@Young Boss TV But why would you want that ? They don't make an inverter like that , and I'm guessing its because there's really no sensible reason to do so. But If you really want two battery banks , You could simply buy a Blue sea e-series battery switch ! That will give you the option to switch from battery bank 1 or bank 2 , And you can even switch to battery bank 1 and bank 2 at the same time . I have these switches in my system , But not for that configuration . There a heavy duty switch , and there $60 bucks a piece ! Hope this helps.

It's great that Mr. Prowse reviewed this unit. I have been keeping my eye out for a unit in this price point range. But, I would never buy it because of the phone app. I recently got a cooking thermometer which had an app that required an account, permissions to everything on my phone and my location. I know this is the direction many manufacturers are going but I will never buy another item which requires an app that needs intrusive access to my phone, location, and home network.

Allah, there is no god but He, the Living, the Eternal. There is nothing like Him. He is the Hearing, the Seeing.
      1. In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful.
      2. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds.
      3. The Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
      4. Master of the Day of Judgment.
      5. It is You we worship, and upon You we call for help.
      6. Guide us to the straight path.
      7. The path of those You have blessed, not of those against whom there is anger, nor of those who are misguided.
In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful.
      1. Alif, Lam, Meem.
      2. Allah, there is no god but He, the Living, the Eternal.
      3. He sent down to you the Book with the Truth, confirming what came before it; and He sent down the Torah and the Gospel.
      4. Aforetime, as guidance for mankind; and He sent down the Criterion. Those who have rejected Allah’s signs will have a severe punishment. Allah is Mighty, Able to take revenge.
      5. Nothing is hidden from Allah, on earth or in the heaven.
      6. It is He who forms you in the wombs as He wills. There is no god except He, the Almighty, the Wise.
In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful.
      1. Say, “He is Allah, the One.
      2. Allah, the Absolute.
      3. He begets not, nor was He begotten.
      4. And there is none comparable to Him.”
      28. It is He who sent His Messenger with the guidance and the religion of truth, to make it prevail over all religions. Allah suffices as Witness.
      29. Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. Those with him are stern against the disbelievers, yet compassionate amongst themselves. You see them kneeling, prostrating, seeking blessings from Allah and approval. Their marks are on their faces from the effects of prostration. Such is their description in the Torah, and their description in the Gospel: like a plant that sprouts, becomes strong, grows thick, and rests on its stem, impressing the farmers. Through them He enrages the disbelievers. Allah has promised those among them who believe and do good deeds forgiveness and a great reward.
In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful.
      1. Abundance distracts you.
      2. Until you visit the graveyards.
      3. Indeed, you will know.
      4. Certainly, you will know.
      5. If you knew with knowledge of certainty.
      6. You would see the Inferno.
      7. Then you will see it with the eye of certainty.
      8. Then, on that Day, you will be questioned about the Bliss.
      28. How can you deny Allah, when you were dead and He gave you life, then He will put you to death, then He will bring you to life, then to Him you will be returned?
      29. It is He who created for you everything on earth, then turned to the heaven, and made them seven heavens. And He is aware of all things.
      30. When your Lord said to the angels, “I am placing a successor on earth.” They said, “Will You place in it someone who will cause corruption in it and shed blood, while we declare Your praises and sanctify You?” He said, “I know what you do not know.”
      31. And He taught Adam the names, all of them; then he presented them to the angels, and said, “Tell Me the names of these, if you are sincere.”
      32. They said, “Glory be to You! We have no knowledge except what You have taught us. It is you who are the Knowledgeable, the Wise.”
      33. He said, “O Adam, tell them their names.” And when he told them their names, He said, “Did I not tell you that I know the secrets of the heavens and the earth, and that I know what you reveal and what you conceal?”
      34. And We said to the angels, “Bow down to Adam.” They bowed down, except for Satan. He refused, was arrogant, and was one of the disbelievers.
      35. We said, “O Adam, inhabit the Garden, you and your spouse, and eat from it freely as you please, but do not approach this tree, lest you become wrongdoers.”
      36. But Satan caused them to slip from it, and caused them to depart the state they were in. We said, “Go down, some of you enemies of one another. And you will have residence on earth, and enjoyment for a while.”
      37. Then Adam received words from his Lord, so He relented towards him. He is the Relenting, the Merciful.
      38. We said, “Go down from it, all of you. Yet whenever guidance comes to you from Me, then whoever follows My guidance-they have nothing to fear, nor shall they grieve.
      39. But as for those who disbelieve and reject Our signs-these are the inmates of the Fire-wherein they will remain forever.”
      40. O Children of Israel! Remember My blessings which I bestowed upon you, and fulfill your pledge to Me, and I will fulfill My pledge to you, and fear Me.
      41. And believe in what I revealed, confirming what is with you; and do not be the first to deny it; and do not exchange My revelations for a small price; and be conscious of Me.
      42. And do not mix truth with falsehood, and do not conceal the truth while you know.
      43. And attend to your prayers, and practice regular charity, and kneel with those who kneel.
      46. And before that, the people of Noah. They were immoral people.
      47. We constructed the universe with power, and We are expanding it.
      48. And the earth-We spread it out-How well We prepared it!
      49. We created all things in pairs, so that you may reflect and ponder.
      50. “So flee towards Allah. I am to you from Him a clear warner.”
      51. “And do not set up any other god with Allah. I am to you from Him a clear warner.”
      52. Likewise, no messenger came to those before them, but they said, “A sorcerer or a madman.”
      53. Did they recommend it to one another? In fact, they are rebellious people.
      54. So turn away from them; you are not to blame.
      55. And remind, for the reminder benefits the believers.
      56. I did not create the jinn and the humans except to worship Me.
      57. I need no livelihood from them, nor do I need them to feed Me.
      58. Allah is the Provider, the One with Power, the Strong.
      59. Those who do wrong will have their turn, like the turn of their counterparts, so let them not rush Me.
      60. So woe to those who disbelieve because of that Day of theirs which they are promised.
      35. Or were they created out of nothing? Or are they the creators?
      36. Or did they create the heavens and the earth? In fact, they are not certain.

Will Prowse hits it out of the ballpark as usual!
I started my solar adventures as a know nothing.....
Thanks to will, I installed my modest solar system myself complete with shunt and monitor. 600w on the roof and 2 strings of 200w each on the ground in the form of easy-to-stow (caution) flexible (freestanding frame) panels. These are deployed only on extremely coudy consecutive days. All charging 3-100ah l-ions.
We are in our RV for ten months a year for the last ten years. Our batts rarely drop below 80%. We want for nothing. Ice maker, micro, 4-5 hours of tv, etc. No AC however.....
We adjust for temperature by location. Been in AZ all winter. Love life! Heading to Oregon (Mt Hood area)for the summer. Our home is in St George Utah.
    Thanks Will!

That is amazing! Thank you Will for all you do. I am getting ready to purchase all my parts. I calculated that I will need a 7.5kWh System because it is a 750sf house and I NEED to run a mini-split. I figured that I would need 5 -300W panels. I followed your link and it looks like I would need two EG4 units and now it looks like the two EG4-All in one will work. Overall, I believe the little house should be okay with 5kWh but I wanted to plan for rainy days in SoCal. I would appreciate yours or any other subscriber's comments. Thanks again!

      48. And the earth-We spread it out-How well We prepared it!

Until a specific video of that configuration gets posted, and how to get both 120v and 240v out of that system is explained, I personally would not attempt to DIY it. But yes, for the cost of an additional unit, I'd go for it if feasible to DIY. Or would also perhaps hire a pro to insure safety. Not sure if a regular residential electrician would know the particulars of such an install. Maybe need a solar specialist. Main point is, size, reliability, cost are becoming attainable for many, which is exciting.

I was thinking of going with those $500 24v 2.56Kwh pre-assembled battery packs that they sell (which you featured in one of your previous videos,) but these server rack batteries really are handy. They are more expensive than the aforementioned packs, but not by a ton. 10Kwh from 2 of these server rack batteries would be $3000 + tax. You can get 10Kwh from 4 of the DIY batteries that they sell, for a total of $2000 + tax. But, you have to add a $100 BMS to each one, so that's another $400 right there. Plus, you have to add a circuit breaker to each one, and some wiring. You will also not have the capability for the units to communicate with each other, which is nice.

Of course more documentation keeps tech writers employed, so I have some bias on this subject. :)

      @livingitup9647 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

Personally, I think we need technical writers MORE than EVER... because technology is NOT getting simpler or more user-friendly. Instead, it's sucking up more of our limited time trying to make it all work, and often being forced to try and figure it out on our own, often without adequate documentation to help with troubleshooting. Now, if only the manufacturers would take some responsibility for increasingly and blithely foisting their technical glitches onto the poor consumers of their products -- and at the very least, provide more and better documentation with their products -- then technical writers would be in even greater demand. IMHO 😒

    • @crazyfvck
      @crazyfvck 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

@J Bennett My personal preference will always be paper manuals :) It's so much nicer to have a folder/clipboard mounted to something, and have full size sheets to look at. In the case of a permanent installation, like a large battery bank, you can also laminate them, to make them last longer. Nothing worse than scrolling through pages on your phone, looking at a tiny screen. It's even more frustrating, when you are working on a car, and your hands are covered in grease. You either have to keep cleaning them over and over, or you have to wear and waste a lot of disposable gloves. When it comes to paper manuals, I don't care about getting grease on the individual pages, so long as it doesn't obscure the text and pictures.

As always, nice review and checkout Will. Seems like a good low cost inverter (or even battery charger) for the price. Huge fail on the neutral / ground bond for connecting 2 of these in series for split phase 120/240V. Like Signature Solar's prior 'US' Growatt, they need to fix this. Unsafe as supplied if connected in series, and with no grounding hookup in the documentation, an extra additional fail.

FYI, I have that Growatt and the wifi dongle / app is worse than this EG4 from what I can tell in this video.
Also, an interesting parameter that many don't talk about is the solar input voltage cuttoff. The charger will turn off after a while if there is no light, which saves about 30W (50%) of the total idle consumption. But there is no way to adjust the cuttoff and I have found that even parking under a street light will cause the charger to remain on throughout the night, therefore wasting ~300Wh throughout the night. I am fixing this by adding additional hardware to cuttoff the solar input when the voltage is low. (please let me know if I'm missing something and if you'd recommend another way)

How is the growatt app worse? Please describe. Thanks!

    • @linkpatrick
      @linkpatrick 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@gtbrown001 TLDR: The growatt uses an app called ShinePhone that feels outsourced and distanced from the engineers that made the Growatt inverter.
First, I wrote that the dongle / app is worse. The experience I had setting it up was not good. Instruction was generally hard to find, especially for the PC app. Also, there's 2 wifi dongles to add to confusion. Second, the app changed a while back so that it is now ShinePhone, so I had to set things up again. Third, it requires constant internet access for data logging (which is probably the same for the EG4). Fourth, I can see that Will had so many options to monitor on the app, that is not the case the ShinePhone app.

Your comments about the idle wattage and the solar low voltage are amazing, I didn’t know that was a thing (cutting off the MPPT charger and saving idle consumption with low PV voltage).
Do you know of any other ways to minimize this idle consumption? The 1.2+ kWh per day might actually be the largest drain on my battery bank and I’d like to avoid addressing that by just buying more batteries.

    • @linkpatrick
      @linkpatrick 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

@@bmxican1023 Ya, I thought it was the right move to buy a large all-in-one like to this so that I could power anything, but the idle consumption ended up being a bigger deal than I anticipated. To make matters worse, I can't use the eco mode on the growatt because the wattage threshold to turn on (from eco-mode) is (I think) ~100W, and my fridge only pulls 90W (500W for about 0.5 seconds at startup. which makes an LED on the growatt come on, but then it turns off, lol.)
So what I've done is I bought a smaller 500W inverter to run my AC fridge and other small AC loads, and I keep the Growatt output toggled off unless I'm gonna cook etc (which, in combination with the solar input toggle, makes the idle consumption at night 0W). Since the 500W inverter is smaller, I can run it on eco mode, so it consumes 2W while idle (and, bonus, it's DC-AC efficiency is better for running my fridge).

If you can get ahold of a used forklift battery for cheap, they are an excellent choice for home power storage.
Lead acid is different though. It wants to be fully charged. You need to have enough solar power to keep it at 54v during the day, and for equalising charge at 57v now and then. If you leave it at a low state of charge, it will sulfate and degrade, then eventually die.

Of course, as a mariner,, it's light and small enough to carry a spare backup unit.

This inverter has 94% efficiency, so it will use 180 watts for its operation at full load continuously, and according to this video, the inverter uses 60 watts in standby, therefore one needs to keep the inverter efficiency in mind when designing a system. I am trying to say that you will have even more loses with more load, up to 180 watts (full load 3000watts ÷ 100 x 94%) because of the inverter itself. Ps. 94% efficiency is good.

The website says it's an offgrid inverter but on the app on your phone it showed it as a hybrid inverter. It would be nice to use 2 of these as a hybrid inverter backup in the house capable of feeding energy to the grid.
Edit: I called support and it says it has a passthrough for grid power but is not hybrid so doesn't do sell back. It will keep you powered when the grid goes down though so it doesn't behave like a grid-tie which is nice. Where I live you can have non UL listed inverters as long as there is a visible cutoff switch which is easy to do.

This unit uses the grid voltage (as input) to charge batteries or even feed loads, like a UPS. A grid-tie needs to synchronize its AC output to grid before connecting to the grid and selling back (or really bad things electrically would happen, lol).

Because heat rises, I think it would make more sense to have the cool air intake at the bottom and exhaust fans on top.

They keep making these all-in-one units in 48 Volts only. Makes it really hard for people with Campers and Rvs to use. That’s one thing I would like to have, but instead I have to have different parts for an inverter, a charger, and MPPT. Would be great to have a 12 Volt model.

Just need to add a converter between eg4 and your 12v battery or switch to a 48v lifepo battery and put the converter between your battery and the 12v fuse block. Converter costs between $15 and $60 depending on your amp requirements.

Great and useul review Will. My old Iconica Hybrid 5.5 PV Inverter gave-up the ghost on the DC side and a short was created, back in February and was only running on solar and grid no battery . So I replaced it with 2 x Growatt SPF 5000 ES and since they've been running with plenty of sun recently I've been able to make the comparison. I have to say the Growatt Inverters are inferior. My old Iconica Inverter tracked the grids frequency, which here in the UK over January was going up and down from 30Hz to 50z. The Iconia was able to match the frequency so allowing a smooth transition from battery to grid and back again every time without any interruption to the load, unlike the Growatt which has to purse to switch the load from battery to grid. However the Iconica did seem to leak voltage onto the ground as much as 2000v but only in milliamps, not sure if this was the precursor to the DC failure though. Plus the Iconica could charge my battery using an hour and minutes timer, whereas the Growatt only does this in hours no minutes. Our window to get cheap grid energy here in the UK is from 12:30 to 4:30 so we've lost an hour due to is timer they use.

I'm never buying one All-in-one system again, after getting one broken at night at the start of my holidays in my weekend house. I prefer individual systems, you can have better redundacy. They also spent way more energy at rest.

I am curious if the GRID connection can be utilized to do this? The Turbine would be input and if any output it should go to the Resistor to bleed-off the excess electricity generation - any ideas ?

How much RF interference does it generate? Especially on HF frequencies. I wish you could take 15 seconds and place an AM radio close to the unit when it is working and let everyone hear it.

I'm convinced that there is not an inverter made that allows AM or shortwave unless your radio is at least 100 feet away from the inverter and the house wiring. And forget filtering, it doesn't work. Been there, done that.
