What a class act. John Cleese is one sophisticated, well spoken and well thought out person.

He's not a class act.. He's a very naughty Buddhist who's not in Kansas anymore.. No he's a rational, critical human being who is unlucky enough to remember slightly saner days.. What a world we live in when the comedy and laughter has been kicked out of the comedian. Strange days indeed.. Most peculiar Mama.. Such a shame the likes of George Carlin isn't still alive to cheer us all up as we go to hell in a basket.. Life don't seem fair.. He would of loved to have narrated the spectacular fall of the human species.. Enjoy it. Atv least for those who couldn't be here. No point being angry. We got front row tickets. You have got to laugh or else you would be doing life for next door but 1 and the neighbours dog..

"I think if people just sat and meditated for 10 minutes a day the country would become much happier in about four days."
Can't believe I just heard John Cleese say that. It's absolutely true. My four years of depression lifted in about two weeks using mindfulness meditation. Really using it. Looking within. Watching my thoughts. Facing my fears. Self compassion, self forgiveness, self love.
This is not woo and it's not empty talk. We lost the fantasy stories of our infantile religions but we lost genuine spirituality along with it too.
Almost didn't want to watch this because I thought it was going to be some angry political rant. How glad I am that I was wrong. I'm having more and more hope that our society is moving in the right direction, slowly but surely toward a reasonable and rational spirituality based on all the amazing teachings taught by true spiritual masters down through the centuries, but without the theatre and images and that have been placed in front of it over the millennia to dumb it down for the masses, and have allowed massive abuses to go on unchallenged for so many centuries. True enlightenment seems to becoming to more and more people in the West. It's exciting.

Great video. One nitpick though, the existentialists were actually trying to solve the problem of the lack of evidence for objective meaning and the inner drive that there must be one. They definitely did not want to resign to a do-whatever kind of answer, as evidenced by Satre's remark that when you act after realizing meaning is up to you, you immediately bear the responsibility of all of humanity on your shoulder and to choose wisely.

Religious unity requires organization. In order to be unified you must have a Creed that all can agree upon. The United States has the Constitution. We are a creedal Nation. We are not bound by nationality but by principles and values. When we no longer have those in common, the nation falls apart.

Brilliant Comedian, but even more impressive when explains his views.
Binary is a concise effective explanation of our PC logical fallacy.
Yes England does have some serious sins.
But England gave us the Magna Carta, The Declaration of Rights and Common Law.
Yes she derived much of her Greatness as a Colonial power but also spread a powerful philosophy and effective foundation for government.
I am infuriated by the multiculuralists that insist everything is equal.
And that Western Civilization is responsible for all the ills of the world and must be torn down.
    Well Done!
    Cheers

As a Vancouverite from Canada, I know exactly what Cleese is talking about when he mentions foreigners jacking up prices in the real estate markets and making it impossible for families, even ones with professionals, to afford a home. Money laundering is also rife within the market and this includes the luxury car market.

Just going on the title I'd say that the meaning crisis at least partly revolves around the impression of a lot of people that our lives have one subjective meaning, while it's actually only the moment to moment from which meaning can be extracted. The average of that is what we then say what we 'find meaningfull doing'. Meaning is plural phenomenon.

I think in the next 2-6 yrs you’re going to see a big change in Christianity and the Catholic religion. The Buddhist religion will stay on course, with some possible growth. You will see more home growth religion, people meeting at homes and the big business churches with multimillionaire pastors as a thing of the past. How many jets does one pastor need? When you have one pastor worth over $500 million and doesn’t use that wealth for the good of those in need but hoards it for themselves will no longer be seen starting in the somewhat near future. The dam will burst. I always enjoyed John intellectual look at things and only too sorry not to have met him when he lived in the same city that I do in CA. All the best to John!

@Lloyd Braun I think there is a common human culture, a common set of values that ALL races agree with. We call them human rights. It's not RACE rights.
Basic human functions; nobody wants to be hit in the face. Nobody wants to be yelled at. Everyone needs to use the bathroom, everyone wants to have sex. Aren't those some examples of human universals, despite of race or anything? (Sure the the skeptic post-modernists say that there is some one in a billion person)

He is the funny that America is missing , a lot of us seem to be to worried about things the press have conjured up to keep our attention focused on the negative. We’re forgetting our search for the truth through spiritual in lightening, faith , a hirer purpose, answers to why we are and how we got here and true happiness have been replaced with power and monetary gain and access. We all need to breath and feel , with out our senses being engaged , what are we to become? John , never loose that great laugh of yours...

In a time of zeal focussed on complete orthodoxy, whether that might be a religious fervour or moral panic, irreverent comedy is essential to the continuation of civilized society. Bluntly, political correctness is dangerous and evil.
It separates and balkanizes and segregates. What is far more powerful and uniting is to expect everyone to be able to laugh at their own foibles. Because, yes, we all have them.
Like starting a sentence with a preposition.

Well as often happens in these types of observations, Cleese is conflating Christianity with the Catholic Church. Jesus was anti-religion and was not a Catholic. His message still stands the test of time.
    The Vatican not so much.
But overall I enjoyed Cleese's comments.

Can't afford to buy in London? Leave London. Whinging about it won't change anything. Human capital is what makes civilization, geography helps but it isn't the only factor. You need to choose either to be a serf where you think you want to be or a citizen where you can be.

    • @KL0098
      @KL0098 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

How about being a citizen where you want to be a citizen, in this case London? If you don't want to live in London, you go elsewhere. And if you can't live on a 40-hour-week job, get a second one, a third one, you work 100 hours for peanuts, if that's all you want from your miserable live. Let those who want to work 40 hours a week and live in a London bustling with life instead of deserted streets take action. Or are they getting in your way?

Glad he mentioned The Beattitudes and Jesus but his lukewarm attitude seems to show he's lacking in knowledge of truth who is Via Veritas Vita JESUS of Nazareth.
