a grilse is a fish that has only had one sea winter after migrating to salt from a smolt, and nothing to do with length. they can wiegh anywhere from 2-10lbs although usually around 4-6lbs. also a good tip is when a salmon leaps is to lower your rod tip to avoid it either throwing the hook or breaking your leader..

Most man are living in the wrong parts of the world to get to fish for salmon.I am over 40 and only once had the opportunity to fish a week in a salmon river.Unfortunatly,that year was the worst salmon run ever(in Norway,in that river) cost me 2000 euro also,to get there and everything.
Getting a salmon to rise to a dry fly just doesn't happen all the time and then for her to make one cast and have a salmon eat the fly and she is not paying any attention. I'm glad she missed the take.
Typical woman...squawking away till she gets attention...then missing a salmon cos she's looking round...she'd be better off letting him fish and catch something, and she just waits in the kitchen to cook it! Know your place, woman!

Atlantic salmon or Pacific salmon like kings and cohes that are much easier to catch?
