Growing up in Detroit as a child my sister and I were friends with his daughter Sandra. We hung out at his home and called his wife Frida ‘Frito.’ I remember one day Frida was missing a ring and Sandra had us remove our clothes to see if we stole it, we didn’t. He mentions having watched Wilson four nights straight in Las Vegas in the 1956 "Million Dollar Sessions." Elvis sings a version of "Don't Be Cruel" in those sessions that attempts to replicate how Wilson sang it in Vegas when Wilson tried to replicate Elvis. Elvis said Wilson sang "the hell out of that song." Elvis said had wished he recorded his version of "Don't Be Cruel" the way Jackie Wilson sang it in Vegas. Elvis also helped pay the hospital bill for Wilson when Wilson had the heart attack that rendered him profoundly disabled.
