I’m currently in the process of making a chicken tractor with the scraps from this build. It’s a crazy rush project but it’s basically a mini version of the coop in this video lol. I have another video that’s been sitting at about 50% complete and just haven’t had time to do it but I really need to. Believe me when I was making these I was dreaming of reaching a wide audience of people that were also in love with the hobby/lifestyle, but the algorithm is trash so it didn’t work out that way. But I’m definitely dropping another video and have footage of several more that I’ll eventually try to do. So much has happened it’s crazy! It’s been a great coop so far, couple things I would have done differently that I’m going to talk about in the next video, thank you again for watching and the kind words!
Depending on breed 4-6 months old to lay. Only thing u might add, at big door a removable board to hold back litter until u r ready to clean out. Think about deep litter system if u haven't yet. Ultimate easy care! Great design & attractive
I am doing the deep litter method and I’ve also put a board in front of the wall that swings out to keep everything in! So far I can’t see why everyone wouldn’t do the deep litter method it is extremely simple and requires very little maintenance. Thank you for looking out and for watching the video!
@@TheReaper1 - Good job. I also liked your edging. I use the deep litter method, too. I had purchased my original coop which is still in use, but last year I built a smaller coop myself (I'm 65) and both coops are on the ground. I have electric fencing (but not charged) around the run with one easy-up canopy for shade and another canopy with no top which also holds up bird netting to keep out predators. So far, so good.
I thought the edging would help the asthetic a bit as well as up the defense of the hardware cloth under it. That’s great that you recently built a coop of your own! It proves age is just a number! How many chickens do you have now with 2 coops? They sound like great set ups! It’s very encouraging to hear you’ve been raising chickens all this time and are an advocate for the deep litter method. Thank you for watching the video and good luck with your 2 flocks!

Thank you! The chickens have been mostly great, had a bit of an incident but coop has been working great! Check out the latest video for the next step in my chicken endeavors if you’d like more!
First thing that happened to me when I put the door on our coop/run was lock myself inside, too. 🤣 Love the idea of painting the hardware cloth though, it practically vanished as you covered it. I'm going to be doing that to mine this year now.
I'm glad I wasn't the only one it happened to! Yes painting the hardware cloth black was a game changer, can see right through it likes its not even there. Also for taking pictures and video purposes, the lens no longer focuses on the wiring as much! Thank you for watching I appreciate it!
I have a “chicken coop” playlist for when t star to build my own, guess what video just made it into that list 😂 Also, who would’ve thought that painting the mesh wire black would’ve made the coop look clearer, less cloudy and more se through 🤔. Like how 🤣🤷🏻♀️ Thanks for sharing. Lovely ladies btw… (not the chickens 🐓) 😊
Well it’s an honor to have made your list! Yes the other benefit of the mesh being black is taking pictures of the inside of the coop when they’re roosting etc. With it unpainted the camera will only focus on the wires but once it is painted black it looks right through! Thank you for watching and good luck on your build! I’ll let the wife and kid know as well lmao
Great job on the video! I am getting ready to build coop pretty similar to yours. Have watched several videos but I have to say yours is the most entertaining! Good music! I gave you a thumbs up and a sub, you deserve it! Keep up the good work.
Thank you very much! I tried to give it as much bells and whistles as I could while still trying to use mostly recycled materials from jobsites as well as keeping my bank account in the positive! 😆
Hahaha, I swear I’m not! I’m a Master Electrician, with my only carpentry experience being some small projects around my own house and now this coop lmao. Thank you for watching the video I’m glad you liked it!
This was so enjiyable to watch. I need to build another coop for my chickens. Watching you I think I might be able too. Hooefully mine turns out as well as yours. 😊
Why thank you very much! I’m glad you enjoyed the video! Just take it one step at a time it’s not as hard as you think. It’ll definitely take a little bit of time but after few weekends you’ll be sitting back drinking some tea and reaping the rewards! Thanks for watching and good luck!
So after making the automatic coop door video I was planning on making the water system next, but noticed almost no one was watching the coop door install video. So I put it on the back burner for now and am currently making another video regarding the coop and the next step in its evolution and of raising chickens that will be bigger and better than this video. I may eventually do one but until I have enough of an audience it’s a lot of editing and time to get little to now views at the moment. Thank you for inquiring though!
I'm telling you, I went right into survival mode and started decided which chicken I liked the least lmao! Thank you for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed my near death experience!
Thank you, I wasn’t sure since I’ve had one so long lol. Since then I’ve let it grow back in a little but perhaps I’ll trim it back down for summer! Thank you for the coop praise as well, at first I wasn’t sure how it would look stained, but I was happy the final result had a more natural feel to compliment the trees surrounding it instead of standing out a lot like a painted one would have. Thank you again so much for watching I really appreciate it!
I enjoyed this video. The edits were so awesome, it. Just goes to show that with just a little bit of experience and a little bit of problem solving and common sense. You can really do anything if you put your mind to it. As long as it holds through the weather and keeps predators out. You're a-okay well plus happy chickees. 😂🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Yes predrilling prevents the wood from splitting keep in mind however make sure the drill bit isn't larger than the screw threads. At least enough for it to bite
Thank you very much I’m glad you enjoyed the video! So far the coop has held up to some crazy storms, massive snowfall, bears, foxes, and even an earthquake!
Thank you very much! It may look like a lot but if you just take it one step at a time before you know it, it’s complete and your sitting back watching the chickens run around!
Thank you James! You’re doing it at the perfect time! Spring is here and chicks are starting to go for sale all over. Good luck on your build and thank you for watching!
That’s awesome to hear! It’s going to be an amazing experience! I only have 3 videos out now about them but there are more in the making! Good luck with your new chickens!

After watching so many videos i think this is it!!! I absolutely love it and so entertaining to watch. you are such a funny guy. One question though, do you have a link to the sand you used? I have no clue what the sand looks like up close. Thank you for sharing your coop design. Oh and fyi... the short beard was not a mistake. Looks good on you!
Why thank you very much! I’m glad you enjoyed the video and my random thoughts through out the build lol. So on to the sand, after doing a bunch of research for the best run material “All purpose Constructed sand” was the winner. I got it at Home Depot and I’ll provide a link to it. It’s a little more coarse than “play sand”. People that did the research said “play sand” was a no no because it’s particles are too fine. If I were to do it again I would use more sand and have my coarse rocks even lower. I found out pretty quickly the chickens like to use the all purpose sand as make shift dust baths at times and will dig a hole that’s 8 inches deep, which in turn shoots out the larger rocks I placed for irrigation to shoot all over the place in the process! It doesn’t ruin anything other than when I “Poop Scoop” I often am scooping up those large rocks and just throwing them away as well. (So maybe don’t use any large stones) Hope this helps! Thank you for the compliment on the beard too! www.homedepot.com/p/Quikrete-50-lb-All-Purpose-Sand-115251/100318450 Thank you again for watching and good luck on your future build and chickens! I’m actually in the process of starting to edit chapter 2 of the build and my next adventure with chickens. Fingers crossed it is even better (ran into some serious bumps in the road with this one).
@@TheReaper1 thanks again for sharing. I need to get started on a coop because I got five chicks 2weeks ago and they are getting really big. Hope I will catch your next edit to the coop. I truly enjoyed every bit of your video and found it very informative. Oh and one more thing, if you don’t mind, what are the dimensions for the actual coop and the dimensions for the run? Again thank you
@@saveforthree you better get a move on it then! 😆 As far as the coop size I’ll have to run out and measure it tomorrow but I’d say the coop is about 5’ 6” x 5’ 6” and the run itself is around 14-16’ including the area under the coop that is fenced in (hardware cloth) that’s a rough estimate but I feel it is somewhat accurate. I was using old lumber for the most part and stuff I got as scraps from jobsites. I’ll try to get some measurements tomorrow real quick in the morning. Thanks again!
Unfortunately the closest thing I made to plans were the quick blueprints I drew up in the beginning of the video. I did put links in the description to all of the material I used aside from lumber if that helps at all. I may make some in the future but most of my measurements I was just winging it and adjusting things for the size of the scrap lumber I was using (I was trying to be as cheap as possible lol) thank you again for watching and good luck on your coop build!
I have to say the choice of music really elevates this to movie format. I was half expecting Indiana Jones to swing by, chicken under arm, at the 21 minute mark. He would have rescued you from the lock in!
Lmao thank you! I tried my best to make building a chicken coop as entertaining as possible with the edits. My latest video is of making a brooder and hatching an assortment of chicks, of which I'm working on a part 2 now but life has slowed me down. Should be even more cinematic than this if you're interested. Thank you for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
Thank you very much! Maybe someone working for hgtv or discovery channel will see this lmao! Couldn’t imagine, thank you for watching and I’m glad you enjoyed it! More to come soon I’m beginning to edit the footage now.
So the rough measurements from the side id say the coop itself (housing for the hens) is 5’ x 5’ 6”. The run from under the coop to the end with the rain collection is about 5’ 6” x 14’. At it’s tallest where the 2 peaks meet I’d say it stands at around 9’ - 9’ 6”.
Thanks a lot Vatialz! I learned a lot from Fin! I had a lot ton of footage to work with and tried to make it as interesting as possible while also showing every stick of the build being resurrected. Hopefully this inspires you to build one some day! Lmao 🤣 thanks for watching and commenting I seriously appreciate it!
You just gotta take it one piece at a time! It seems like a lot when you see the finished product. Getting an extra set of hands is a huge help too! Coops come in all shapes and sizes, just do a little work each day and before you know it you’ll be throwing chickens in! Good luck on your build!
This was great. I'm looking to build one myself, couldn't keep up with everything you was doing. Trying to find something with a little more direction. Don't know if you have more info, if so I would appreciate it
Thank you for watching I appreciate it! Unfortunately this video is about as detailed as I have of the build. A lot of it was done with scrap lumber etc so the measurements are all over the place. I have faith in you though. Just start slowly doing one section at a time and before you know it you’ll be ready to get chickens!
Could you leave a listing of the music you used? My wife and I really liked the song that appeared at 22:15 into the video. Been around the world but couldn't place it: Eastern European, Mediterranean, Indian, African? I loved Sade...Please let us know! We watched because we are almost 2 weeks into our brooder and we got to start our build soon and your design was spectacular! Cheers, Mac
Thank you very much for watching and inquiring about the music. I’m a fan of many genres. That particular song is Love Nwantiti by CKay, he’s a Nigerian singer. He sings in a version of English and a mix of his native tongue I forget the name of the language off hand. It has a great flow and Rhythm to it. I have a list of all the songs in my description though they are not necessarily in chronological order. It sounds like you guys have not time to spare so spend this weekend coming up with a game plan and start building! Those chicks will be ready to go before you know it! Thank you again for watching and good luck Mac!
Thank you very much! It was a fun build and has been holding up very well! Good luck! I will say if you plan on doing the deep litter method cut the opening to the chickens door a little higher than I did so the bedding doesn’t fall out!
I love this video so much I've watched it twice already... I'm duplicating this and starting soon myself. I have one question... did you do any pest control for the gaps in the roof? And if so, what did you do or use?
Well I’m glad you liked it so much! Took a hell of a long time to edit lol! So as far as the roof goes I’m assuming you’re talking about the ribs that have gaps. Technically there are brackets you can buy at Home Depot or Lowe’s that fit perfectly on the studs and you screw through them. This prevents the metal from bending if you sink the screws too deep etc. I haven’t had any pest problems with these. Only thing I could think of would be bees maybe, but I haven’t seen any yet and I’m out there everyday so if I did see a nest starting I’d break out the “shredder” Bug assault gun I have that is co2 powered lmao. Other than that the two eaves that meet between the two roofs have a 2x4 that prevent anything large from getting in, but…… I do have have 2 morning doves that made a nest under it that I didn’t have the heart to boot out just yet. Hope this helps! Good luck on your build! Oh and if you wanted to prevent something like that I know they make these metal spikes (essentially just bent metal rod) that stop birds from perching in areas. Thanks for watching again!
Thanks for the info... I appreciate it a ton... Once I get home I'm going to be drawing it all out to my specs.. Mine will be a tiny bit smaller just to cut on materials.. Great job on yours man...
I found my answer to my question below. "Love Nwantiti" is a song by Nigerian singer and songwriter CKay, released in 2019 as the second track from his second extended play Ckay the First by Chocolate City through Warner Music Group. The song has become a commercial success in Nigeria, the Middle East, North Africa and in many European club venues. It has even been translated into French vocals by French rapper Franglish. My African/Mediteranean guess was the closest with respect to the vocals and my guess about India didn't hold up with the instrumentation. Great Build! Mac

After starting it last night I realized it would be perfect for people with smaller flocks in mind (4 chickens) So I’ll be sure to share that next. Thank you again for such high praise and good luck on your build!
Tht was awesome, glad you were rescued out the coop😂 that was very entertaining as well and also love the music
Thank you! Yes I was probably 5 more minutes away from eating one of the chickens lmao. I’m glad you were entertained and my music choices were appreciated! Stay tuned I’ll be dropping another video in a couple weeks that should be even better than this one!
the music is on point. diversity.
aah man.. this was pure gold. was so sad to realize there was only 2 chicken videos on this account. By far my favorite brood"daddy" on here so far..
Lmao never heard of that term before. Yeah unfortunately life got in the way and the videos were pretty dead for a while so I stopped trying to make content since it took up so much time. Thank you for the support and hopefully I can live up to this “Brood Daddy” Title (praying it’s a good thing) lol
@@TheReaper1 yeah, i was pretty proud of that term... now reading it a 2nd time i can see how it can be preceded in different ways. It was meant in platonic way possible ,D looking forward to see when it comes and interested in hearing how it has evolved over the years.
@@TheReaper1keep going!! I’m only 2 minutes in and I’m already impressed and looking forward to the rest of it!! I bet it won’t take near as long to knock out the other half of that video in progress!! I can’t wait!!
@@firthgirl thank you I hope you enjoyed the videos
Excellent work big papi! Best in the business right here
Lmao Thank you! I tried my best with the recycled material that I had!
Awesome,Coop love it
Thank you very much Madeline!
LOVED this video. VERY well done! You’re a funny, entertaining guy
Thank you very much I’m glad you enjoyed the adventure! Stay tuned for more, my next video is going to be even better!
Thank you for the great humor and coop building tips!
Your welcome! Thank you for watching the video! It took a ton of time to film and edit so I’m glad it is getting to as many people as it is!
Thank you!
Have over 100 chick/adult (including Roo's) on less than a 1/4 of a urban block. Include 3 adult goats, 3 Billy kids, 6 rabbits, (with 10+ 'kits'), 4 turkeys, (1 hen, 3 toms [hello Thanksgiving].
This is giving me HOPE for urban farming!
Sounds like you have quite the urban homestead going! Must not ever be a dull moment there! Good luck with your farm and thank you for watching the video!
This is such an awesome video! I love the coop too
Thank you very much Rachel! I tried my best to record the whole process and spent more time than I’d like to admit editing it lol. I plan on making more of the same quality so stay tuned!
Best coop design I’ve seen. Congratulations ❤️👏
Thank you for the incredibly kind words! I’ve actually recently taken my journey a step further now with a new edition to the chicken coop! You should check it out if you liked this video!
Such an enjoyable watch!
Thank you I’m glad you liked it! I’m working on a similar video now with the chickens, hopefully it’s just as good or better!
@@TheReaper1 You have inspired me to draw my plans and get to work on my chicken coop! Thank you.
@@maryfrederickson2526 That’s awesome news! Good luck you got this!
You're so entertaining. Thanks for doing this. My family is also planning to build a coop soon. Your video makes me more excited for our build!
Thank you very much! Great to hear it’s giving you motivation as well, you’ll definitely have fun doing it! Good luck and thanks for watching!
Okay it might be out of left field but your wife’s Hunter boots!!!!!!❤❤❤
Loved the video. We are in the middle of building right now. It was very helpful
Well she said thank you very much lol. Sounds like you guys are building late in the season like I was when I started the project! How many chickens are you getting?
Wow! What a great video! It was so enjoyable to watch. You’re super funny 😂😂
Thank you very much I’m glad you enjoyed! I’m a bit slow with the uploads unfortunately but have one more video since this and another in the works! Thank you for watching again! Hopefully I can step my game up soon!
Love the coop!!! Great video!!! Good luck with the chickens.
Thank you! The chickens have been mostly great, had a bit of an incident but coop has been working great! Check out the latest video for the next step in my chicken endeavors if you’d like more!
First thing that happened to me when I put the door on our coop/run was lock myself inside, too. 🤣
Love the idea of painting the hardware cloth though, it practically vanished as you covered it.
Fun video. Loved the music. Took some ideas from it. Thank you so much!
Thank you for watching, I’m glad you enjoyed it! Good luck on your coop I hope you have just as much fun with your build!
thoroughly entertaining video. Thanks for the good music too.
Hey I appreciate the view and the comment, I’m glad you enjoyed! Hopefully it inspired you!
I have a “chicken coop” playlist for when t star to build my own, guess what video just made it into that list 😂
Also, who would’ve thought that painting the mesh wire black would’ve made the coop look clearer, less cloudy and more se through 🤔. Like how 🤣🤷🏻♀️
Thanks for sharing.
@@captnjerry4950 thank you I’m glad you enjoyed the video! Good luck with your coop and I hope to have more content soon!
I totally love your cool❣️❣️❣️🫶
Thank you very much! I tried to give it as much bells and whistles as I could while still trying to use mostly recycled materials from jobsites as well as keeping my bank account in the positive! 😆
the multiple timelapses were so salifying!!!! the part where u wrote "(the chickens)" made me lol
Thanks a lot dude! Sorry I’m camping in the mountains and have no service just seeing this!
Not a carpenter/no experience seeming pretty sus by the end of this video😂. Looks great!👍
Hahaha, I swear I’m not! I’m a Master Electrician, with my only carpentry experience being some small projects around my own house and now this coop lmao. Thank you for watching the video I’m glad you liked it!

So beautiful and love the video. Y'all are so funny. Thank you very much for sharing.

When is the full water system install coming? Looks like the perfect setup! Keep up the good work.
Very nice. Great job.
Thank you very much! I’m glad you enjoyed!
Lol… I hollered at the 33min mark. You called it a “oh shit handle”… then you said “I almost ate them….” I’m hollering 😂😂😂😂😂
I'm telling you, I went right into survival mode and started decided which chicken I liked the least lmao!

Great video and edit guys.
Thank you!
Epic coop!!
Thank you very much!
I think your beard looks great. The coop project looks great.
Loved watching your video! You make it look SO easy! 🤔 worth watching more than once for sure!
Thank you very much! It may look like a lot but if you just take it one step at a time before you know it, it’s complete and your sitting back watching the chickens run around!
Thanks for the help

Thank you very much!
I heard music from the Wyatt Earp soundtrack! I'm sure of it! What I'm not sure of is why I'm so excited about this!

Thank you again for watching and good luck on your future build and chickens!
As far as the coop size I’ll have to run out and measure it tomorrow but I’d say the coop is about 5’ 6” x 5’ 6” and the run itself is around 14-16’ including the area under the coop that is fenced in (hardware cloth) that’s a rough estimate but I feel it is somewhat accurate. I was using old lumber for the most part and stuff I got as scraps from jobsites. I’ll try to get some measurements tomorrow real quick in the morning. Thanks again!
I LOVE this design! Did you happen to make plans? I have to build my own coup, and have been looking. Thanks!!!
Going and buying my material now!!!!!
Tis the season! Now is the perfect time to start
This was very entertaining, should have your own tv show…👏🏾👏🏾✊🏾✌🏾
Thank you very much! Maybe someone working for hgtv or discovery channel will see this lmao! Couldn’t imagine, thank you for watching and I’m glad you enjoyed it! More to come soon I’m beginning to edit the footage now.
Looks beautiful ❤
Thank you very much I’m glad you liked it!
Awesome coop!! I know you did not have plans for the coop, but could you give me the measurements for the coop? Its perfect for what i need.
Absolutely loved this show! You've got yourself a new subscriber today 🙋♀
Well thank you very much! I’m glad you enjoyed!
Thoroughly enjoyed it. Well done to u guys, well proud from the United Kingdom 😊

Great job.
Thank you very much!
i dont know nothing abouts coops or chickens but i saw you on finzar comment section and your videos are really nicely edited 👍
Thanks a lot Vatialz! I learned a lot from Fin! I had a lot ton of footage to work with and tried to make it as interesting as possible while also showing every stick of the build being resurrected. Hopefully this inspires you to build one some day! Lmao 🤣 thanks for watching and commenting I seriously appreciate it!
chickens got a fancy home. cool music. lol
This is incredible. I need a coop but no way I can do any of that . Great video
You just gotta take it one piece at a time! It seems like a lot when you see the finished product. Getting an extra set of hands is a huge help too! Coops come in all shapes and sizes, just do a little work each day and before you know it you’ll be throwing chickens in! Good luck on your build!
Amazing, this was as entertaining as Tree House Masters! More content please!!!
Thank you very much Mr.Bagofdonuts! I haven’t seen that before but I’ll have to check it out!
Really enjoyed your project I am going to build this one for sure😊
Thank you very much! It was a fun build and has been holding up very well! Good luck! I will say if you plan on doing the deep litter method cut the opening to the chickens door a little higher than I did so the bedding doesn’t fall out!
Great design 👍
Thank you!
I love this video so much I've watched it twice already...
I'm duplicating this and starting soon myself.
I have one question... did you do any pest control for the gaps in the roof? And if so, what did you do or use?
I live in NH and we have a ton of critters in all sizes

Thank you! Cheers!
Bravo!
Thank you!
Call Spielberg, he may be interested. Forget the chicken coops. :)
Hahaha 😂
I’m glad you enjoyed thank you!
Looks real good
I found my answer to my question below. Mac
Yes Mac I sent the info to you in your original comment a little over an hour ago
Excellent! You did an amazing job. It takes skill to do this. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you very much! It was a fun project and I can’t wait to do more!
I Can tell you worked hard for it, take my subscription and a like. Godspeed
Thank you very much! Yes it was quite the project but I enjoyed every minute of it! Another video is in the works that I hope will be bigger and better! Thank you again!
I also see you’re a Valheim player! I just started playing it a few weeks back, game is a blast! Gonna be honest I didn’t make it far and I started taking it a lot more seriously once I lost everything in the ocean to what I thought was a shark… but turned out to be a serpent lol. Very cool game I’ll have to pick it up again soon!
@TheVikingReaper I just built a quail hutch completely out of recycled materials from my job and have 6 quail growing in it now. Guess that is why I got shown your video. Amazingly good editing.
I am a valheim player, love it. Have a server running if you'd like to join sometime!
@@TheOnlyPapaDragon That sounds awesome, I believe those start laying eggs as young as 6 weeks old or something super fast if I remember correctly. Thank about the editing, took a lot longer than I would have liked but I needed to see what I was capable of, and if the algorithm truly disliked me or not. Turns out it ended up working pretty nicely. I may have to take you up on that offer once I get the editing done for my next video! I actually stumbled across a channel that the guy was playing it in VR and it was still crossplay. Pretty cool mod you should check out if you haven't already!
@@TheReaper1 yes sir, 6 weeks to lay reliable. Currently trying to locate some celadons to lay me some pretty blue eggs. I'll definitely look into the VR mod! I appreciate the suggestion!
I just found your channel, and I must say this is the best design for a chicken coop I have ever seen! I wish you had a link to the plans or offered a way to purchase the plans. We'll Done!
Thank you! Yeah unfortunately the closest to blue prints was the drawing in the beginning. A lot of the lumber I used was old scrap pieces etc so I was just winging it with what I had. The windows etc were leftover from my house that I found in the attic one day too. The closest thing I have is the materials/hardware listed out if you click the Amazon links in the description. Thank you again and maybe one day in the future if I build another I will make some real solid plans!
