the 60$ Gerber.

    TAC, about the poplar... I've seen it listed as both a weak hardwood, and a strong hardwood. It would be great for tomahawks, but due to how light it is it kinda sucks as a splitting axe handle. It would do okay as a combat ax handle.

    Say Heah Tac't, I usually don't disagree with you, But the Gerber LMF is one hell of a Tuff Knife that's Soldier Approved. And you know how I feel about survival and bush craft knives should work in both scenarios. A good Survival Knife should be a good Bush Craft Knife. But Whittling/Carving are Task Specific, I'm talking a knife that you can totally depend on in the bush, Yeah I like the Gerber LMF..

    hey tac i used my friends lmf ll has like handle scales below the molded rubber on the handle. like two peases carved out put together and then they mold rubber around it to keep the scales together. when using the blade there aperd a gap betwen the scales that was like 3mm big. and its not a fake one. It was bought on gerbers own webbsite. It seemd like a common problen that no one ever brought up. is that the case on this one?
    exuse my english. good vid as always tac keep them comming.

    I'm not sure why people bother with this one. It's not for us regular joes. Test the Prodigy instead, (which I own and I'm very happy with it, I don't go gung-ho on wood with any of my knives, I use saws for that, so the size is good for me) this is a specialized knife because of the 3/4 tang and separation between the pommel and tang, so it can cut live wires and all that. Or just test the Strongarm, which has gotten a lot of praise from other TH-cam channels.

    • @Airik1111bibles
      @Airik1111bibles 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      AGREED.... these blades are actually good for their intended purpose, the Gerber hate and stupid uninformed comments is getting so old. It only takes about 10 minutes to find the info and serious abuse test on the LMF2 which proves they are very good knives. My Prodigy came razor freaking sharp and the serrations are wicked in the woods I have really become a fan of these blades.

    • @WitchyWagonReal
      @WitchyWagonReal 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      ha 2 years later... I own all three, and beat the piss out of all of them camping/touring. The LMF gets the most abuse due to its size-- but its plastic inner frame cracked the first time I used it to baton logs for a fire. However, I just kept using it to see when it would disintegrate, and it has held up "broken" for a while now. Ideally, this is what I want: A knife with the design of the Prodigy, the steel and sheath of the LMF, and the size of the Strongarm (handle is too thin). It's worth 60... if I had to take ONE, Prodigy, bc design is simple. But goddang, Gerber needs to put the serrations on the Right side of the blade... so annoying.

    • @YoteNationest

      I just picked up a strongarm in fde. tan with no serrations man it is a good looking and feeling knife!

  • @toddklekotka3340
    @toddklekotka3340 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    I noticed that this knife is identical to the Bear Grylls survival knife. I have one of the BG knives, its not bad but I see no purpose for the serrations. I do like the handle though, comfortable and grippy. Its not worth the $ imo, for $25-30 then yeah. Though Im impressed with their Strong arm model, especially for being 420HCSS, which is probably their best model for its price. I am surprised you didn't break this one! Lol, until next time.... :)

    the handle on mine just broke about 1 7/8"s of an inche back from the tip of the pommel. That seems to be where the metal pommel meets the non metallic spine of the handle. Looks like just the rubber outer handle material holds the two together. Hmmmm. I wonder what the infantry guys would think about that?

    I got another gerber knife like that one, not sure the model but walmart sold it for 50, they still do but a model without the serration now. I got one with, for 5 bucks, (no sheath) it was a display model. The guy there just wanted to get rid of a bunch of old knifes that were hiding in a bucket and sold it to me wanting to see a destruction video.
    If I ever get a camera and can make that video, I'll totally let you know. The guy wanted to know if it was full tang or not since it's not described to be.
    I probably wont smash it just to smash it but I'll definitely be extra rough on it.
