I saw this show in February 2023 and it was fantastic. I rode the free shuttle from the Grand Palace on a hot day and it was so great to go into the cool theater and watch a top notch show. Don’t miss it!

Great video! I was there just a few weeks ago. Watched the Khon as part of the Royal Palace ticket, like you mentioned. Loved it! So colourful, and with such expressive movements. Might try to watch another Khon show if I get a chance before I leave Thailand.
Thank you, it really is a great show! I am in love with everything about the Khon. When you were at the Grand Palace did you see the mural of depicting the story of the Ramkien? it is along one of the walls, it depicts many of the stories. It's beautifully preserved.
@@IdeaStudioBKK It was the first thing I headed toward, actually. I spent an hour checking out that mural. It's amazing! I know only a little of the Ramakien story. Been meaning to learn more.
@@blenderconch Everytime i visit the palace I spend most of the time going through that and always pick up a few new details. The Ramakien story is amazing. The Wikipedia page on the subject gives you a fair overview of the story and the characters, it's a good starting point. Then to go deeper there are a few good english versions of the stories that you can find. I saw a graphic novel version a few years ago that was in Thai, I regret not getting it when I saw as I am now learning to read and write Thai. I hope to come by it again.

No luck so far, but I've got a few more weeks. Like you, I'm also trying to learn to read and write. My girlfriend is Thai and I'm hoping to move here in perhaps two years - not sure how or what I'll do when I get here. Also an engineer like you, but a software engineer. The company I work for has an office in Bangkok, but no engineering. Best case scenario, they expand into engineering here and I transfer over. Won't hold my breath on that option, though :) Have you been to the amulet market at one of the piers near the palace, btw? Sorry, I forget which pier. Worth a visit. Surprisingly large, and full of really cool narrow dark passage ways lined with stalls. Quite an interesting atmosphere.

I think you won't have any issues finding a job in Bangkok as a software engineer, or a remote job with a western company. Software engineers seem to always be in high demand. If you want to continue working in that field i think you won't have any issues.

This is a great short version, but if you have a chance since you live here def try to catch the national theater show they do yearly, it's breathtaking.
