Day 2 On The Great West Way Road Trip - Bath To Devizes

- Exploring Bath, Somerset - it’s the second day of the #TheGreatWestWay trip and we take a tour of the Roman Baths. There is a good audio guide and usually a few Roman characters to interact with along the way so you can practice your Monty Python “What have the Romans ever done for us?”

As Mel is a jewellery fan we had chance to visit Nicholas Wylde jewellers in the centre of Bath. The city has lots of independent retailers and there is lots of great shopping so watch your credit card. There is plenty to do in Bath and its definitely worth spending at least a couple of days there.
Before lunch it was tour time with Around And About Bath, a tour is one of the best way to get to know a city. You can find out more about the main sites, also the more unusual and darker side of Georgian life (we left out the toilet references!)
After lunch at Koffmann And Mr White’s which is in the centre of the city just behind bath Abbey it was off to the village of Lacock and Lacock Abbey. Lacock is a quaint Wiltshire village and Lacock Abbey has been used as a film location in a number of famous films. The biggest being Harry Potter.
Finally it was a dash to Devizes Marina, Wiltshire for a stay at the Devizes Marina lodge which overlooks the canal boats, our lodge had a hot tub on the deck area, a great way to relax!

It's still popular, people are still visiting after 2000 years.
After being in Asia for the last 6 weeks i would love some cold weather where I could see my breath. It always amazes me what the Romans were able to build so many years ago. Bath looks like a wonderful town to visit
It's a great city with a lots to do in a compact area, you can walk to most places. It did snow later on the trip.
I'm trying to figure out whether or not I've ever been to Bath. I did a very quick exploration of England when I was 20. I think I would have remembered being in the middle of the circle and clapping my hands for everyone to hear me! I'm surprised you didn't. Disappointed really. Let's go back, do a yodel and hit up Koffmann And Mr White’s because that food looked amazing!
Yodelling or any other bodily noise will be a big hit with the residents. I think Nicolas Cage owns one of the houses.
I visited Bath long ago but there wasn't nearly as much to see and do. Loved the jewelry vendor in his red robes!
The Roman characters in the Baths are very funny.

The water in the original bath has a nice shade of green with a brownish layer on top and the bath is lined with lead, so not that appealing. However, not far away is a modern complex and spa with a rooftop pool and all the spa packages you want.
