- What’s needed for a mains water connection on your caravan or camper?
Here we share the difference between a standard water filler and a true mains water connection. Serious damage can occur to your caravan plumbing and appliances if they are subject to full mains water pressure. Our video helps you understand the differences and make sure that your connection is safe for mains water pressure you can also learn how to do this simple modification yourself, if you don’t already have a suitable mains water inlet.
Our parts list is posted in the comments, feel free to buy them wherever you like, we do not receive any commission from the links, we just find that this supplier always has the parts we are looking for.
Parts list for the modification as shown
Shurflo City Water Inlet (this is the main inlet) www.caravansplus.com.au/shurflo-mains-pressure-regulator-water-inlet-black-usa-f-npt-34-p-16480.html?products_id=16480
1/2 inch female adapter (connects to the back of the inlet) www.caravansplus.com.au/shurflo-mains-pressure-regulator-water-inlet-black-usa-f-npt-34-p-16480.html?products_id=16480
Push in elbow (push this into the female adapter) www.caravansplus.com.au/12mm-jg-push-in-12mm-push-on-elbow-p-6988.html?products_id=6988
Push on divider (use this to create a 2 into one connection cut the hose on the outlet side of you water pump and push the single end onto the pipe on the van side of the pump) www.caravansplus.com.au/12mm-john-guest-push-on-divider-p-13307.html?products_id=13307
Non return valve (install this between the pump outlet and one of the divider inlets - note, the arrow should point away from the pump, water can not flow in the other direction) www.caravansplus.com.au/12mm-john-guest-push-on-divider-p-13307.html?products_id=13307
Some extra water pipe (your need this to make connections between your new fittings, perhaps a metre or two depending on your setup) www.caravansplus.com.au/water-12mm-john-guest-semi-rigid-pipe-push-in-blue-per-metre-p-6983.html?products_id=6983
Locking clips (theses are optional, but we strongly recommend using them on EVERY connection to ensure that your John Guest fitting can not accidentally disconnect or leak) www.caravansplus.com.au/red-locking-clip-suit-12mm-fittings-p-6984.html?products_id=6984
Hi Craig, excellent info. Just a quick note to let you know the inline valve and the female adapter link appear to take you to the prior part listed. Great work
This was explained perfectly! Understand the systems so much better, thanks!
You’re welcome 👍
I can't tell you how useful this has been! I've got an old van and want to add a water pump and a single tap (at the moment its a manual hand pump tap and a mains tap that just blasts water out) and have been trying to work how to to incorporate mains water. I was hoping it was something simple like this. Thank you!
It is pretty straightforward and easy DIY if you use the John Guest push fittings. Check our other videos, we did one on how to use John Guest fittings if you’re looking for a guide and we also posted a link in the comments of that video to an online store in Australia that has a wide range of fittings. If you follow us on Facebook, then feel free to message us there if you’ve got any questions 👍
Exactly what I want. Thank you😊
No problem 👍
Very clear and helpful! I just checked the instructions for the water pump, and I think there is already a build in check valve inside the pump. Do we still need to install the one way valve? Thank you
In theory, the check valve in the pump will do the job but it’s not very expensive to put one inline and it takes the pressure load off the pump as well as giving you an additional fail safe.
Very helpful, thank you....
You're welcome!
Seaflow actually make the same thing, and there are many non branded options for around $25
Thank you!
You’re welcome 👍
Hi Craig, have you though of adding an inline tap to the pump outlet line.?
You can semi close to help with water consumption without effecting pressure.
You could certainly do that but if you want to restrict flow, I find it better to do it at the other end (ie closer to the outlet that you want to restrict)
A really simple way to do it is to insert a smaller diameter hose or restrictor into the water pipe. This is how the toilet flush flow is restricted on Thetford Toilets. Have a look at our video on that, it might give you ideas if you are wanting to restrict flow at other outlets without affecting all outlets 👍

Can u use grey water tank 2 use fresh water
@@PatrickCARUANA-q8g you would need to change the drain plumbing on the internal shower and both sinks as they are connected to the grey water tank. You already have 200 litres of fresh water capacity and if you have a look at our “water management” video, I show you how we carry an additional 110 litres and refill our water tanks when we are off-grid
Can't see your comment with the parts list
thanks for letting us know Ryan, I have posted the comment again so please let us know if you still can't see it
