- This is a rare song that was not available in the internet archive until recently. Most malayalees would have listened to "Polthingal kala" by KJ Yesudas from the malayalam movie Kumarasambhavam. But here we present the tamil version of the same song. Today being the 7th death anniversary of the music legend Dr Balamuralikrishna, we didn't find a better day to share this song. What a lovely rendition! Deepu , you reflect Dr BMK in full intensity.
This a is a song in which Dr.Balamuralikrishna (Devarajan of classical music) and Devarajan Maashu (Balamuralikrishna of Movie music) merge into a classical movie music.
Both are legends whom time can’t wipe away at all from the memory of music lovers.One can feel the happy blend of the creativity of both the stalwarts of the two different areas of music.
Everyone knows our pride Dasettan had sung the Malayalam version of the song. I remember having heard in the early seventies from my the then music friends that it was BMK who sang the song first. And Dasettan sang the Malayalam version later. The lyrics was written first in Malayalam by the great ONV and then before BMK sang, the contents of the song and its spirit were translated into Tamil. These are all stories which were in the air in those times. Anyhow this is a rare gem which remained hidden till recently before Jayaram Sataluri Sir uploaded it in the TH-cam.
Deepu, I don’t know how to express my joy in hearing the BMK version in its fullest glory but in your voice. The ragabhava of Kalyani is at its best with all the Gamakaas shining like pol thinkal (Golden Moon) in a cloudless horizon.

wonderful composition of guruji and who rendered by him the details of the guruji singing and voice melody reflected exactly the ease and style of dr. Your comments are very dear to me. Your comments always seem to be truer and more invaluable than dry statements of simple facts. They contain emotions of genuine love and sincerity too. The BMK Garu version has more perfection and superior Ragabhava, as per my assessment.
Deepu was maintaining (months earlier when we met) that Dr. BMK sang more slowly and therefore could contain more details. But Deepu has sung with almost the same speed as that of dear Dasettan. And Deepu’s singing contains more details and raagabhava. I hope my affection for Deepu does not blind my eyes when true judgement matters more than simple emotions.

As you and Deepak sir have rightly pointed out, Dr. BMK has indeed sung it slowly and more rAgabhAva. And the lower sruti makes it more deep and profound. We can visualize Dr. BMK as Narada traveling towards Kailasa while singing this song. As I have mentioned in the original recording, he has channeled his portrayal of Narada in the Telugu movie Bhaktha Prahalada a few years earlier. Truly a sensational musician who made music accessible to the entire world and we are all enriched by it.
