For me it's the idea of constantly chasing that perfectly timed shift. I already do this with clutchwork on a normal manual. Always judging each shift trying to make everything as perfect as possible. Makes me almost forget about the world and just focus on every little move I'm making. Totally what it's all about
Definitely wouldn’t be able the daily drive that , looks fun learning how to drive it , like learning manual all over again when we were 16 with dad next to you lol
Awesome man, good choice. I've got a trust 6 speed dog box for the group A build sat on the shelf. Much more period correct for an R32. I think a sequential saps personality. Remember you can also left foot brake and blip through the gears with your right ;) Some serious excitement on your face lol, great vid.
I almost had an opportunity to grab one of the trust boxes but the time wasnt right for me haha. Yea left foot braking popped into my head.. but i was clearly overly excited and was just happy to soak up as much knowledge as i could in the limited time i knew i had.
13:48 old mate was not having a bar of it when you used the clutch to change gears. I wouldn’t either, it’s not your car so can’t fathom why you would do that just so you can feel the difference lmao. Would’ve loved to see how he reacted off camera had this happened.
Try explaining a dog box to all the Tesla nerds out there. Let alone the giddiness of enjoying what fun it is to be at one with your car. Teetering on the edge of traction at all times while managing engine revs and when to shift at the optimal time. At some point real cars will become extinct like the dinosaurs but enjoy this time and enjoy these cars.
How's it goin', Cardo? Check that smile... You're definitely hooked on the dawg box now. I know you had already made up your mind, but that drive sealed the deal.👊 You did great, man. Huge Shoutout to Dave for trusting and allowing you to give it a go in his badass car. I haven't had the privilege of driving anything with a dogbox yet, but it looks fun. I'm always up for a challenge. I know it isn't the same, but I drive my ol' truck without using the clutch sometimes. Very similar. It's a feel and it takes practice, but when you nail it, it feels just as smooth as using the clutch. Upshifts come a little easier (especially the 3-4) as the revs fall for the next gear anyway and the downshifts are basically a throttle blip rev-matching for a smooth engagement. I guarantee it's hard to remember to leave that clutch alone unless you're coming to a stop, but once you do it for a few weeks, like everything else, it'll become second nature. Even more excited for this build now, Cardo.🙌 This thing is going to be an absolute animal! Have a great day, brother. See ya back in the cave.👍
I have am getting my gtr box built by par. Hais strongly insisted for me to go with a synchromesh and told me it’s just as a capable as a dogbox when it comes to launching and big hp and he said it’s so much more comfortable to drive. He persuaded me towards the synchro and I’m pretty happy he did. I’ll give an update on this comment and let you know my thoughts on it when I get it back :)
Great vid. YUP,,I will change my T56 into a dog box. 1st to 4th. . I'll say this, you are able to up shift most cars with no clutch and down shift with no clutch if you can feel and hear the motor. So a dog box will be a lot more fun. Peace.
Nice, you picked it up right away! Sometimes I'd pop my friend's cars out of gear while they weren't looking when there was no load, that's always a fun prank. Never thought it'd be useful! How much is the dogbox compared to the $18k-ish (USD) sequentials?
I'm with you man, if the money was close in price, I reckon you'd be better to bite the bullet and go sequential. Eliminate that whole "money shift" issue. Let's face it, the ability to drop neutral from any gear, isn't that much of a sacrifice
I have the same setup on order and this video has me excited. I used to run liberty gears faceplated gears and they recommended using the clutch. You haven't noticed any extra wear by clutches shifting?
The dogs are made to be shifted without the clutch, by rev matching your doing less damage than a clutch would because the more the gears slow the harder the hit during engaging. Rev matching and shifting under a little bit of load causes less damage. Terrible explanation but if you look up PPG on TH-cam they explain it out pretty good
mate im brand new to the channel ur accent sounds strayan and yall said some about bathurst and imma assume yall live in Australia, anyways you daily that? like is it legal or like you pulling a sneaky on the law?
4th gear is a 1:1 ratio meaning it has no gear reduction, it's power is straight from the engine to the final drive. In other cases some might change gears to helical for road use.
Dog boxes dont whine, the straight cut gears interlocking is where the sound comes from. The reverse gear is almost every car is a straight cut gear, which is why you get the whine in reverse in a normal car as well. As for the why, i think its due to sound frequency and vibration.. but im not 100% sure as to why we hear a sound when the gears teeth pass each other
Maybe a dumb question but when you start to slow down more quickly from high speeds do you then use the clutch or just go to neutral and apply brakes🤔 Thanks to whoever knows!
If you’re ready to downshift through the gears you can, or else you can just put it in neutral and use the brakes. The better option would be to use the engine to assist slowing you down with the brakes.
Coasting in Neutral is a huge No no in neutral you have zero control in any vehicle , always need to be in a gear while driving. I drive a dog box daily it’s no problem, slow you can always double clutch up and down , still need to blip the throttle to downshift It’s like a driving a fancy 18 wheeler , 18 wheeler after 1st gear you don’t need the clutch either no synchros just need to learn to load and unload correctly and match engine speed with revs and such you can drive it normal everywhere and when you beat on it, it can handle it.

Always judging each shift trying to make everything as perfect as possible. Makes me almost forget about the world and just focus on every little move I'm making. Totally what it's all about
It’s a good thing to do because almost everyone I know thinks it about flooring it and shifting fast when really it’s about that smooth transition
Definitely wouldn’t be able the daily drive that , looks fun learning how to drive it , like learning manual all over again when we were 16 with dad next to you lol
Sometimes I don't use clutch to pretend I'm driving a dog box 😂.
How does that end up for you lol
14:39 - Is that Hotwheels your mate is holding in his hands?! yo that's sick as haha
Awwwwww yeaaaaah, more Cardo content!

Great video owners face on bad shifts is priceless lol
Real down to earth informative video Cardo, and thanks to Dave.
The intro made me cry, beautiful car😍

big up to any of the weebs who know its ikaros from Sora no Otoshimono.
Love the fanboi face on Cardo the whole way through this video.
I was loving it lol. Has me so pumped to get mine going.

The only GTR content worth watching!
Straigh-cut make a great sound gut to hear.
Very cool transmission and lesson, looks like a buncha fun
13:36 hahaha both dudes out the window staring at the 32
Who wouldn't be lol
I have a Hollinger 6 speed sequential dog box, took me a minute.
LOVE IT! for us nubs, pls offer a down shifting video.
Sounds great, and will sound even better in your GTR 😉
phew that sound at 15:31 is soooo mwah
This is exactly what I needed to see, thank you!!
Cool Nismo Washing Machine you got there
Dave's GTS-T is so cool!
I have been saving up for a PAR syncro set. This just motivated me to save a bit longer
Ive been looking at them too!
@@slow26gtr Hey Mr Hoe. You have a similar set up to me. Built 2.6 6466. What size rear housing you using?
@@david32gtr87 hey mate! Open Vband .82, I think it works a treat - what about yourself? Theyre a weapon of a turbo for the street!

@@TwoOneNineOh its no where near as fast to shift though.. I have an OS Giken synchro gearset and its at the point where it's clearly holding me back
Oh God, im in love whit the dogboxes now 🔥🔥
Also, you can start to use the brake only with the left foot, while also doing rev match downshifts. You couldnt do both with a sequential.
I love that sound😍
Oh my god thats amazing

I wouldn’t be able to no clutch it lol. Brain would be like NOPE.
Great video. ☺️
fun fact, you can do it in a helical gearbox, but it's harder and grinds easier, I do it always from 2 to 3 in my lancia musa lol
You can definitely do the same with a syncro box, but once you have some power syncros and High RPM don’t really “mesh”. Forgive the bad pun
Why do they grind easier? They should be constant mesh

hey cardo i have a question - what if you are rolling in neutral and you want to get back into a gear?just blip and back into a gear?
mate im brand new to the channel ur accent sounds strayan and yall said some about bathurst and imma assume yall live in Australia, anyways you daily that? like is it legal or like you pulling a sneaky on the law?
arent you supposed to be direct into gear while downshifting??
Love this car!!
haha that was rad man!
dang i like straight cut gears
How does the gearing difference feel? I'm worried the long first gear will be annoying in traffic and parking garages.
You can get them with different gear sizes
do you have the option to shift with the clutch if you want to?
🤣🤣🤣
That looks tricky to say the least!
if you've driven a bike or old manual truck it's easier
Thumbs Up!👍🏻👍🏻🤘🏼💪🏽💪🏽😎
I wouldn't be able stand the sound 😅
Wow is so speed
Can someone explain to me how 4th gear is quiet?
4th gear is a 1:1 ratio meaning it has no gear reduction, it's power is straight from the engine to the final drive. In other cases some might change gears to helical for road use.
Why and how does the dog box whine? I’ve been curious but never done deeper research
Dog boxes dont whine, the straight cut gears interlocking is where the sound comes from. Do you have hicas on your R32 or deleted?
Sounds like only some of those gears are straight cut. What box is it ?
4th gear is 1:1 ratio, so it doesn’t make as much noise.
Maybe a dumb question but when you start to slow down more quickly from high speeds do you then use the clutch or just go to neutral and apply brakes🤔
