As an advice, to defeat the cartagineses, don't fight them on the ground, once you take Siracusa build a fleet and hunt down their transports, they are easy prey and are often alone, so, you can just destroy their armies pretty easily. I'm bad at naval fights, and even then I was able to defeat them by only attacking their transports and avoiding their actual fleets.
