Ooh this is a fantastic video, Gary. Love the ‘coffee test’ idea. I always hit the mic when I start acting with my hands, I’m a bit too animated 😂

I don’t think you can ever be too animated Becky 🎭

Thanks for sharing these tips! Voicing characters is, by far and away, my biggest VO challenge - even bigger than any challenges on either the business side or the production side of VO. In particular, I struggle with vocal nuances that help distinguish between human characters in adult novels, and then being able to sustain those distinct voices throughout a 10+ hour audiobook. I appreciate your discussion of using vocal textures, and I think that is something that I can definitely run with as I practice character voices. Interestingly, I have very strong reactions to the texture of various foods. I've never thought of a voice as food, but I just might give some thought as to what a given character's voice would taste and feel like in my mouth, and then use that image/sensation to help me create a distinct (and yet realistic) voice. I do believe that I am going to have some fun with this! Thank you so much, Gary!!! 😀

I love the metaphor - voice over as food... very descriptive!

Very good tips and advice! Thank you! I really need to get the ball rolling with my voiceovers. If you have the time I have a few voiceover samples on my TH-cam page. Your input and feedback would be greatly appreciated. If you're unable I totally understand. And I will keep listening to your advice!
