Had a beautiful 23 ft Airstream that I towed with an F250. After my partner died it got to be too much to tow solo, although I did it for a couple of years. With great sadness I sold my Airstream and bought a 26 ft class C. I absolutely love it. Everything is so much easier. It's not more difficult to drive than my F250...without the trailer. While you were talking about expenses for a motorhome being more than a trailer, don't forget you also have expenses, maintenance etc. on the tow vehicle. So, it's pretty much a wash.

We went from Ground Tent camping to a Tent Trailer when our son was young and we were taking weekend trips once or twice a month. Then after a long hiatus we purchased my dream coach after years of searching and researching, a Newmar Dutch Star 3865 Diesel Pusher. It’s definitely a big boy but its perfect for us. We’re retired even though we still have our Sticks and Bricks home we are here less and less each month. 😁
I am all motorhome!!! Love sending my husband back to get a snack or beverage! bathroom is useable while we move and the comfort of arriving at a campground with the A/C already keeping us comfortably cool. We are on our third MH; class B first, Class C second and not a Class A!!! So much comfort.

However, when the wind starts blowing like it does here in Northeast Texas, I get shaken a lot. I really think I would like a motorhome because traveling would be easier when going to see my children and grandson. It's also lower to the ground and heavier which will make it more stable when the wind starts blowing. Overall, I love motorhomes for the extra quality in build, appliances, and cabinetry, just like you were talking about. I think you summed up the high level pros and cons nicely. I have an older Class B that's perfect for what we use it for now. Weekend road trips with seats, bunks, bath and galley all SQUEEZED into a small footprint. I can take a half dozen runners in front facing seatbelts for a team relay race adventure, take the kids along for a week's getaway to both national parks or exciting new cities, or Friday after work toss in a duffle bag and the dogs and head for a weekend at the beach. So the rig scales really well for the adventures that are available to me now. If I were doing trips with longer stays in one location then I "might" look into towables, but it'd be hard to beat the versatility of the small MH setup. Thanks for the fun and informative vids!
Diesel isn't that much more if you have a TSD card. Generally a Diesel will get better millage and with the TSD card we can save 40-60 cents a gallon so often it's a wash. I love to compare "cost-per-mile" but include sight-seeing miles as well. (have a towed)
Never had a trailer . Wanted one as our first RV but my wife wanted kids to be more comfortable while driving long distance . Definitely don’t regret our class C . Love it and happy we didn’t get a trailer .
DP for me, reason is wife and I enjoy our comfort and plan on seeing many different places, no need to do the white knuckle driving pulling a trailer. Great topic, love your videos.
I say travel trailer is better because at the end of the day if u have engine or trans problems its in w.e vehicle u are useing to tow it with and if its not fixable or just costs too much u still have the trailer anddd another thing u can detach for a quick trip to a store or down a road thats too narrow for a rv or trailer
We went from tent Camping to a Leisure Travel Van Unity FX. This motorhome has been perfect for us. We are currently looking to move up to a Newmar New Aire at some time in the future. The driving of the motorhome is excellent. We currently get about 17 MPG. Friend of ours purchased an Alliance 5th Wheel. Trying to back that into a spot and the level of effort is much more than we want to deal with. However, the 5th Wheel's you typically get more space and storage than a motorhome, it just depends on what you want to do.
Well,you probably already know my answer, I have had 3 Motorhomes. I think they are the only way to go and my Super C is the best one yet. I had a 25 foot class c Mercedes that got 13mpg. My Super C gets 10 mpg,but the size and comfort is great. Get a diesel and sign up for a TSD Logistic fuel card and save as much as 60 cents a gallon !! Just my thoughts.
Motor home all the way. My Dad had 3 motor homes when I was a kid, we love the room. There was 8 of us. We had 36' 38' and a 40' the 38' home was the best.

I have watched a few of these VS. videos. You all talk about the towable being less expensive than a drivable but no one takes into account the cost of a proper tow vehicle. I pull a 38 foot 5ver that cost around 75k with a 2017 F450 that cost around 80k, So my rig is about 150K. SO if you are buying a gasser or a used diesel drivable is not less expensive.
When we first considered an RV, the wife wanted a TT and I was leaning towards a motorhome. I wasn't comfortable with the idea of towing a trailer, and we didn't have anything we could tow one with, so we'd have to buy a truck and a trailer. Plus, I'd be doing most, if not all, of the driving! In the end, I won out and we got a smaller Class C which we have since upgraded to a small Class A. No regrets.
I have had a class B and later a class C motorhome. The B was low trouble and low maintenance. The C was blowing tires plus I spent every weekend repairing something on it. High maintenance on the C. Got rid of the C and bought a TT then years later, another TT. TT is super low maintenance and my preference due to that plus lower costs. My F250 6.7L pulls the TT with ease, 9 hours per day.
I was wondering about the interior quality differences between a TT and MH. Comparing mid line to mid line of each, you indicated that cabinetry, countertops, etc would generally be superior in a MH. After viewing several new TTs today, I would agree.

I personally think the mentality of getting an motorized RV to retire might not be the best. A lot of maintenance and they sit for long periods of time. Maybe get a nice fifth wheel and you can leave it for months on end with not having to worry about tires and engines not running etc. They say RVs need to be driven and the reality is they really don't get driven all that much. Just look at most of the them for sale all under 100k easy. I personally like class As but I think it really depends on your situation and what you want to do with it. Good video.
Great information. We did look at 5th wheels but what we saw was by the time we got the rig and then had to buy the big truck which is crazy expensive. I do all the driving but limit myself to 5 hour trips. For me I find that is the max I want to drive. Plus in that I still take breaks. I am lazy. lol I think in the end we will always be in a motorhome or maybe a nice big super c. lol. Great share and information.

The motorhome may get lousy miles per gallon, but the gas mileage you can get from your towed car can be fantastic, especially if it is a high mpg car. A big engine truck or van will get worse miles per gallon, especially if you do a lot of local driving.
Motorhome for me. I like the idea of a self contained unit. I'm fidgeting right now with the thought of should I do a 37' Realm FS450 or go with a 45' Realm or Used Prevost conversion. I'm glad I didn't rush my decision because if I did, I'd already have the 45 footer that can pull 20,000 lbs. 2nd thoughts have me realizing, 10K will likely be enough to bring along "one" of my automobiles inside a trailer. None the less, I have some time and will Figure this out over the next 12 to 26 months.... I love you guys channel....
Good choices you have David. Just remember if you can go with more towing capacity your will be better off. It's always better to tow under your capacity vs close to or at max of your capacity. Thanks for watching. Izzy
@@EndlessRVing My heaviest vehicle weighs 5247. The Trailer I'm looking at weighs 2620. Combined that's 7867 or 2,123 additional pounds I could put into the Trailer without Over Loading it. Figure I'll carry a spare tire for the vehicle (100) lbs, some of my toys (yes toys) drones etc, say another 400 lbs, some extra fuel 40 gallons @ 7 lbs per gallon plus 40 pounds for the storage unit 320lbs and lastly 180 lbs of miscellaneous. That's an even thousand lbs leaving a whole 1,123 pulling capacity. I can definitely make it with the 10k towing capacity. Oh, and if I really wanted to go big, I have some speakers and music gear that weigh another 700 lbs. I'd still be under the FS450's towing capacity. I don't have the capacity of how many lbs can be stored in the coach but I'll have the salesman give me that number.

We get 16 mpg in our sprinter chassis motor home, or 10 mpg towing a trailer with our Toyota Sequoia. But I guess you could also have an efficient tow rig too, like a diesel half ton.
Tough choices all. We just sold our 35' fifth wheel and bought a 2427 voyage Winnebago trailer. Considered a class b van but small size and high cost nixed it. The trailer is one level and fifth wheel's bed room step up gets old after knee and back surgeries. The trailer can be left and the truck driven about. I don't have too bad a time driving up to 8 hrs. a day depending on conditions. I tow with a Chevy Duramax dually , which is pretty much up to the task of towing the 8 to 9000 lbs. Maybe a class c or super c could be in our future but I fear for availability of the larger towing engines ( both diesel and gas) in the near future.
I am curious why you insisted on a gas "pusher" rather than diesel power. We are recently retired and considering buying a RV. I really enjoy your content. Keep up the good work.
Hi Sid we bought a gas coach for 3 reasons. Initial cost, maintenance cost, as well as the amount of use. With that said our next coach will diesel. Izzy
A motor home, we think. Not RVers yet, and never have, but planning on going full time the end of next year (we are serious - we already bought an RV lot). But the 5th wheels really do offer a lot. Some are nicer than many small apartments. Have sights on the Newmar Dutch Star. Greatly enjoy your educational videos.
Thanks for the insightful video. One thing you did not mention is the benefit with an RV is being able to hsve a bed and bathroom right behind you. Long trips mean you don't have to stop to find a bathroom or if you want someone else to drive as your getting tired, you can take a nap in the back.

Currently we have a StarCraft GPS23 MLD with a patio deck and it is perfect for us and our dog, but we are getting older and hooking up the trailer or backing into a tight spot is sometime challenging I have noticed that some of the smaller motorhomes between 27-35 are not as spacious even at fully extended, our is at 11 feet and we hate to lose that wide space. I'm still in the looking stage I prefer a motorhome. I just want to be able to get in it and go. Not worrying about hooking up or breaking down a travel trailer which I would still have to buy a truck for.
What about the pickup truck you use to pull the trailer? Is there no maintenance expense for it or cost to purchase it? If I got a trailer I would have to get a truck as well to tow it and I wouldn't use it for anything but to tow the trailer. I also want to have a Jeep Wrangler so I can go exploring once I get to where I am going. A truck wouldn't work for that. So at least for me a motorhome is the only option. I also like the idea of always being in the RV all the time and passengers being able to do more than sit in a seat in a truck.

But I guess I would also need a tow vehicle to venture out in when parked somewhere. Prefer Motorhome vs Travel Trailer. For me it’s Motorhome, hands down! Set up and break down is much quicker and easier in our Motorhome. Especially when it’s raining. I hated the Trailer when I’d get soaked trying to break down and prepare for travel in the rain. Also driving in windy conditions is much easier in our Class A Diesel vs our trailer that would get blown all over.
I am a single retired women with two dogs. My fears are hooking up and set up. Can I physically do it? Would a motorhome be easier than a travel travel for set up? thanks
If I were a single retired woman with two dogs, I would most definitely get a motorhome over a trailer. I think it's way easier but that's just me. Everyone is different but that's my two cents. Good luck! - MJ
When comparing tt to motorhome I feel you need to also consider the tow vehicle for the tt when talking costs of maintenance and insurance. Otherwise you are talking apples and oranges.
Even with the tow vehicle you will likely be spending less on the trailer setup in initial cost as well as maintenance. Thanks for watching and the comment Izzy
Thank you for the information! We are new to Rving but not to camping. We are planning a year off to travel the US and home school our daughter for 7th grade). We are a small family of 3 with a dog. We'd like to keep cost down and don't plan to spend every night in the trailer so I think we're leaning towards the trailer. How much do you think we should budget for monthly expenses for a travel trailer that say sleeps 4-6 -- we'd like to have some room for gear too! Thanks again!
Class B!! It's my 2nd vehicle for around home & easy to drive, easy to park, better on gas than a Class A & C & towing a TT (I've had 'em all), no hassle parking on the streets overnight, easier & cheaper to maintain than class A & C, easier to drive in city traffic.
Very interesting. We’re still on the fence about this. We are a couple just starting out with our travel trailer. Our kids are college age and aren’t interested in travelling with us all the time, we have a tent for when they join us. We have had it since June and camped a total of 34 nights. Towing a tt is exhausting. Typically we drive 3-4 hours max. Also, we find hooking up and un-hooking hard. I fear the day that I will have to do this alone. For this reason I am interested in a smaller class or large class B. I don’t really want to tow a car. I’ve seen people in class Bs drive away for day trips, seems weird to me. But I think as we get older a tt will be too difficult to handle. I think we will definitely rent one before buying. Looking forward to part 2.
This is a real struggle for us. We love the basement storage and room in the Class A, but we also love the safety and drivability of the Super C. We now have to test out the Prevost / Newell coaches because maybe they have the best of both worlds. Thanks for watching and the comment. Izzy
Currently desiring a motorhome over travel trailer. With trailers you need to make sure the towing vehicle is rated strong enough to take the trailer without breaking under the load. With a motorhome it can move itself and you can choose to have any small fuel-efficient support vehicle on a trailer or with a tow-kit as your daily runabout.
Beautiful park. Good info as usual. We've looked at lots of options but we're leaning toward a fifth wheel. Mainly because we already have a Ford F350, 6.7L deisle, with duel rear wheels and a full sized bed. We have looked at some Class As but price and maintenance are a real concern. But to just get in and go after you have checked everything sounds good. Are you guys done traveling for the season?

I like reminiscing, I owned a bumper pull, 5th wheel and small class A. Lost money in the devaluation. RV parks would be very picky and some with attitude.
Got be completely honest with you guys, I think your intro is gonna need changing. “We’re the channel that brings you the best in r.v. D.I.Y.” is fast becoming outdated. In my humble opinion, a slight tweak should improve it no end. Try moving the word “best” before the word “channel”. There I’ve said it, I’ve scratched that annoying itch and got my basement blast off my chest! 🤣🙂 Keep believing in yourselves and trust me a 100K plaque is just a case of when, not if! The motorhome may get lousy miles per gallon, but the gas mileage you can get from your towed car can be fantastic, especially if it is a high mpg car. A big engine truck or van will get worse miles per gallon, especially if you do a lot of local driving.

Motorhome for me. I like the idea of a self contained unit. I'm fidgeting right now with the thought of should I do a 37' Realm FS450 or go with a 45' Realm or Used Prevost conversion. I'm glad I didn't rush my decision because if I did, I'd already have the 45 footer that can pull 20,000 lbs. 2nd thoughts have me realizing, 10K will likely be enough to bring along "one" of my automobiles inside a trailer. None the less, I have some time and will Figure this out over the next 12 to 26 months.... I love you guys channel....
Good choices you have David. Just remember if you can go with more towing capacity your will be better off. It's always better to tow under your capacity vs close to or at max of your capacity. Thanks for watching.

@@EndlessRVing My heaviest vehicle weighs 5247. The Trailer I'm looking at weighs 2620. Combined that's 7867 or 2,123 additional pounds I could put into the Trailer without Over Loading it. Figure I'll carry a spare tire for the vehicle (100) lbs, some of my toys (yes toys) drones etc, say another 400 lbs, some extra fuel 40 gallons @ 7 lbs per gallon plus 40 pounds for the storage unit 320lbs and lastly 180 lbs of miscellaneous. That's an even thousand lbs leaving a whole 1,123 pulling capacity. I can definitely make it with the 10k towing capacity. Oh, and if I really wanted to go big, I have some speakers and music gear that weigh another 700 lbs. I'd still be under the FS450's towing capacity. I don't have the capacity of how many lbs can be stored in the coach but I'll have the salesman give me that number.

We get 16 mpg in our sprinter chassis motor home, or 10 mpg towing a trailer with our Toyota Sequoia. But I guess you could also have an efficient tow rig too, like a diesel half ton.

I like motorhome for better amenities, but I think travel trailers are less complicated
Tough choices all. We just sold our 35' fifth wheel and bought a 2427 voyage Winnebago trailer. Considered a class b van but small size and high cost nixed it. The trailer is one level and fifth wheel's bed room step up gets old after knee and back surgeries. The trailer can be left and the truck driven about. I don't have too bad a time driving up to 8 hrs. a day depending on conditions. I tow with a Chevy Duramax dually , which is pretty much up to the task of towing the 8 to 9000 lbs. Maybe a class c or super c could be in our future but I fear for availability of the larger towing engines ( both diesel and gas) in the near future.
I am curious why you insisted on a gas "pusher" rather than diesel power. We are recently retired and considering buying a RV. I really enjoy your content. Keep up the good work.
Hi Sid we bought a gas coach for 3 reasons. Initial cost, maintenance cost, as well as the amount of use.
With that said our next coach will diesel.

A motor home, we think. Not RVers yet, and never have, but planning on going full time the end of next year (we are serious - we already bought an RV lot). But the 5th wheels really do offer a lot. Some are nicer than many small apartments. Have sights on the Newmar Dutch Star. Greatly enjoy your educational videos.

Thanks for the insightful video. One thing you did not mention is the benefit with an RV is being able to hsve a bed and bathroom right behind you. Long trips mean you don't have to stop to find a bathroom or if you want someone else to drive as your getting tired, you can take a nap in the back.
Thank you for this. We are getting ready to sell our house and buy an RV. We are leaning toward a MH Class C. We want it to be our home on land we will own, but will also travel with it. Our focus is to live more in nature. To live in a C class on your own land, is that expensive? Thank you.
Currently we have a StarCraft GPS23 MLD with a patio deck and it is perfect for us and our dog, but we are getting older and hooking up the trailer or backing into a tight spot is sometime challenging I have noticed that some of the smaller motorhomes between 27-35 are not as spacious even at fully extended, our is at 11 feet and we hate to lose that wide space. What about the pickup truck you use to pull the trailer? Is there no maintenance expense for it or cost to purchase it? If I got a trailer I would have to get a truck as well to tow it and I wouldn't use it for anything but to tow the trailer. I also want to have a Jeep Wrangler so I can go exploring once I get to where I am going. A truck wouldn't work for that. So at least for me a motorhome is the only option. I also like the idea of always being in the RV all the time and passengers being able to do more than sit in a seat in a truck.

Thanks for the info MJ and Izzy. If I could afford it I think that I would prefer a motor home for passenger comfort. But I guess I would also need a tow vehicle to venture out in when parked somewhere.
There are so many places in the United States that I want to visit or revisit and I feel like a diesel motor home is the way to go.

Prefer Motorhome vs Travel Trailer. For me it’s Motorhome, hands down! Set up and break down is much quicker and easier in our Motorhome. Especially when it’s raining. I hated the Trailer when I’d get soaked trying to break down and prepare for travel in the rain. Also driving in windy conditions is much easier in our Class A Diesel vs our trailer that would get blown all over.

If I were a single retired woman with two dogs, I would most definitely get a motorhome over a trailer. I think it's way easier but that's just me. Everyone is different but that's my two cents. Good luck! - MJ
When comparing tt to motorhome I feel you need to also consider the tow vehicle for the tt when talking costs of maintenance and insurance. Otherwise you are talking apples and oranges.
Even with the tow vehicle you will likely be spending less on the trailer setup in initial cost as well as maintenance. Thanks for watching and the comment

Thank you for the information! We are new to Rving but not to camping. We are planning a year off to travel the US and home school our daughter for 7th grade). We are a small family of 3 with a dog. We'd like to keep cost down and don't plan to spend every night in the trailer so I think we're leaning towards the trailer. How much do you think we should budget for monthly expenses for a travel trailer that say sleeps 4-6 -- we'd like to have some room for gear too! Thanks again!

Class B!! It's my 2nd vehicle for around home & easy to drive, easy to park, better on gas than a Class A & C & towing a TT (I've had 'em all), no hassle parking on the streets overnight, easier & cheaper to maintain than class A & C, easier to drive in city traffic.

Very interesting. We’re still on the fence about this. We are a couple just starting out with our travel trailer. Our kids are college age and aren’t interested in travelling with us all the time, we have a tent for when they join us.
We have had it since June and camped a total of 34 nights. Towing a tt is exhausting. Typically we drive 3-4 hours max. Also, we find hooking up and un-hooking hard. I fear the day that I will have to do this alone.
For this reason I am interested in a smaller class or large class B. I don’t really want to tow a car. I’ve seen people in class Bs drive away for day trips, seems weird to me. But I think as we get older a tt will be too difficult to handle.
I think we will definitely rent one before buying. Looking forward to part 2.

That’s what we did. Rented through outdoorsy. We found the exact unit we think we want to buy.

This is a real struggle for us. We love the basement storage and room in the Class A, but we also love the safety and drivability of the Super C. We now have to test out the Prevost / Newell coaches because maybe they have the best of both worlds. Thanks for watching and the comment.

Your comparisons for maintenance and insurance SHOULD include the TOW vehicle. They did not.
Currently desiring a motorhome over travel trailer. With trailers you need to make sure the towing vehicle is rated strong enough to take the trailer without breaking under the load. With a motorhome it can move itself and you can choose to have any small fuel-efficient support vehicle on a trailer or with a tow-kit as your daily runabout.

Beautiful park. Good info as usual. We've looked at lots of options but we're leaning toward a fifth wheel. Mainly because we already have a Ford F350, 6.7L deisle, with duel rear wheels and a full sized bed. We have looked at some Class As but price and maintenance are a real concern. But to just get in and go after you have checked everything sounds good. Are you guys done traveling for the season?

We did not. There is also expense with Toad vehicle and toad setup for motorhome. We wanted just to focus on the actual RV in the video.

I like reminiscing, I owned a bumper pull, 5th wheel and small class A. Lost money in the devaluation. RV parks would be very picky and some with attitude.
Got be completely honest with you guys, I think your intro is gonna need changing. “We’re the channel that brings you the best in r.v. D.I.Y.” is fast becoming outdated. In my humble opinion, a slight tweak should improve it no end. Try moving the word “best” before the word “channel”. There I’ve said it, I’ve scratched that annoying itch and got my basement blast off my chest! 🤣🙂
Keep believing in yourselves and trust me a 100K plaque is just a case of when, not if!
Now I just have to find something to buy with a basement, from this side of the pond here in 🏴 Brexitland (England).
