For me, the story would be that you, the player, are a demon, all the characters like Toriel or Papyrus trying to esorcise you, failing and dying in the attempt, and Sans is one of the last esorcists, able to stop you. or (ho maybe just is a reference to jojos)
I would think that toriel and papyrus will see you but also that you still may have redemption, but by the time you meet sans, he sees that you are far past that, pulling at all the stops to remove you
At the end of the genocide route, sans would realize that you are too far gone from being exorcised from the grasp of the devil. Realizing this, he decides to simply end you as he sees that there is no other choice. Hoping to end your massacre.

kinda late but i really love the touches of religion horror on this and with a melancholic feeling about it, i always felt that religious horror needs to be explored more than just devils, possessions and that other stuff, but I can see why many are afraid to get into it...
If you guys who is this sans...it the same au...yeah undertale but in this one sans actually in his real size (prove from code in the game file) and take his job seriously as a loyal judge...his normal stats it around: 800 or 3750 HP...5 or 8 ATK...15 DEF (without his armour) or 280 DEF (with his armour...it the clothes he wearing now)...his stamina it around 2 hours fight...when he enter his phase 2 he don't dodge anymore... because he have enough def and hp he tank your damage for another hours...so because he doesn't dodge anymore in phase 2 he can attack you harder than phase 1...in phase 2 when you try fight...you need press the attack when it on the green side...if you tap it on yellow side sans block it and if you tap on red side sans parry and damage you...and finally phase 3...he in his low HP and stamina so it just around 2 or 3 minute survives phase...he using 5 different special attacks before it get your trun...than he die...if you guys think it a cool story about this sans you can like because my hand hurt ;D
