HBO and George RR Martin wanted more seasons. If you want to blame someone, blame Benioff & Weiss.
They didn't rush it, they actually offered the showrunners two extra seasons which the showrunners declined because they wanted to do other projects by that point. They wanted to do a Star Wars project which is now dead in the water and Confederate another HBO project which is also dead due to the subject matter... so yeah it wasn't HBO who ended the series prematurely
As stated before, it was D&D that rushed it to move on to other projects. This was HBO's cash cow, they would have gone to 20 seasons if they could have.
The storyline is complete. And they have fixed 5 seasons for a specific story arc. Hopefully this is planned well. Let's hope.

Glad D&D are not part of the show, also glad costume designer Michelle Clapton isn’t part of this series. Clapton is the the most overrated costume designer, Cersei was in the same red robes for 5 seasons, the Stark women looked impoverished just because they were from the north with those ugly white rags wrapped around their necks (Mary Queen of Scots ruled in the north yet always dressed to the fashion of the French court), the Stark men were always dressed in caveman fur , literally rugs from IKEA. Should have hired whoever did assassins creed Valhalla to design the Stark /Northmen costumes. Costumes already look better in this trailer than Clapton’s. Princess Rhaenyra is giving me Byzantine Empress in Hagia Sofia vibes.

fyi, Benioff and Weiss are who ruined the last 3 seasons of GOT. They are not involved with the project. RR Martin is very much involved HOTD, and that's what made GOT so great in the beginning.

Gonna be honest, I'm not yet ready to be disappointed again. But maintain a strong heading. With non-rushed writing that doesn't rely on spectacle for 2-3 seasons. And I'll look into House of the Dragon.

fyi, Benioff and Weiss are who ruined the last 3 seasons of GOT. All the production crew and cast made very clear hints to that once B&W took over when RR Martin made his exit on the project due to the creative differences.
House of the Dragon is already written, with a complete lore and world. It would take a lot of effort to mess this up, and seeing that RR Martin is directly involved along with a very talented production team, it's just silly to think this show will be disappointing.

Caraxes the Bloodwyrm, Prince Daemon's fearsome mount! The dragon flying toward the Red Keep early in the trailer was Syrax with Rhaenyra on top. IDK if the dragon at the very end is Caraxes though. Caraxes and Meleys are supposed to be huge dragons, even bigger than Drogon in S8 as they have been alive for decades.

I finished reading Fire and Blood last week. It’s an easy read more like a history lesson on the Targaryen family. I’m glad I read it because this trailer hit a lot of the main beats in the book and I know exactly who the key players are.

The main theme of House of the Dragon will be a blend of the Targaryen and the GOT theme, much like the music you hear in this trailer. It starts of with the Targaryen theme at 0:44, and then ends with the GOT theme at 1:21
This definitely have the classic Game of Thrones feel to it. Surely alot of potential to take over the entertainment world again

The early seasons of Game of Thrones followed the books. They had problems when they tried to write their own story. This is an original concept.

Game of thrones, westworld, now house of the dragon. What more can we ask for?
I finished reading Fire and Blood last week. It’s an easy read more like a history lesson on the Targaryen family. I’m glad I read it because this trailer hit a lot of the main beats in the book and I know exactly who the key players are.
I grabbed a copy before quarantine and felt the same, like a really detailed encyclopedia with a narrator but still detailed enough for the plot to be clear for a book to show transition so you could tell GRRM was careful with his storybuilding and continuing to keep the details of valaryia a secret
I am so shocked that they included some of the details, I thought never ! Thrones didn’t do much history background. Never would imagine they’d do Council of 101 and show The Old King. Harrenhal looks amazing! Also just doing the plot with the egg Daemon took for his child that died, that’s incredible detail that could have been done in dialog. Wow.

I highly doubt the show will follow the books 100%. There's quite a lot of content in Fire & Blood, they can't fit it all in the show.
Personally, I hope we get to see a flashback to the reign of Jaehaerys Targaryen. The only king who ever participated in a trial by combat.

The Targaryen theme playing in the background is so amazing. Daenerys' themes from S1-S6 had an oriental feel to it, but this one feels very Westernized. Ramin Djawadi is such a blessing to the world.
Makes a lot of sense tho, since Dany was raised in eastern cultures while most of the Targs here all grew up in Westeros. Good composing.

So many key details are already being showcased, it's great. There looks to be the great council at Harrenhal, how someone tames a fully-grown dragon, the throne room looking almost unrecognisable under Viserys' opulent and non-confrontational style, Criston Cole slipping into brutality.
Got didnt exactly go light on the gore so I know they’ll be some pretty nasty scenes especially when blood and cheese show up

This is the first thing shot on Warner Brothers' new virtual set stages at Leavesden so most of them are state of the art live digital projections which adapt to camera movement.
Yes, season 8 was rushed but I give House of the dragon the benefit of the doubt simply because Game of Thrones was part of my life for almost 10 years. Every episode was a happening, I read hundreds of theories, watched just as many reactions(we all watched the Burlington bar reaction, haven't we?), gushed over scenes like Hardhome, Blackwater, the battle of the bastards and many more, been to the live concert. This experience was something special and season 8 won't take that away from me.
@yuitr loing The fact that the same musical composer, Ramin Djawadi, is back again to do the score for House of the Dragon says a lot about how exciting and amazing this new series will be.

The Dance of Dragons is such an epic story and I'm damn confident HBO is not gonna let us down.
Read Fire and Blood people, it's really accessible and more than entertaining with all the unreliable narrators and conflicting testimonies games GRRM pulls during the book.
I'm planning on listening to the audio book before the show starts. I'm soooo excited its finally coming out.
I am really conflicted on reading it, since it's in a summary like format which makes me wonder whether I would enjoy an actual storytelling experience more like the TV Show.

I think as well the fact that Ramin Djawadi is back is giving people the strength to tune into this. He was undeniably one of the absolute best elements of GOT from beginning to end and remained consistently brilliant the entire way through. Even when the show quality itself was absolutely ruthlessly kamikazed by D&D, Ramin held up his end of the deal. It's so good he's back.

Which is said because Dan and David had assumed grrm would have written the last book before the show was overnight, but instead he did other projects and wrote other books. The six book was being written before got even started production. I do blame grrm for how the show turned out.

They wanted to go work on Star Wars following season 6 and they could've hired another showrunner/extra writers to help bring the series to a more proper conclusion, but they refused the blank checks from HBO because their egos wanted GOT to be their show, and not just hand it off to someone else that would inevitably finish it. So while GRRM has become a notorious procrastinator with the books, D&D should've had the decency to leave a show that they clearly lost passion for and wanted to end as soon as possible.
@@josephwantock1993 whose to say grrm would want anybody else to do it. In order to even get the show in the first place they had to answer the question of who Jon's mother was. Honestly wanting to know why everybody is upset at the ending. Grrm said it would be bitter sweet, plus it's based off of the war of the roses. Which is interesting cause the ending of that is more like the end of house of dragons then GOT.

I remember watching the red wedding for the very first time... It literally felt as if I was witnessing friends and family getting killed... I stood up from my seat and got my hands up to my head... I was so in disbelief on what was just happening.... No other show has made me feel that way again
I agree @Oscar. When Ned lost his head, I was like "well damn, anyone can go". But the red wedding transformed what a show can do to you. It really proved anyone was fair game in GoT. But also it promised to tell a story from everyone's view... Not just a main character. I haven't had another show do it so naturally. Other shows that do it seem like they are doing it for effect.. Not because it's a part of the storyline.

Looks good to me. Hopefully slow moving like the early seasons of GOT. Not sure it will be totally possible without a ton of creative license as there are not as many locations to work with. They do have the benefit of bouncing back and forth to many periods in time though to make up for some locations.

The Targaryen are without a slightest doubt, the most complex and interesting house of the entire Game of Thrones Universe. One could say: "Meh, is only because of dragons". Not, it's not. Dragons and the fire of course amazing to see, and a delight. But it's far more, they are brave, powerful, extremely loyal, but also, complex rulers with lots of good and bad, and we can never know their next step, which makes things entertaining in all levels. I was already very excited after the first images, and now after this trailer, I'm beyond that. Bring it on HBO!!! Season 8 can't not be redeemed, but this show has potential to at least makes us forget that bad taste in the mouth and make justice to the Targaryen legacy! Bring the fire!🔥

Have I got exciting news for you my friend…the music sounds familiar because, Ramin Djawadi, who is the composer for Game of Thrones is also composing for House of the Dragon. The fact that I know we’re going to have excellent score/soundtracks and D&D haven’t touched this show brings me so much joy and I’m looking forward to this show.
it uses the same themes of game of thrones, I could recognize the Targaryen theme clearly and of course the Game of thrones theme, since they mentioned the Game. The same composer is on this so expect to hear many familiar themes but in new tracks!
Since many houses have their own motifs, and also ideas, this new soundtrack is gonna maintain the little references, and that's so cool. For example I'm sure we'll get a rendition of the stark theme when sharks show up, and so on. But all while being new, just so cool

I’m so excited everything seems to be along the right trajectory for this to succeed. No flashy, over the top dramatic movie scenes that bloated GOT last season but a slow build up of its story through suspenseful thrilling content that’ll set the stage for a long epic story that earns its climatic ending. That’s how GOT become big at the start and how forgetting it made it flop at the end. So glad to be hyped for this franchise again

Dude, GOT was a 70 hour-long movie. By the end you have what is called the climax of the story. By that point a slow build-up is no longer even necessary because all the elements are in place and it's not the show's problem y'all couldn't remember half of the important scenes for the characters, leading to you misreading them and misunderstanding the themes of the show.
I can't wait for this, it'll be so tragic, 20+ dragons will die.

I am not gonna lie, Matt Smith really impressed me, I thought he wouldn't look much like Daemon, but he really exceeded expectations. I want to see him in terms of acting though, not just the looks. Daemon Targaryen was a badass.
