    Criminally underrated. Bad luck he played in the era of the Showtime Lakers, Bird's Celtics, and Jordan's Bulls. He'd be a perennial league MVP candidate in today's NBA.

    I had forgotten about Nique being left out of the top 50. I had the honor of watching the Hawks play a brand new Orlando Magic team in an exhibition match. Looking back it was awesome to see D, Kevin Willis, Spud Webb & Doc Rivers easily take out the Magic. This was fall of 89. I even remember an alley-oop that Doc gave to D where it seemed like he was in the air for longer than a human could defy gravity. One of the greatest that used his gifts to the absolute best of his abilties!

      He was my favorite player I ever got to watch in person. I saw a few good ones at the Pontiac Silverdome as a kid, but he was special. Manning was messed up by injuries. When I lived in Lawrence KS, years later, I saw Manning at a music store. I think he was helping coach KU at the time. Wilkins had no Scottie Pippen and yet they blamed him for not getting a ring! Put him in NY, Houston, etc in those days and then let's see. If not that, then at least allow him to play in a Paul Westhead type offense where they have a Wilkins as the leader of it. But, it's the Hawks' fault that they did surround him with enough talent to win a ring or trade him to NY, Houston, or somebody like that.

    • @rrpostalagain
      @rrpostalagain 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kevin Willis and Mookie Blaylock were pretty good. Seemed like Willis was that second guy when I watched as a kid. I may have thought Willis was better than he was because I’m a Michigan State guy even as a kid.

    • @dustinfonnesbeck9667
      @dustinfonnesbeck9667 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mookie and Kevin were good. Craig Ehlo was a good 3 point shooter off the bench. I blame Lenny Wilkins for wanting Danny Manning. That team in the 1993-94 season would have gotten a ring if they didn't trade Dominique Wilkins.

    • @JK-br1mu

    • @pattrell5257
      @pattrell5257 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JK-br1mu You don't know Wilkins then; he's the same kind of player that could duel with Bird or Jordan no matter how hot they were. Maybe he had his mind on dunking a good bit, but he could certainly play. I'd put him on my team before Dr. J and I know that kind of goes against conventional wisdom/perception, but I never saw as much from Julius--that would translate to any era--as from Dominique...

    • @JK-br1mu
      @JK-br1mu ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pattrell5257 Well as far as playing defense and passing to teammates who had a better look, Mike averaged 2.3 steals, 0.8 blocks and 5.3 assists per game for his career. Nique's numbers were 1.3 steals, 0.6 blocks and only 2.5 assists.........I guess that sums it all up right there. Yah you're right, Nique was always up for a fight......on offense, with himself in the starring role every time. Of course, Mike beat him there too, but it was the other stuff that made MJ a champ and Nique a second-round playoff kinda guy.

  • @ktbeatty
    @ktbeatty ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Is there even a serious contender to ‘Nique for most underrated in NBA history? Right smack in the middle of Magic, Bird, Jordan, and the Bad Boys, the dude managed to make himself must see TV. The “Human Highlight Film” is, next to Gretzky’s “The Great One,” perhaps the best nickname ever. He was literally that.
    He might have been the most consistently entertaining offensive player ever. I can’t begin to count the number of times, after a missed shot by himself or a teammate, he would come flying in from outside the broadcast frame, going over three or four defenders and teammates with perfect rebound position, to slam the ball in off the rebound with ferocity.
    Oh, as it is overlooked constantly, I’ll add he was, beyond any debate, one of the best to ever play the game.

    Nique had enough talent to earn millions of dollars playing basketball and that's good in and of itself. He was not the type of player who wins championships because he didn't take defense seriously enough.........Mike had 2,514 career steals while Nique had 1,378. Mike had 893 career blocks to Nique's 642. Nique cared about scoring, but didn't do enough else to win.

    I swear, the NBA doesn't care or really doesn't want Atlanta winning championships. Bird had a squad
    Magic had a squad Detroit had a squad
    Mj had a squad.
    Now before I go any further Yes Rollins was all nba defense and yes Willis was an multi allstar, but they couldn't takeover a game like Wilkins.
    If Wilkins had Pistol Pete and Trae Young in the 80s and early 90s they are atleast winning one title 1981 to 1994 atleast 1, with Rivers Rollins, Spud, and Willis on the team. Yeah nuff said

      Bro honestly I think the mom had ALOT to do with that. You can tell she always wanted to be the number 1 woman in his life and he owed his riches to her and his siblings. I see it all the time and hopefully he drew the line somewhere.

    That's funny about Dominique getting mocked for his name, because that name wasn't uncommon in the black community just a few years later.......I wonder how many African-American boys born 1982-1989 were named after him, cuz he was dunking like crazy on TV.

    He did almost everything right but he fell into some very unlucky instances and into some truly idiots. Even when he finally won a trophy (European championship) with us in Panathinaikos he had the missfortune to be coached by a complete idiot like Malcovits who behave very badly to him.
