Both apps are supplemental. I don’t believe anyone has become fluent in a new language solely using Pimsleur. Personally, I prefer the LingQ immersion method over set lessons, which IMO are often boring and monotonous. Though admittedly, LingQ could and should be better at explaining how to properly use the app, because I can definitely see it being overwhelming for a beginner.
Just found your site and glad I did. Thanks for the great descriptions! I've just finished Rosetta Stone and am looking for the next step. Rosetta Stone didn't take me as far as I want to go. I need structure and don't do well in a gaming environment, so it's Pimsleur for me. I have a yearly subscription, so it will be my next focus. Thanks again for the breakdown. :)
I want to learn Spanish, and the reason is because I love its Latin roots and I think it would be a lot easier to achieve as a second language than some other languages. Additionally, I would like to study abroad once I get to grad school, and I think knowing a second language would really strengthen my T10 MBA application.
Really enjoyed the video. Taking everything you said into consideration I say DO BOTH For about $40 a month (less than an average night out) you get the best of both worlds, structured lesson plans, pronunciation aids, reading drills, and flashcards from Pimsleur, and then an enjoyable immersive experience with Lingq (and you just can't beat immersion). I definitely agree on Pimsleur first then Lingq because immersion can be makeshift much easier than structured lessons
Awesome ! Spot on comparison between Pimsleur and LingQ😊. For me it's definitely gotta be Pimsleur ! So easy to navigate and soooo affordable . Love learning new languages..Would love to learn French and Spanish as it's the second most commonly spoken languages in the city where I live 😊.
Sooner or later you’re going to need massive amounts of input and a convenient way to consume that input along with a way to track your progress (ie known words), and you won’t find a better tool than Lingq.
i don't necessarily love lingq but i have no idea how pimsleur gets so much praise. i admittedly only tried the first lesson, but it was a 30 minute slogfest in which i "learned" like 4 or 5 new words. they broke down senorita into 4 syllables and then said the work 5 times asking you to repeat after every syllable and then word. not only was this mind numbing, but it would take like 20 times the lessons they have on offer to get any sort of vocabulary. maybe my opinion is skewed because i'm not a total beginner but i don't really see how you are ever going to learn anything with this system
Thank you very much for this video. Even though I'm German, I think my English is good enough to give Pimsleur a try. Maybe I'll just get the first Spanish lesson from Audible to get a first impression.
This is such a great tool that I’ll definitely be using. I want to learn Spanish over any other language and become fluent in it only because most of my family speaks Spanish and I struggle to communicate with them :/
LingQ would be good for upper intermediate students independently preparing for reading and listening examination assignments. Pimsleur would be much better for beginners and lower intermediate students. Creo yo!
How far does pimsleur take you? I’m thinking if it gets you through the foundation then it might be best to do pimsleur and then switch to linq when you finish but if it takes you into genuine fluency and maintenance of fluency then you just need it alone.

Not a bad strategy at all!
Thank you very much. I was looking for a video like this for a long time. As always you made a very clear video that explains everything perfectly!!
I like Pimsleur a lot, I access it for free from my local library using the Libby app. It is very expensive otherwise I can’t lie.

Interested in trying LingQ as a supplement, at least. Steve Kaufman is a genius.
Sooner or later you’re going to need massive amounts of input and a convenient way to consume that input along with a way to track your progress (ie known words), and you won’t find a better tool than Lingq.
Thank you so much. I’ve been looking for this kind of information. Thank you!
I want to learn spanish. Took a break for a while and want to get back into it again!

If you were to supplement it w/ a vocabulary/extended phrase list, or even assimil, you can expect to be somewhere around A2-Low B1 level...
@@ib3scope that’s not very far. I am 1/2 way through b1 and I don’t feel like I am anywhere near kindergarten level.
Pimsleur is one the the best in the world..is the only one te be on par with Rocket⭐️
